I am so happy to welcome Paty Jager back
to Escape With Dollycas!
Her latest mystery, Yuletide Slaying was released on October 31. Set at Christmas time, you can put this mystery on your holiday reading list.
My name is Sheba, I’m a Newfoundland, border collie, and no one seems to know what else, not even my veterinarian. But my owner, Shandra Higheagle, loves me even when I drool and knock over things due to my large size and clumsiness.
Her boyfriend, Detective Greer, thinks it’s funny that a dog my size is scared of loud noises and greets everyone by rolling on to my back and showing my belly. I think he shouldn’t be judging me when he appears to be afraid of Crazy Lil, the woman who works for my owner and takes care of me when Shandra is away. I like Lil, even if she does carry that worthless cat around her neck.
Shandra has had dreams since her Nez Perce grandmother died. Mostly they are clues to the murders that have been happening around her lately. I’m there to keep her company when she has these dreams. My large furry body seems to be her favorite thing to hug when she wakes from the dreams. Unless Ryan is there. Then I don’t get invited up on the bed. If he didn’t make Shandra so happy, I’d be chewing up his shoes and burying his boots in the snow.
I was excited when Shandra volunteered me to pull a sleigh full of presents for foster kids in the county Christmas parade in Huckleberry. I looked good in the red harness and pulling the red sleigh. Ryan’s nieces and nephews gave me lots of attention as I waited for Santa to arrive and lead me.
The old car in front of me made a sound like a gun, and I bolted down the street. I couldn’t move fast enough to get away from that noise. I was panting so loud I didn’t hear anything and blindly ran down the streets and through alleys. One alley had two men fighting. The smell of blood stopped me, and one man fell into the sleigh. The other man stabbed at me. I heard Shandra call my name and ran as fast as I could toward her.
I’m as good at telling stories as my creator. To find out what happens to me and who the body is, you’ll have to pick up Paty Jager’s latest book, Yuletide Slaying. I’m on the cover and have a bigger role in this book than any of the other in the series.

I love this cover! This sounds like a great book!,Thanks!
Thank you, Terri! My daughter designs my covers.
Another great book by the look of things (andthing with dogs is a plus is my mind!)
Thanks, Tempewytch. Dogs are one of my favorite pets.
This is a really fun series. For me, it does come perilously close to the line of romance novel dressed in mystery clothing, but I like the characters and plots so much, I just don’t care. This is a highly readable, enjoyable series.
Hi Denise, I’m glad you are enjoying the series. I think to make characters multi-dimensional they need romance. 😉
Love the book cover. This is a new author to me and I look forward to reading this series. Thanks for the chance to win your book. 🙂
Hi Marie, Thank you! The cover has my grandson on it as well as several other elements incorporated. The first book of this series if free. Download and enjoy!
Thank you for having Sheba and I on the blog today!
Thank you for including a holiday themed book on your blog. I haven’t read this author or her series so I am looking forward to obtaining a copy of this book. My fingers are crossed to be a lucky one to win a copy.
We just got a puppy from the Animal Shelter that was listed as an Australian Cattle Dog Mix — well, based on the growth rate, we think the mix includes Rottweiler & Great Dane! Love Newfoundlands!
Love big dogs and I love books with Native American characters, this sounds like fun.
The big dogs can be such mushes.
I want to know more about those dreams.
What a beautiful dog! The book sounds amazing and I can’t wait to read it. Merry Christmas #
I love the cover, the dog is just wonderful. I can’t wait to read your series.
Let’s try this again! I responded to everyone else last night but my internet connection was wonkie.
Robeader, Thank you for stopping in and commenting. Even if you don’t win you can pick up the first book in this series free as an ebook. Look for Double Duplicity and you can start Shandra, Sheba, and Ryan’s journey.
Celia, When I was a kid, we had a dingo. Anyway, that’s what my dad said it was, so I’m thinking it was an Australian cattle dog??? Not sure. It was sure skittish and liked to heel everyone. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
D.M., Thank you for stopping in! Big dogs are so fun! I have other books that have Native American characters in them. My tag line is: Murder mystery and western romance starring cowboys and Indians.
Elizabeth, Shandra’s deceased Nez Perce grandmother who was prominent in the seven drums religion comes to Shandra in dreams giving her cryptic clues to the killers. Making up the cryptic dreams is as much of a challenge as plotting who did it without giving it away.
Diane, Merry Christmas to you too! I hope you enjoy Sheba’s Christmas story. I’m plotting out a Halloween story with her having another starring role. 😉
Doward, Your name intrigues me! I had a grandfather named Deward. Thanks for stopping in and don’t forget you can get the first book of the series for free in ebook. Pop in Double Duplicity at your favorite ebook outlet and enjoy!
Sounds like a great book!
