Cordelia Kane has always been a daddy’s girl—her father raised her alone after her mother died in a car crash when Cordelia was just two years old. So when he has a serious heart attack, Cordelia is devastated, and the emotion is only intensified by the confusion she feels when he reveals the shocking truth about her mother.
Cordelia can’t suppress her curiosity about the woman who gave birth to her, and when she discovers the answers to her questions lie in Sydney, Australia, she travels there to get them.
Hotel magnate Aiden Madison is Cordelia’s best friend’s older brother. He’s oblivious to the fact that she’s had a crush on him for years. When he gets railroaded into taking her along to Sydney on his company jet, he’s unwittingly drawn into a volatile family drama.
Aiden wants to help Cordelia get answers about her mother, but threats from her wealthy, high-powered family are quickly becoming dangerous. Sparks are flying between Cordelia and Aiden, but after multiple attempts are made on Cordelia’s life, Aiden realizes he must put a stop to the madness before he loses the thing he values most.
Dollycas’s Thoughts
I am testing my memory on this story. I believe Aiden and Cordelia’s crush started way back in a previous book. I believe it was Murder List back in 2004 and now 10 years later they come together again. Aiden was always more of a big brother figure because he was her best friend’s older brother, but she has a huge crush on the guy. This time they are thrown together due to circumstances beyond their control and her crush is reciprocated in a big way. Now she just has to stay alive and they need to realize they belong together.
The plot of this one was very engaging. After all these years Cordie’s father reveals a secret on his deathbed about her mother. My heart was breaking for her and she had the courage to uncover the truth even though it put her in mortal danger.
There is also a subplot involving the Madison brothers. Two are very active in the family hotel business and the third brother is more of a playboy who races cars and hooks up with a variety of ladies. An accident has sidelined him and he decides to get involved in a deal his brothers have written off. Spencer and Aiden are not happy about Walker taking on the deal and family drama ensues. Add this to Cordie’s drama and it makes a helluva story!
Yes, this book is part of the Buchanan / Renard / MacKenna series but what I like it that Julie Garwood writes them so they can each stand alone. Characters have returned from previous books but they are full and fleshed out so that you don’t have to reread or try to remember how everyone got to where they are today. But everyone that I have read has been very entertaining so if you can you should start at the beginning. When writing about family drama, suspense and romance Julie Garwood is one of the best.
I am hoping we don’t have to wait another 10 years to revisit these characters. I would love to Walker have his own adventure soon as he decides whether he wants to concentrate on the family business or on his playboy pleasures.
