The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an informal week in review
gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Yesterday we attended my granddaughter’s 1st dance recital. I am so proud of that little girl. So many thoughts ran through my mind. My daughter’s (her aunts) many dance recitals and all those weekly dance lessons. My son not being there to witness his daughter at this wonderful event, although many told me he was watching from heaven. Thoughts even drifted back to when I attended high school in the building where the recital was held and the weekly dances we had with actual bands not D.J.’s way back in the day. I felt a roller coaster of emotions when all I was there for was to see this awesome little girl dance. My SMILE resolution continued but it was accompanied by a few tears.

I also shed a few tears earlier in the week when my youngest daughter moved Kris’s dresser that he had since he was a baby into her room. The dresser is an antique made by my grandfather back when my mother was a child. It was passed down to me when my grandmother moved in with us when I was a teenager. I stripped and refinished it, took it with me when I got married and then it became Kris’s. My daughter says she and her brother both loved clothes and had/have more than they knew what to do with. This is a dresser with much deeper drawers than you find today so it was perfect for them. She may refinish it herself someday and pass it along. All I know is that it made me miss him like crazy. Tears over a piece of furniture, it still amazes me how grief works right into normal every day things.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

My Little Smilers

My loves, my grandchildren were in the house this weekend. Remi and Natalie enjoyed the local Easter Egg Hunt. It lasted about 4 minutes for the kids to find about 5000 candy filled eggs. Kaden stayed home to watch a Star Wars movie with Mr. Dollycas. There is never a dull moment with these kids in the house. And they do amazing things for my Smile More resolution. They sure are cute little smilers.

Tried to have a quiet week and work on my Smile More resolution I made last week. My son would have turned 32 on Wednesday so I took some “me time” in the afternoon. My youngest daughter took me to get my haircut and do a bit of shopping. Then I came home and curled up with a book. I cut the work day short on Thursday and Friday too.

Then about 11 p.m. Friday night I saw that the movie SING was Free On Demand. My grandchildren had seen the movie in the theater and most of them gave it rave reviews. Remi is 4, he loved all the animals. Natalie is almost 5, “Nana, it is so funny. Kaden is 9, “it was funny but kinda stupid.” He’s more into the superhero movies these days 🙂

So I pressed “select”, put my book down, leaned back, relaxed and watched the movie. It was funny, I liked the animals, it had a good message and was not stupid. And it made me SMILE. I fell asleep with a smile on my face and some good memories of my son when he was the age of my grandchildren. We used to have many movie nights watching tapes on our old VCR. While as he grew older he was more into superheroes like Kaden, he would have liked the animals like Remi. No matter how old he would have thought it was funny. I had just a minute of despair as I thought he would have loved watching this movie with his daughter Natalie, but hopefully he was smiling down from heaven. If you need a little pick me up, this is the perfect movie to watch. I may have to buy the DVD.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

The calendar may say it is Spring but the temps are still pretty chilly here in Wisconsin. I can’t wait to see the flowers and trees showing us their springtime blooms. A time of renewal.

Spring has always been my favorite season but this year it is taking on a larger importance with me. My oldest son would have been 31 this year. His birthday is this coming Wednesday. I am going to take some time for myself on that day to try to spring myself forward from this overwhelming grief that has grabbed a hold on me again this month. That doesn’t mean I forget or that there won’t be some sad times. It just means I will try to smile instead of cry a little more often. Remember with more joy and less sorrow. A time of renewal for me. A huge step but I will do my best.

Smile – Happy Spring Everyone!

Happy Sunday Everyone!

When I think of anniversaries I think of happy celebrations. This past Wednesday marked 2 years since my son took his life. Not a happy celebration, so for me “anniversary” is just not the right word. Unlike last year I had decided months ago to just treat it like a normal day on my blog and for the book tours. I filled the day with work and commitments hoping that would push me through the day. Well, that was a mistake because it wasn’t a normal day, it wasn’t a normal week. My filling the week with work has left me feeling overwhelmed and behind in so many things. I had hoped to catch up this weekend but roadblocks just keep throwing themselves in my path.

First due to the weather we had several power and internet outages on Monday.

Then on Tuesday, when I tried to update tour pages on my blog the program had mind of its own and was opening earlier revisions with a many things missing. Confusing to explain, confusing to fix but I finally got the pages updated and the problem seems to have gone away.

Wednesday, the actual day I needed time for myself my email inbox was overflowing with things I needed to handle. To ignore them would have just put me further behind. Wednesday night I couldn’t sleep, that night from 2 years ago, the police at the door telling us our son was gone, just kept replaying itself in my mind and when I did get to sleep the nightmares had returned. When I finally got to sleep it was about 7 a.m. and then of course I didn’t get up on time, again, chasing my tail to get caught up.

Friday, no matter what I did I just couldn’t stay on task and soon it was 6 p.m. and I just had to stop.

Saturday, up early, ready to get caught up, my printer stopped working and Microsoft did some kind of update during the night and the restart took over an hour. I wanted to just do a manual shutdown and start over but the last time I had done that it caused more problems so I waited.

So no, not caught up, still behind. I am hoping today is better. This was just the computer side. I didn’t do hardly any reading this week and no time on the weekend for much reading because of all the time at the computer. Believe me, I have learned my lesson. Next year, I am not scheduling anything for this week.

Now I push forward until Kris’ birthday on March 29. Yes, I will be behind again then too.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I hope you had a great week. Mine was not the best. We did get a lot of the cleaning done I wanted last weekend so that was good but I woke up Monday will be left ear plugged and by the end of the day I knew it was the beginning of a head cold which has gotten progressively worse each day so that my Friday my voice was but a whisper. My voice is better but both ears are still plugged and I feel like @#$%. March is always going to be a hard month and this next week being the worst as it will be 2 years since we lost our son on Wednesday. We have a family dinner planned for that day so I hope I am feeling better.

One good thing did happen last week. I became a great aunt again for the 12th time. Miss Aubrey Kay made her way into the world Thursday. Weighing in at 6lbs 14oz, 19in long. Such a little cutie. Her big brothers look pretty excited. I can’t wait to meet her in person.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

It was a busy week and we had another nice snow storm but it is warm enough this weekend that the snow is quickly melting. The milder temps had me in the cleaning mood but I live with a bunch of procrastinators that just drives me nuts. Instead of putting things away, they stack things and say they will put them away later. They start things and do not finish. They say they are going to do something and then when reminded they say, “in a minute”, “later”, “maybe tomorrow”. For that reason some of the Christmas stuff has been put away in the totes but the totes haven’t been taken to the basement. Some stuff is still out because “it is still winter”. Other cleaning that could be done gets a “Spring Cleaning…it’s not Spring yet”. The stacks keep increasing and my patience is dwindling. These are some of the times my paralysis makes me want to scream. If I only had 2 good hands and 2 good legs I would be doing all this myself and trust me I try to do as much as I can. My granddaughter wanted to come this weekend but I asked her to wait a week because I was determined to get the housework done. Then yesterday my older daughter and the boys surprised us with a visit. While I was extremely happy to see them, you guessed it, I put them right to work too. Not the visit they expected but more hands make light work, right. 🙂

Happy Sunday Everyone!

We were treated to some awfully nice weather early last week, temps in the high 60’s but Old Man Winter reared his ugly head for the weekend with ice, cold and snow. It also was when my youngest son’s heat/defrost stopped working in “his” truck. That meant he and Mr. Dollycas were out in the cold trying to fix it. This was my oldest son’s truck and keeping it around and running is very important to us, especially for his brother. It has not been easy because it has had plenty of issues the past 2 years, brakes, fuses, tie rods, a window that won’t go up and down, some recalls we still need to take care of and now the heat.  Sometimes I think it is our oldest son sending signs we should give up on the thing. But seeing these guys and sometimes our nephew rally to keep this Tahoe running and bonding with each other brings us all just a little joy in a dark time. I hope Kris is watching down from heaven and sees us keeping his memory alive even with the darn truck.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

I had my Saturday pretty well planned out, sleep in, promote some book tour stops, write 2 blog posts, read, spend time with my granddaughter. Well, I did sleep in, but when I signed into my blog I found I had been hacked.

First there was a panic because when I had been hacked several years ago my blog was filled with racist posts and beyond x-rated pictures. This time it was just a black screen with loud music and big red letters saying you have been hacked with the hacker’s name.

Deep breaths…I quickly sent the company, Tiger Technology, that hosts my blog and email. I received an immediate response. They got to work and about 2 hours later my beautiful blog was restored.

They discovered the hack occurred last than 5 minutes before I tried to sign in, they quickly locked down the site and kept the hacker from doing further damage.

They also determined that while I had changed my email and blog passwords regularly I had not changed my server password in a very long time. You know it is a site you go to when you have a problem. It otherwise just runs in the background and is forgotten. The password I had was strong but the hacker got through. I have now added my server to the list of passwords that needs to be changed often. So I just want to remind all of your make changing passwords a priority.

Thankfully Tiger Tech and their staff are amazing. They have helped me through many little glitches over the years and now this huge one. And they did it within minutes, not days or hours. Years ago my blog was hosted by Google Blogger and I had to rebuild my site myself and it took days. I am not sure how they do it now, but back then it was other Blogger users that helped me get things back on track and helped me get rid of the most offensive material. I never heard back from anyone that worked for Google. The adage “you get what you pay for” is true. Blogger is free, Tiger Tech costs about $10 a month but I learned today they are worth every penny.
