fan of the month

We have reached the last month in the Year of the Reader!

I hope you have enjoyed this feature.

I am excited to introduce of December’s Fan of the Month!

Sue

Sue

Tell us a little bit about yourself –

I retired from being an accountant a little over a year ago and have been devouring mysteries since then.  I also enjoy keeping up with friends on facebook.  During the summer I’m an avid golfer, not necessarily a good golfer, so I spend a lot of time outdoors and get behind on my reading.  My husband and I have 4 fur kids—2 beagles and 2 cats—who are the joy of our life.  I love curling up in my big chair-and-a-half with a couple of my “kids” reading all afternoon in the winter.

I particularly like cozies with animals.  I got hooked on cozies years ago when I discovered The Cat Who… series by Lillian Jackson Braun and would eagerly await each new book as it was released.  I’d love to meet Jim Quilleran of that series—he seemed like he could just jump off the pages of the book.   I so miss her writing now that she has passed.  Probably my favorite series now is the Joe Grey series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy.

I’ve been reading your bog for quite a while—-I’m not certain how long, but at least 3 years—probably longer.  I enjoy finding out what new cozies are coming out and discovering authors that you write about that are new to me.  An of course, I enjoy the contests—there’s nothing like receiving a new, free cozy in the mail.

Thanks again for choosing me as your December fan.

Thank you Sue for being December’s Fan of the Month!

Sue will be received a $5 Amazon Gift Card and a copy of To Brew or Not To Brew by Joyce Tremel.

So sorry this post is appearing a day late. I searched and search for it this morning only to find I had it scheduled to post 11/1/2016!

fan of the month

We have reached the 11th month in the Year of the Reader!

If you are a fan of my blog I know you are a READER!

So this year I will be randomly choosing a

Fan of the Month!

Not only will this help me get to know you better but it will help the readers get to know each other better. You may find someone that likes the same authors, books, genres you do. You may “meet” someone that enjoys the same hobbies or is in a similar line of work. They may be someone you want to follow on Social Media.

I am excited to introduce of November’s Fan of the Month!

Sherry

Tell us a little bit about yourself –

I am retired, so it would seem I have lots of time for the reading and photography I love so much. Well…it is never enough. I would like to be an immortal being, requiring no sleep or sustenance, so I have even more time for my favorite hobbies. I thrive on water and sun, and sometimes wonder if I was a mermaid in a former life. I am always looking outward, whether it is for the next book or the next photograph.

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape into a Good Book?

I spend most of my reading time in my lounger. I have everything I need within arm’s reach, whether it is a notepad, my beverage of choice or a snack. I also love to read on the patio, but in the summer it can be quite hot here in Florida and I do not want to short out my Kindle with perspiration.

Do you have a favorite author, book or series?

I find it hard to mention just one author, one book, or one series. I read a lot of books in a lot of genres and each is special in its own right.

What fictional character do you wish was real so you could meet them in person?

Hmmm, now this is an impossible question for me to answer. As I rack my brain, trying to choose just one, many are jumping up and saying pick me.

How long have you been a Fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book?

I cannot remember when I signed up to follow your wonderful blog, reading your reviews and sharing some of the tours you offer. My sister, Laura at fuonlyknew, introduced me to you and blogging, and I have never looked back.

What is your favorite part of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book’s blog?

My favorite part of the Dollycas blog would have to be YOU. Without the work you do to bring us a steady supply of great reading material, there are many authors we would never have found to love, read and follow.

Is there anything else you would like us to share?

I have been blogging since 2012 and have found so many wonderful indie authors. Who would have thought that our cyber community would help to change the publishing world, giving indie authors the opportunity to share their books that would have never been published otherwise. I would like to thank Dollycas for being a big part of it.

Thank you for the sweet words Sherry!!
Thank you for being November’s Fan of the Month!

Be sure to check out Sherry’s blog  fundinmental!!

Fans of the Month receive a $5 Amazon Gift Card and a copy of a book released during their month Robin will be receiving Trimmed for Murder by Sally Golenbaum!

Nadine

Tell us a little bit about yourself – I’m a relatively new member following your blog joining because I want to be aware of the work done by independent authors as I am a beta/proofreader for several aspiring authors.

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape into a Good Book? I read voraciously and broadly having three or more books being read as one, usually nonfiction. I have one in the car to read when a passenger or waiting somewhere; one by my bedside is my escapism reading; the third is usually a young adult title read in the down time when volunteering for desk duty at my local library.

Do you have a favorite author, book or series? I am a member of three reading groups: bestsellers, classics, and a nonfiction group dealing with ecological, world and multicultural topics. It’s impossible for me name any favorites of characters or books unless you want l-o-n-g lists. Because I taught at the high school level, I was constantly recommending titles and topics to students. When they’d ask me “my favorite” I’d say it’s what I’ve chosen to read right now and I’d constantly mention what I was reading outside of the class readings and encourage them to share as well.

Is there anything else you would like us to share? The most rewarding gifts I’ve gotten is from former students, years later, saying I fostered their love of reading and they in turn passed it on to their children.

~Nadine

~~Thank you Nadine for being October’s Fan of the Month!

This is the 9th month in the Year of the Reader!

Fan of the Month!

Not only will this help me get to know you better but it will help the readers get to know each other better. You may find someone that likes the same authors, books, genres you do. I am excited to introduce of September’s Fan of the Month!

ROBIN

Robin and her favorite author

This is a picture of myself with one of my favorite writers, Amanda Flower aka Isabella Allen. I’m the one in the pink top.

Tell us a little bit about yourself – I am semi-retired church secretary due to health issues. My family consists of my husband, Roy, for the last 30 years as of August 24th, my two children, Rachel Leigh, 28 and my son, Rhett Lyndon, 27. As stated before prior to retiring, I was a church secretary and secretary to the Pastor. My son is Autistic and my daughter struggles with a learning disability. Being a hands on mom, I have learned a lot about dealing with both. Our family also consists of two cats. My cat, Romeo Luigi, who is all black with some Siamese traits. My daughter’s cat, Ralphie Lee is an orange tabby with Maine Coon mix. Of course this is my grand-furbaby.

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape into a Good Book? When I am ready to curl up with a good book and a sweet peach tea, I am usually in my husband’s recliner when he isn’t home. The mystery bug hit me when I was introduced to Lillian Jackson Braun‘s The Cat Who series.

Do you have a favorite author, book or series? As you see by the picture Amanda Flower aka Isabella Allen is one of my favorite authors. Her series about the Amish Quilt Shop as well as her Appleseed Creek series are both wonderful. Another favorite is Joyce and Jim Lavene. Their cozy mystery series are many and each one is even better than the last. Cozy mysteries as well as cookbooks hold my fascination and my heart. Kathi Daley, Dianne Harmann, Joanne Fluke, Diane Mott Davidson and many other have all filled my interests.

How long have you been a Fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book? I have followed Escape with Dollycas for at least 2-3 years. I enjoy your introduction of various author’s and then also the book reviews. There are so many new authors and books published each month and through the service you offer it is nice to be able to get a heads up and determine the ones I might be interested in.

Is there anything else you would like us to share?
I am also an amateur jewelry maker and love to try new recipes.

Once thing I would like to get across to fellow readers is if you enjoy an author and their books, do them a great service by leaving a review. Through reviews others may choose to read their books.

~Robin

~~Thank you Robin for being September’s Fan of the Month!

Fans of the Month receive a $5 Amazon Gift Card and a copy of a book released during their month Robin will be receiving Basket Case by Nancy Hoddock!

This is the 8th month in the Year of the Reader!

If you are a fan of my blog I know you are a READER!

Fan of the Month!

I am excited to introduce of August’s Fan of the Month!

Amanda

Tell us a little bit about yourself – I am the Assistant Director of Nursing and Quality Assurance Coordinator at a long term/Rehab/assisted living facility. I have been a registered nurse for 21 years and at my present job for the past 16 years. I am happily married and have a 14 year old son. I love animals and live on a farm. I love gardening, flowers, books, music from the 1920’s through the 1970’s, spending time with my family, painting and, did I mention reading. I love cozy mysteries but I will read anything- mystery, suspense, YA, romance, thriller, paranormal, fantasy, science fiction, Christian, etc.

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape into a Good Book? My absolute favorite place to read (when the weather is nice) is sitting by the creek under the shade free-kick if the weather doesn’t cooperate, I’ll sit in my “reading room” in my grandmother’s favorite chair.

Do you have a favorite author, book or series?
My favorite book is “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee- while in elementary school, we were required to read it as part of my gifted English class and it taught me a lot about myself, my beliefs, and my own family.
My favorite series are: The Coffeehouse Mystery Series by Cleo Coyle, The Meg Langslow Mystery Series by Donna Andrews, Hannah Swenson Series by Joanne Fluke, and The Novel Idea Series by Lucy Arlington.

What fictional character do you wish was real so you could meet them in person? If I had to pick a favorite fictional character that I would love to meet, it would have to Hannah Swenson from Joanne Fluke’s series- I fell in love with this series years ago and have all of the books in the series thus far (paperbacks or hardback, not e-books).

How long have you been a Fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book? I have been a fan of the Escape with Dollycas blog since I stumbled upon it 3-4 years ago and have been following by email ever since. My favorite part of the blog would have to be the introduction to new cozy mystery series as well as the wonderful reviews. I will often seek out the books in a new series (new to me at least) based on the review posted on the Escape with Dollycas blog.

Thank you Amanda for being August’s Fan of the Month!

BROOKE

Brooke

Tell us a little bit about yourself –I am a 31 year old mom of 2 girls and I live in Ohio. I live in the same little town I grew up in – though I dream of moving to a beach town someday! I work as a library clerk – a dream job for a book lover! I have a blog at http://www.brookeblogs.com. When I’m not reading, I like spending time with my family and playing computer games.

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape into a Good Book? I love reading in bed before I go to sleep. It’s my favorite way to wind down.

Do you have a favorite author, book or series? I couldn’t possibly choose a favorite author, book or series! My favorite book that I’ve read recently is Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman. I borrowed it from the library and ended up buying my own copy because I love it so much.

What fictional character do you wish was real so you could meet them in person? I would love to meet Tuck from TJ O’Connor’s Gumshoe Ghost mysteries. He’s a ghost who was a homicide detective in life. I have read the two books currently out in the series and love Tuck and the series so much. Can’t wait for more!

How long have you been a Fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book? I started following Escape with Dollycas a few years ago, when I really discovered the cozy mystery genre! I had no idea there was a whole genre dedicated to fun mysteries and amateur sleuths, with no gore.

What is your favorite part of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book’s blog? I love that I get to learn about so many wonderful books and meet authors through your great posts. My TBR grows every day when I visit Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book.

Is there anything else you would like us to share? I would love for you to visit my blog. And visit your local libraries! You can borrow so much more than just physical books – ebooks, movies, audiobooks, CDs and more. There are always lots of free programs going on, too. Libraries need patrons to keep servicing their communities. 🙂

Thank you Brooke for being July’s Fan of the Month!

Joanne and Skittles

Joanne and Skittles

Tell us a little bit about yourself I am a first generation American, born to parents who immigrated from the Netherlands to Chicago where I was raised. My husband and I live in a suburb with 2 of our 3 young adult children who are vibrant and thriving despite being medically fragile and technology dependent (requiring round the clock care). Our family also includes 4 superbly trained service dogs. Professionally, I am a R.N. with Certification in Clinical Research. An injury resulting in disability abruptly ended a career I loved.

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape into a Good Book? Normally, that would be sitting in the recliner with Skittles at my side. Currently it is reclining in bed with Skittles at my side. I always have my Kindle or a book with me!

Do you have a favorite author, book or series? I have far too many ‘favorites’ to name one. I’ve been reading mysteries since childhood and cozies ever since. A number of those early series are no longer published. There are 15 to 20 authors that I can claim to be my favorites!

What fictional character do you wish was real so you could meet them in person? I would love to meet the “perfectly imperfect” Zoe Donavon. I can relate to her in all too many ways!

How long have you been a Fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book? I have been a fan of Escape with Dollycas after sustaining an injury which resulted in permanent disability in 2011. At that time I needed to discover more authors and books in the genre I appreciate.

What is your favorite part of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book’s blog? I love your blogs because we have similar tastes in books and your reviews have introduced me to new, now favorite, authors and books/series. Plus, it is always fun to win one of your giveaway contests.

Is there anything else you would like us to share? Life has been a struggle, ups and downs, nothing is in our control, not one little thing, it is a tough battle, one that has caused us to be tired and worn. At times our hearts are heavy and we struggle to breath in and out, other times we are good and at peace. Just being and being before God is really our only strength, we, as a family, covet the prayers of everyone. I try to not get mired down in the “woe is me” or “woe is us” dumps. This is the reality of the life I live – knowing that as hard as life is many days, as many things as I WANT to whine and complain about – I know at the end of the day, that the fact that we are all still HERE and still alive is the biggest blessing of all. This is not a lesson I take lightly. So we will get through this day, and the sun will rise again in the morning and things will look different. Maybe still hard, maybe a little better. But each day is new and always full of the opportunity for good things. Most of all I thank you, Lori, and the authors who so generously give of their time and talent to fill my days with hours of reading enjoyment and for hanging in there with me through this stage of the journey. The sun will come out tomorrow, right?

Thank you Joanne for being June’s Fan of the Month!!

A Little About Me:

I’m a CA native who grew up with my nose in a book. I’m an accountant by trade, but a fiction addict by night. If I’m not reading, I’m watching TV and movies. I also love ultimate Frisbee and mud runs.

My favorite place to curl up with a good book:

I will read anywhere and everywhere I can. The majority of my reading time happens on my lunch hour, and I read in the front seat of my car. Another favorite place is the recliner in my living room.

Favorite Author, Book, or Series:

I’ve got plenty of favorites. From childhood, I love the Trixie Belden series. I still love the Mrs. Pollifax series, a series which inspired my internet user name of Carstairs. I also love Sue Ann Jaffarian (who got me in to mud runs), Laura Levine, Donna Andrews, and Rhys Bowen among many, many others.

Fictional character becoming real:

For years, I’ve dreamed about meeting Trixie Belden and her friends. To this day, I would still love to find myself in Sleepyside.

How long have I been an EwDiaGB fan?

I found the blog a couple of years ago and immediately started following.

Favorite part of EwDiaGB?

I love the title because when you are reading a good book, it really is an escape. I also love the reviews, which have lead me to give second thought to several books I had dismissed. And I’ve found several authors I’ve enjoyed as a result of the reviews changing my mind.

Thank you Mark for being May’s Fan of the Month!!

Mark also has a blog you should all check out!

Carstairs Considers….

It is one of my favorite blogs to visit!

Mary

She seems to be spending her winter evenings the same way I do,
snuggled under blankets and escaping into a good book 🙂

Tell us a little bit about yourself –

I am retired from my job that I worked at for 35 years. I have always loved to read even as a child. I am married, have one standard poodle and live outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Enjoy going to the city library to walk through the aisles to browse for a book.

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape Into A Good Book?

My favorite place to read is the chair that I am sitting on in the photo. All bundled up in that photo on one of the coldest nights of this Winter.

Do you have a favorite author, book or series?

The genre of books I read most are drama, mystery, literary fiction, women’s fiction and psychological thrillers. My favorite series is the cozy mysteries Melanie Travis Series by Laurien Berenson.

I don’t have any favorite author or book there are too many to list that I love. Right now I’m reading The Husband’s Secret by Liane Moriarty. I’ll be checking out one her other four novels. It would be interesting to meet the character Cecilia in The Husband’s Secret to see how she manages day by day with the secret.

How long have you been a Fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book?

I have been a fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book for at least three years.

What is your favorite part of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book’s blog?

I have three parts of the blog that I like: of course the giveaways, if I see a book to enter in the contest, the book reviews and your It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? I look through to see if there are books to add to my Want to Read list in Goodreads.

Hang on Mary, Spring should be coming to Wisconsin soon and you and I can rejoice!

A copy of As Gouda As Dead is on its way to her.
As you can see she is a fan of Avery Aames!

Tell us a little bit about yourself –

I am a retired Human Resources Director, married for over 30 years, with one daughter. My 15 minutes of fame came in 1992 when after reading one particular horror novel, I contacted Dean Koontz through his publisher to advise him of a case of plagiarism on his book, Phantoms. He contacted me by mail shortly thereafter and followed through with an investigation that resulted in a successful lawsuit against the author. As a thank you, Mr. Koontz sent me personally signed books of each new release for about the next ten years.

That is so Cool!

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape Into A Good Book?

Favorite place to read is anyplace, anytime. I always carry a book or IPad with me in case I have a free minute to read.

Do you have a favorite author, book or series?

Dean Koontz and Stephen King are my favorite horror novelists but I am also addicted to cozy mysteries including all those written by the Cozy Chicks authors and those on Killer Characters.

How long have you been a Fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book?

I have been a fan of Escape with Dollycas since I retired from HR in 2011. I love her blogs because it helps me find new authors and series. And of course, it is always fun to win one of her giveaway contests.
