Skye Sebring is a hospitality greeter inside the pearly gates of an unorthodox Heaven, where carefree and lusty angels get tipsy in the Live A Little Lounge, practice cloud art, and are guided by a brassy female deity who sounds and looks like Bette Midler. During the course of her duties, Skye meets lawyer Ryan Blaine, who has a brush with death due to a motorcycle accident.

It’s not Ryan’s time to die yet, so he returns back to Earth, but Skye can’t get him out of her mind. Why does Ryan seem so familiar to her and why does she feel an unexplainable attraction to him? She begins spying on Ryan’s life from her perch in heaven and even manages to follow him down to Earth. There she finds a world very different than Heaven, where drinking too much champagne results in hangovers, roses can prick fingers, and hearts are capable of being broken. All seems lost until she remembers that most of life’s lessons can be learned from the lyrics of five Beatles songs and one of the Fab Four’s songs might actually help win her the love of a lifetime.

Divinely Yours is a celestial romantic comedy about a love that crosses all dimensions.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Welcome to heaven! Skye Sebring is here to greet you to a heaven like you have probably never imagined. Where God looks like Bette Midler and her heaven seems more like Disney World than the great beyond. Skye has only been a greeter a short time. When one of her “clients” is pulled back to Earth because it wasn’t his time she just can’t forget him. “It happens” She has the ability to watch his movements down here and she feels remarkably drawn to him. I don’t want to say anymore because you have to read to book.

If you know me at all you know I lost my son to suicide in 2015 and heaven is on my mind every day. I had a little bit of trepidation about reading this story but by the end of chapter 1 I was all in. A romantic comedy that takes place in heaven and on Earth. I laughed, I cried, I got very upset at one character, and I was entirely entertained from start to finish. While heaven will always be a mystery to us still living,  if heaven could really be like this I would know my son is well taken care of and happy.

The premise is fun, the characters are perfect and the setting is divinely celestial. A story of love that knows no bounds. An imaginative tale you will easily escape right into.  Thank you Ms. Gillespie your story is a delightful read.

This book is the literary equivalent of an ensemble film like “Love Actually.” I really liked the story overall – it was a joy to see how each of the characters fit together as the full narrative unfolded.

Fat Girl Begone!
Romantic Comedy
Self Published
Print Length: 235 pages
Publication Date: May 1, 2017
ASIN: B06XTSHJHB

I’m a total mess. My boyfriend dumped me – get this – because I diet too much. Not because I’m fat, mind you. Of course, this spurs me into the diet-fitness-revenge-plan of the century, which leads me to the gym and a scorching hot personal trainer. I even manage to make some cool new friends, including a millionaire if you can believe it. Things are looking up! Naturally, that’s the moment my ex decides he wants me back, the personal trainer asks me out, and my millionaire male buddy decides to throw his hat in the ring. But that’s not enough drama. No, not for me. Because I’ve also lost my job and decided to start my own business. Just call me Ms. Drama.

Warning: Bad language, bumpy roads, and embarrassing moments ahead. But there’s also more than a bit of romance and even, if we’re lucky, love. Fingers crossed.

If you like your romantic comedies a bit on the snarky side, you will laugh out loud at Everly and her entourage…This would be a super beach read.
~Laura’s Interests

I love that many of Haggerty’s heroines have ‘issues’ (body image, confidence, etc.) and they still manage to have all the love, danger, successes and failures of … well, any other woman. They are not defined by their looks. They have rich, full and drama-filled lives outside the reality tv celebrities in their own minds zone.
~Back Porchervations

The book is funny and the author once again does an excellent job with the characters and plot.

About The Author

I grew-up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. But being a lawyer really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out being a B&B owner wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before deciding to follow the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

Fat girl Begone! is my eleventh book.

Laura’s Dream: A Cape Harriet NovellaWomen’s Fiction/Romantic Comedy
4th in Series
Setting – Virginia
Self Published
Print Length: 152 pages
ASIN: B01N9QAXAZ

Connor Brown’s life has turned upside down. All he wants now is a week of solitude at the Rising Tides Inn. Amy’s trying to dodge the curve balls life has thrown at her. She has no time to spare for anyone.

When Connor plows into Amy’s house, he unwittingly wrecks the garden she’s toiled at for months. Neither Amy nor Connor imagine their paths will cross again.

Laura’s Dream is the story of two strangers brought together by fate. They discover a new side of each other’s life every time they meet, only to find they have a lot in common. Will they take a second chance at love?

Book 4 of the much loved Cape Harriet series promises clean sweet romance in a beach setting, yummy food with recipes and small town charm.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Pete and Zadie Strathmore own the Rising Tides Inn and they bend over backwards to make their guests feel at home. Zadie is also something of a matchmaker. Connor Brown comes to the Rising Tides just hoping to escape his life for a while. He meets Amy when his car smashes through her gate and garden and into her house. She wants nothing to do with Connor but they just keep running into each other.

Roma Brooks has given us another wonderful novella to escape into. Another one perfect for a Hallmark movie. She breathes such life into all of her characters. From the main characters to the residents of this small beach town, they are all so real.  The author surprises us too with twists that take the story in different ways that you imagine with just a bit of mystery. Romance builds slowly with delightful ending.

All the stories in this series can be read on their own. I recommend you read them all.

I wish I could visit The Rising Tides Inn and meet Pete and Zadie. The place sounds so relaxing and the food sounds amazing!!

Stella’s mama never should’ve put Stella on the church prayer list. With Stella’s twenty-seventh birthday coming up fast, Nancy desperately wants to see her daughter married and giving her grandbabies. Petitioning heaven seems like a surefire way to get it done. But in Cadillac, Texas, where the gossip’s hotter than the city’s famous jalapeño peppers, it isn’t long before all hell breaks loose.

Heather, the bossy leader of the church’s Prayer Angels, thinks a summer ball will get Stella and the town’s other single gals paired off. But nobody can tell redheaded spitfire Stella what to do—not her mama, not Heather, and not even the sexy beau Stella’s been seeing in secret. Together, Stella, her best friends Charlotte and Piper, and the loyal customers of the Yellow Rose Beauty Shop hatch a good old-fashioned scheme to sabotage the ball. But will it wreck Stella’s relationship with her mama forever? And what will the church folk think when Stella reveals the identity of her mystery man?

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I did not know this was a series when I purchased it but I had no trouble following the characters or the story.

Welcome to Cadillac Texas, where everyone knows your business and gossip runs rampant. Nancy wants her daughter to get married and start giving her grandchildren. So at the weekly meeting of the “prayer angels” at her church she asks them to “prayer for my daughter, she needs a husband”. No one was more surprised that Stella when her mother’s request was posted for all the world to see on a the sign in front of the church.  Add the that, the head of the group thinks the way to help Stella is to have a gala ball and maybe she can help other singles as well. Stella and her friends Charlotte and Piper run The Yellow Rose Beauty Shop so Stella has to face the public every day. Why in the world did her mother put in this predicament? There is no way she is going along with this. She already has a man in her life, but she is not ready to make her relationship public just yet. So, she and her friends are going to do anything they can to sabotage this ball/barn dance.

This story is a HILARIOUS HOOT!

Set in a small southern town all the characters are very realistic. They could be in a small town anywhere with the exception of the dialogue that I read hearing a bit of southern twang. There is a bit of swearing, the sh*t word is used frequently but it fits with the characters and the story.

Heather, the head of the “prayer angels” really doesn’t like Nancy or Stella. She has dreams way beyond Cadillac and she will use just about anyone and anything to make her dream come true. Stella and  Nancy are the typical mother and daughter, but Stella is not ready to forgive and forget the position her mother has put her in. Agnes Flynn, is a redhead like Stella, and at 80 years old she still likes to be right in the mix of all the drama especially if she is the one creating it. Some of her one-liners had me laughing out loud. Stella, Charlotte, Piper, Nancy and Agnes compare themselves to the characters in Steel Magnolias and that hits the nail right on the head.

At the heart this is a story of friendship and the friend’s romances and family life. A funny and heartwarming story with some fun and sassy characters set in the hotter than hot Cadillac Texas right in the middle of the summer. With the temp getting lower and lower here in Wisconsin, I enjoyed the virtual heat and always love a happy ending.

This is my first Carolyn Brown story but it definitely will not be my last. I have already ordered The Blue-Ribbon Jalapeño Society Jubilee, book 1 in this series.

From the “sharp, sassy, [and] surprisingly emotional”* author of Put a Ring on It, New Uses for Old Boyfriends, and The Week Before the Wedding, a new novel set in the charming seaside town of Black Dog Bay, Delaware…

Cammie Breyer needs a big glass of cabernet—her restaurant failed and her chef boyfriend left for a hotter kitchen. Just when she thinks she’s hit rock bottom, her Aunt Ginger calls with a surprise. She’s bought a vineyard—in Delaware. At Ginger’s command, Cammie returns to Black Dog Bay, the seaside town where she spent her childhood summers with her aunt and her cousin, Kat.

The three women reunite, determined to succeed. There’s only one little problem: None of them knows the first thing about wine making. And it turns out, owning a vineyard isn’t all wine and roses. It’s dirt, sweat, and desperation. Every day brings financial pitfalls, unruly tourists, romantic dilemmas, and second thoughts.  But even as they struggle, they cultivate hidden talents and new passions. While the grapes ripen under the summer sun, Cammie discovers that love, like wine, is layered, complex, delicious, and worth waiting for…

Dollycas’s Thoughts

The cover grabbed my attention and what followed was a delightful summer read.

Cammie used to summer in Black Dog Bay, but when her cousin calls to say she must come there right away she has no idea what she is coming back to. It seems her aunt has bought a winery and because Cammie had a restaurant and could talk a good wine game she thinks Cammie is has the expertise needed to manage a winery. Hard work and determination may help Cammie save her aunt and her cousin from bankruptcy. A certain farmer may just make Cammie glad she returned to take on this enormous task.

I discovered this author and this series last year and I am glad I did. When I need a break from my usual mysteries her books seem to be just what I need. Black Dog Bay is quite a place –  “the best place in America to bounce back from your breakup.”  With places like Better Off Bed-and-Breakfast, the Eat Your Heart Out bakery, and the Whinery bar, Black Dog Bay offers a haven for the suddenly single. So Cammie has come to the right place. Her cousin Kat is married, but things in her life are far from paradise so maybe this little adventure can put things back on track. Aunt Ginger is recovering from a traumatic event and doesn’t have a man in her life but is open to the idea. And that cute little bulldog on the cover is Jacque, he makes himself right at home with all 3 of them at Lost Dog Vineyard.

This is a funny, lighthearted story about a true family bond. These women are so clearly in over their heads but are determined to make wine without a lot of whining. A few trips to the Whinery bar and some guidance from someone that knows about growing fruits and the weather help get them off to a good start. I admire the courage they had and the way they didn’t give up.

Like any romantic comedy read/movie the ending is predictable but I really enjoyed my escape to Black Dog Bay. The author tells the story in a clever way with a few laugh out loud moments. I was very pleased with the way the theme “bloom where you are planted” ran through the entire story.

This book is part of a series that all take place in the same location but are stand alone stories.

enjoyable 2016

Synopsis

I’m having the suckiest day ever. First, my father, aka Mr. Grumpy Pants, calls to say his nurse just walked out on him. Likely story. I rush home to pack only to walk in on my husband getting it on with his younger, skanky secretary. Unfortunately, my quick weekend trip home to fix Dad’s problems turns into a stay of a few weeks. Luckily, I’ve got Danny, the neighbor boy I had a crush on when I was a dorky, braces-wearing, nose-buried-in-a-book teenager, and a brand-spanking new blog to keep my mind off things. Before I know it, I’m writing product reviews of vibrators and getting questioned by a store rent-a-cop at the world’s worst date ever. All while trying to figure out how to take things with Danny to the next level. Not to complicate things or anything but my boss decides to give me an ultimatum – come back in four weeks or don’t come back at all. How in the world did my life get so complicated?

Another job change, this time from lawyer to B&B owner and I was again fed up and ready to scream I quit, which is incredibly difficult when you own the business. Thus, I shut the B&B during the week and in the off-season and started writing. Several books later I find myself in Istanbul writing full-time.
