Nana’s Thoughts
What better time to review a book about feeling sick than when you are actually dealing with a bug yourself. I have been coughing for days and this book made me smile.
I loved the text, wonderful rhythm and rhymes, what I would expect from a musician, 🙂 A couple of pages did lose the rhythm to add some crazy goofy words and sentences, but I think the children may enjoy these pages best because the are crazy and goofy. The wording is appropriate for the targeted age. The older ones could probably read it themselves but if they are not feeling well they will enjoy you reading it to them. Silly verses that children will love. Even a song to sing when you want “sickness” to go away.
The illustrations by Andy Elkerton are bright and and so colorful. The monsters/bugs/viruses are just the right amount of funny/scary. The doctors and nurses are smiling and friendly. The kids are cute and lovable even when they are feeling sick. I am happy to see a diverse cast, even a child in a wheelchair.
This is the kind of book that will be read again and again. I can hear children asking to have it read to them whenever they are feeling ill. Soon they will know the words and recite them right along with the reader. A great message for both boys and girls. I do think the upper range of the target area may not enjoy it time and time again as much as the younger ones.
A funny book to lift a child spirits when they are feeling sick. I will be checking out Coy’s other books too!
