Synopsis
The hope of a future for the broken begins in Mourning.
Skip-tracer Renee Stratford-Knight’s life plan changed upon her sister’s murder. Instead of using her skills to find people, Renee opened New Beginnings a firm specializing in “vanishing” abused women. Now her ex-husband -and former business partner – Jonas Knight reenters her life asking about her most vulnerable client.
Jonas knows his ex-wife helped embezzler Gina Howard elude the authorities and intends to bring the young woman to justice. When Renee is threatened, Jonas grows suspicious of his client’s reason for finding his niece.
In order to uncover the secret a teenager girl disappeared to keep, and a killer wants silenced, Jonas and Renee must struggle through distrust and the pain of their pasts to work together to save the life of teenage girl – and their own.
Dollycas’s Thoughts
This is an exceptional start for this series. Freeburn draws you right in as the reader strives to understand what broke up Renee and Jonas Knight. Both are skip-tracers but Renee is taking her skills in a different direction. They soon find their cases are intertwined so it is hard for them to avoid each other. Plus there is a huge secret that is revealed and changes everything.
These characters are so fully developed from the start. You know Renee’s faith is a huge part of her life and she leans on it heavily in her work. She helps to relocate battered women, a cause that touched her family personally. Jonas was abandoned as a child and really doesn’t have much faith at all. He has serious trust issues and takes on a burden that is not really his.
This is an inspirational story in that Renee prays for God’s help throughout the book. She wants to do the right things, trust the right people and follow God’s path for her life but she has a really hard time with forgiveness.
There are several supporting characters that also shine in this story. Renee’s brother Alex and her friend Danita work with Renee at New Beginnings. She is confident is Danita’s abilities but is afraid to let Alex get too involved. She wants to keep her little brother safe. Renee’s parents also help battered women and are working to set up a shelter.
The author has given us a suspenseful plot while blending in the spiritual and romantic elements flawlessly.
This is a cause near and dear to my heart and I am thrilled with the way Christina Freeburn highlights this type of violence in this series. Although I have learned from family experience domestic violence cuts both ways. It is not always the woman or children that are the abused parties.
I can’t wait to read, Led Astray (New Beginnings Book 2)!!

What an intriguing book! Thanks for sharing the great review.
I love mysteries and romantic suspense. And when I find one that also has inspirational / faith aspects to it, all the better. I will certainly be looking for LOST THEN FOUND to add to my library, and not just to my TBR list.
