Fan of the Month – June

This is the 6th month in the Year of the Reader!

If you are a fan of my blog I know you are a READER!

So this year I will be randomly choosing a
Fan of the Month!

Not only will this help me get to know you better but it will help the readers get to know each other better. You may find someone that likes the same authors, books, genres you do. You may “meet” someone that enjoys the same hobbies or is in a similar line of work. They may be someone you want to follow on Social Media.

I am excited to introduce of June’s Fan of the Month!

Tell us a little bit about yourself – I am a first generation American, born to parents who immigrated from the Netherlands to Chicago where I was raised. My husband and I live in a suburb with 2 of our 3 young adult children who are vibrant and thriving despite being medically fragile and technology dependent (requiring round the clock care). Our family also includes 4 superbly trained service dogs. Professionally, I am a R.N. with Certification in Clinical Research. An injury resulting in disability abruptly ended a career I loved.

Where is your favorite place to curl up and Escape into a Good Book? Normally, that would be sitting in the recliner with Skittles at my side. Currently it is reclining in bed with Skittles at my side. I always have my Kindle or a book with me!

Do you have a favorite author, book or series? I have far too many ‘favorites’ to name one. I’ve been reading mysteries since childhood and cozies ever since. A number of those early series are no longer published. There are 15 to 20 authors that I can claim to be my favorites!

What fictional character do you wish was real so you could meet them in person? I would love to meet the “perfectly imperfect” Zoe Donavon. I can relate to her in all too many ways!

How long have you been a Fan of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book? I have been a fan of Escape with Dollycas after sustaining an injury which resulted in permanent disability in 2011. At that time I needed to discover more authors and books in the genre I appreciate.

What is your favorite part of Escape with Dollycas into a Good Book’s blog? I love your blogs because we have similar tastes in books and your reviews have introduced me to new, now favorite, authors and books/series. Plus, it is always fun to win one of your giveaway contests.

Is there anything else you would like us to share? Life has been a struggle, ups and downs, nothing is in our control, not one little thing, it is a tough battle, one that has caused us to be tired and worn. At times our hearts are heavy and we struggle to breath in and out, other times we are good and at peace. Just being and being before God is really our only strength, we, as a family, covet the prayers of everyone. I try to not get mired down in the “woe is me” or “woe is us” dumps. This is the reality of the life I live – knowing that as hard as life is many days, as many things as I WANT to whine and complain about – I know at the end of the day, that the fact that we are all still HERE and still alive is the biggest blessing of all. This is not a lesson I take lightly. So we will get through this day, and the sun will rise again in the morning and things will look different. Maybe still hard, maybe a little better. But each day is new and always full of the opportunity for good things. Most of all I thank you, Lori, and the authors who so generously give of their time and talent to fill my days with hours of reading enjoyment and for hanging in there with me through this stage of the journey. The sun will come out tomorrow, right?
