With the pressure of an upcoming state dinner that could make or break the president’s foreign policy, White House executive chef Olivia Paras has precious little time to focus on her wedding plans—or to catch a murderer…
A new Chief Usher and a very important State Dinner has Ollie, Cyan and Bucky hopping and Virgil being his usual unhelpful self. Gav is slowly recovering from the last foray with Ollie. But it is hard to keep a good man down. He wants to get married as soon as possible. With the courts being booked with civil ceremonies for weeks he hopes an old agent friend, Evan, can help them out. When Ollie and Gav arrive to meet with him they find him and four other people dead. Gav is determined to find out why his friend was killed but then the Secretary of Defense is murdered and Gav and Ollie start to connect the dots as do the Secret Service and all the other alphabet agencies. Security is increased but will it be enough? Can they figure out the real target and stop the killer in time?
Dollycas’s Thoughts
After I finish a Julie Hyzy book I always think this is the best one yet and then she goes on to top herself with the next story. This one was just plain AWESOME!!
Chasing Ollie around The White House and Washington I was even out of breathe. She really doesn’t want to be in the middle of all the investigations and tribulations but she just naturally ends up there. They should just make her an honorary member of the Secret Service.
Thankfully Bucky and Cyan can keep that kitchen going because she is not only busy tracking down criminals but dealing with internal politics over her kitchen staff, all while trying to plan even a small wedding. She also has fun tutoring the President’s son Josh as he would like to be a chef someday himself. Ollie even lets him assist in the preparations for the big state dinner, even if he means 2 Secret Service agents taking up space in the already too small kitchen space.
So much happens in this story. There is drama, dead bodies, food, intrigue, humor, foot chases, corruption, more food, secrets, politics, twists, turns, even more food and something very special. I didn’t know I could turn pages or read as fast as I did. I had chills, I laughed and I can’t believe I even shed a few tears.
You just can’t go wrong with a book by Julie Hyzy. If she is a new author to you start at the beginning with State of the Onion, you will love each and every one. If you are already a fan, run, don’t walk, and get your copy today!! I cannot wait to get my hands on the next installment. Julie, write faster 🙂
