A dying wish alters the course of a young woman’s life.
Life hadn’t been easy for Summer Snow. In acts of selflessness-caring for her ailing parents and running her grandmother’s bookstore-she had forfeited her youth and dreams for the needs of others. And the only tries she had at love… didn’t turn out. She had the bookstore, she had her beloved granny, but she was missing something-or someone.
Opportunity strikes when Granny sends Summer on an unexpected adventure with one Martin Langtree, a kind but gangly young man from Summer’s past. A childhood friendship is rekindled, a romance is sparked, and mysteries are solved in one magical Texas summer. Will Summer strike out on love again, or will things finally go her way?
Dollycas’s Thoughts
This is a little different from what I have been reading lately but when I was offered a copy to review I jumped at it.
Summer has put everyone else first and she made some poor choices in the romance department. She breaks off her latest relationship and goes to visit her grandmother to give her the news but her grandmother has news of her own. She is very sick and has just a few months to live. As a woman who is very strong in her faith she is not really scared or upset about the news but Summer is devastated and doesn’t want to accept that her grandmother is dying. Her grandmother has a perfect solution to help Summer. She gives her a list, sort of a bucket list, but more a list of things Summer missed out on while she was taking care of others. The top item on the list was finding her childhood friend and even includes taking a hot air balloon ride. Summer was hesitant but finally agrees.
This a wonderful story. I loved the characters and really appreciated the many messages sent throughout the story. The characters are all flawed and dealing with different things in their lives. A few are angry at God and believe me I am in the place several times each day. One of the supporting characters had suicidal thoughts, just like my son, and I thought I was not going to be able to finish. I don’t think this is too much of a spoiler, but the outcome in the story was different than in my life, and I was happy for that.
I have not read anything by this author before but hope to read more of her books in the future. She is a great storyteller and weaves the religious parts in excellently and doesn’t come off as preachy at all. The romance parts are just what you would expect for this type of novel.
If Christian fiction is a genre you enjoy I highly recommend this story.
