I never realized how fulfilling blogging could be,
sharing my thoughts and my books.
Earlier this week I saw a variety of posts for Book Blogger Appreciation Week telling their blogging stories. If you are a long time follower you know my story but for those new followers here’s just a little bit of my blogging story.
In March 2001 I was in an accident where I rolled my full size van. Wasn’t wearing a seat belt which in this case was a good thing because I was thrown out of my seat which was totally crushed. Technically I should be dead but by the grace of God I am still here. My right side is paralyzed but the left side works pretty well. With the exception of forgetting a few things, my brain is still working. I used to be quite a crafty person but a few years ago when my daughter wanted to learn to knit and crochet I had no memory of how to even get started. Thankfully my mother-in-law was able to step in. Now I read books about all the crafts I used to love to do. I think that is why I love cozies so much. (I still have enough fabric in totes to open my own fabric store and quilts in progress that I hope someday will be completed. :)).
After a lengthy recovery time I was able to work as a bookkeeper for our church. Getting out a couple of days a week was fantastic, until the new pastor at our church decided I was an obstacle to a agenda and had me fired. I was devastated until a friend I met at PaperbackSwap encouraged me to start a blog. Lori of Lori’s Reading Corner is the one who gets the credit for the start of Dollycas’s Thoughts and again when Blogger forced me to switch to WordPress and this current blog.
I often wonder what my quality of life would have been without the internet. The people I have met online have given as much, maybe more strength that I get from people I meet face to face. I have surpassed my doctor’s expectations in a big way and I think my online friends are the reason. I get up every morning and get on this computer to see what you all are up to, and to let you know what’s happening with me. Sharing my thoughts, my books, my life with all of you.
Thank you all for following Escape With Dollycas Into A Good Book!!!

Congrats to the winners. Thank you for more of your story. I got started reading cozies because of loving knitting so much.
Now, I don’t have time to knit! I have a lapquilt done with the embroidery part but I don’t know how to quilt it! Maybe some day?
So glad that you made it out of the crash alive. I was in a bad one long ago but was wearing my seatbelt. My head went straight for the steering wheel, I was on the passagers side. For two weeks, it felt like I had the steering wheel attached to my left ear (which bleed). But I recovered fine.
Hugs to you and all who read this.
Carol
Thank you to Lori’s Reading Corner!
Congrats to the winners! I’m always amazed by your story. Glad you’re here to read with us!
What an amazing story. I am so glad that you shared yours.
Congratulations to your winners too. 🙂
Thank you…for the book and for sharing your story. Congrats to all the other winners too! You are a very brave woman, Dolly! I didn’t have an accident…but suffer from a breakdown I had several years ago and the residual anxiety and depression that often make it difficult for me to leave the house. I find my escape through books and most of my socialization is via the friends I meet and talk with on the computer. I found out when I had to leave the job where I’d worked for 25 yrs…that I had more acquaintances than I did true friends. Those folks I thought I could count on being there for me…as I had been there for them…were in the wind. And still are. Nine years later and I’m still feeling a bit betrayed and abandoned. It was a had lesson to learn, a bitter pill to swallow. But…I stumbled upon these blogs, the interviews/reviews, contests/giveaways and have talked with so many fabulous authors and reviewers…like yourself…that it makes me…just as you mentioned glad to hop onto the computer each morning just to see what’s going on. Thanks again for sharing your story…and letting me share a little of mine. 🙂
Barbara,
Thank you for sharing your story. It is wonderful we can all be there for each other.
