This is the first year since 1990 that I have no children starting school. The youngest two are both taking a semester off from college. The house seems odd without all the Back to School chaos.
My daughter is just starting to know what parents go through this time of year as my grandson starts 4 year old kindergarten. The right backpack, new shoes, new clothes, all the right supplies.
The new technology is exciting for me. I see from the school newsletter all the computer upgrades taking place and a great number of laptop computers being purchased. Allowing older kids to use their cell phones during school because so many now have internet access.
The technology scares me too because as my grandson gets older more and more books will be electronic. Holding a book in their hands may become history. It is such a wonderful feeling to hold a book in your hands and crack the spine and turn the pages. New books have their smell and old books have theirs. The old textbooks have a history, usually students that used the book in prior years have their names written in the front. They may have left notes in the margins. This makes just a little connection between the students.
For this hop my Escapes include brand new books just waiting for you to crack the spine and have the new book smell. I hope you enjoy my choices.
First in a new series that has the perfect mix of Regency murder and mystery.
When the marchioness is found murdered at Polbrook mansion, the Dowager Lady Polbrook’s new companion, Ottilia Draycott, finds herself in a house of strangers and every one of them a suspect. Only she can unmask and outwit a desperate killer and keep a Polbrook family secret buried.
Nora Blackbird, the Bucks County ex-debutante with a haute couture wardrobe, a hot job as a glamorous society columnist and a stone cold bank account, might finally have her own life just right, but everyone around her is going down in flames. Her sister Libby seems destined to be the lead character in a tabloid sex scandal. Her sister Emma is expecting a mysterious love child. Her best friend, Lexie Paine, is serving time in the slammer. And now her mobbed-up boyfriend, Mick Abruzzo—who might actually be her husband—is conducting clandestine capers from Blackbird Farm while under house arrest. What’s a good girl to do?
