I am thrilled to welcome back Cleo Coyle to Escape With Dollycas!!
CLEO COYLE is the pseudonym for Alice Alfonsi, writing in collaboration with her husband, Marc Cerasini. I am happy they asked me to organize a Great Escapes Book Tour for them for this new book Once Upon a Grind.
A NOTE FROM CLEO
Caffeinated thanks to Dollycas for hosting our Coffeehouse Escape tour, and happy holiday greetings to everyone!
Marc and I had great fun planting fairy tales clues in Once Upon a Grind. As you read our book, watch for “Hansel and Gretel” stand-ins; a “Prince Charming” in tight pants; a confrontation with “Red in the ’Hood”; and a love story with a Goth “Cinderella.” The funny thing is, the more pages Marc and I wrote of our new mystery, the more we realized that this idea of casting characters in fairy tale roles wasn’t limited to fiction.
In our daily lives, many of us cast the people we encounter in archetypal roles. One woman is a peasant, another a princess. One man is a prince, another a predator. Consciously or un-, we cast ourselves in these little stories, too—and so does our main character, coffeehouse manager turned amateur sleuth Clare Cosi, which is where her personal plot unfolds.
Clare doesn’t want to admit it, but her life has become a grind. “If you ever find yourself in the wrong story, leave.” Clare wants to leave her story and start another, but she doesn’t know how. Is Clare able to change her story by the end of the book? No spoiler here. But if you’re a fan of our series, you won’t want to miss this entry. On the other hand, if you’ve never read our Coffeehouse Mysteries before, no worries. Once Upon a Grind can be read as a stand-alone novel. And if you enjoy it, you’ll have 13 more books you can read, as well.
