Paperback: 304 pages

It’s June in Lake Eden, Minnesota, and for Hannah Swensen, that means bridal showers galore, plus a massive fundraising event in need of confections – not to mention a killer who never learned that charity begins at home…Early summer brings plenty of work for Hannah, even before Mayor Bascomb’s wife drops by The Cookie Jar to place an order…for eleven-hundred cookies! Stephanie Bascomb is organizing an elaborate three-day event to support local charities, and though it’s a worthy cause, Hannah almost flips when her business partner, Lisa, suggests setting up an apple turnover stand. Hannah’s never made a turnover – but, pushover that she is, she places her faith in Lisa’s mother-in-law’s recipe and agrees to be a magician’s assistant in the fundraiser’s talent show…Dozens of pastries and one hideous purple dress later, Hannah has to admit that stepping out of her comfort zone has been fun as well as profitable. The only snag is the show’s host, community college professor Bradford Ramsey. Hannah and her younger sister Michelle each had unfortunate romantic relationships with Ramsey, and when the cad comes sniffing around between acts, Hannah tells him off. But when the curtain doesn’t go up, she discovers Ramsey backstage – dead as a doornail with a turnover in his hand…Now, to protect her reputation and Michelle’s, Hannah must get to the bottom of the professor’s bitter end. There are plenty of scorned suspects, including an ex-wife who feels cheated in more ways than one, and a prominent local who may have been using Ramsey to avenge her own randy spouse. But who was unstable enough to snuff out Professor Love? A killer who’s flakier than puff pastry – and far more dangerous…
This is one of my favorite series and I was thrilled to hear that Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is making a movie featuring the first book in the series starring Allison Sweeney (Days of Our Lives and The Biggest Loser) and Cameron Mathison (All My Children).
Hallmark Channel is looking to repeat the success of its Good Witch films with another original movie franchise, Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder. Alison Sweeney has been tapped to star in the franchise for Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, with the first movie set to premiere this spring. Based on the New York Times bestselling series of books by Joanne Fluke, Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder centers on Hannah Swensen (Sweeney), shop owner of the Cookie Jar where much of the town’s gossip percolates along with the strong coffee. When a mysterious murder occurs, Hannah turns into a culinary detective and finds herself trying to solve the crime while getting caught in an unexpected romantic mystery of her own.
The casting comes on the heels of Sweeney’s starring role in one of Hallmark’s highest-rated original movies ever, Second Chances. She’s also set to star in and executive produce previously announced Radio Hype, which is currently in development for at the channel.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder marks Sweeney’s first major acting gig following her October exit from Days Of Our Lives after almost 22 years as Sami Brady. Sweeney would continue her 13-season run as host of The Biggest Loser if the veteran NBC reality series is renewed.
The nice thing about reading just for fun is that you can pick a book off your huge TO-BE-READ stacks and enjoy it with no pressure of a review.
I have loved every book in this series and when I finished this one I wanted to grab the next one right away. My reading schedule didn’t allow that but there is always next month Just For Fun Read and it maybe Devil’s Food Cake Murder. It seems to be calling out to me!
Happy Reading Everyone!

I too enjoy this series and must play catch up!
I am very excited that Hallmark is doing the movie, although so many places don’t carry the Hallmark channel. I sure hope I will be able to see it after it comes out! I have really enjoyed the series!
I was so happy to see this post. I have gotten involved in reviewing because I love reading.
Perhaps I jumped in too heavily to books others wanted me to read and review. I love doing it, but I also enjoy reading for my own pleasure. And there are certain genres that call out to me for leisurely pleasure reads. Cozy Mysteries are at the top of the ENJOYment pile.
So I joined the group and for January I read Ritter Ames Organized for Murder purely for fun.
Hi Lori! I’ve read this and really enjoyed as I have all of the other Goldie Schultz stories. Allison Sweeney huh? She wouldn’t be my choice, but that’s just me.
Well, do I have egg on my face! Hannah Swensen is what I meant to say rather than Goldie Schultz. I guess I have Diane Mott Davidson on my mind today. She’s another awesome culinary cozy series writer. If you haven’t read anything of hers…please give her a try…I doubt you’d be disappointed.
This is the book I am on in the series! I love Joanne Fluke! I can’t believe it’s going to become a movie on Hallmark channel now. Issue I have is every time I read one of her books, I want to make all the recipes 😀
i have learned never to read Fluke on an empty stomach..too many yummy recipes in her books
