A Week in the Life of Dollycas

Yesterday was a crazy day but I think my plans exceeded my abilities as my first real day out following my cancer treatments and now that I am fully vaccinated.

We started the day at Natalie’s dance recital. It was held outside at the city park. It was also the hottest day so far this year with the temps reaching 86 degrees when the first show ended. There was a nice breeze though and the kids did move me to the shade at intermission. I feel bad for all the dancers and spectators. The second performance started at 1 p.m. and the sun was high in the sky and the shaded areas had all but disappeared. Natalie did fantastic, in fact, the whole show was wonderful and all the hard work everyone put in was very evident.

Daisy did come with us, she seems to go everywhere we do 🙂 Kaden and Remi met us in the park and they took over Daisy’s care, keeping her in the shade, well-watered, and played with. She had a great time.

By this time I was overheated and running out of gas but we wanted to stop at a drive-in restaurant that has been a family favorite over the years. Sadly, it was a big disappointment. The sandwiches used to be huge and the prices fair. Yesterday the french fries as always were plentiful but the burgers were tiny and expensive. I have seen several dogs there over the years so we thought she would be welcome. After all the play in the park, Daisy found a nice cool spot under the table to relax. She did bark when the waitress brought our food and drinks, but when she walked away Daisy laid back down under the table. Note: I had added a  big tip to our already pricey bill because she had barked and was appreciative for being able to have her there. But then, the manager came out and said she had to leave because of her barking. We were shocked because she was being so good. Had it been incessant we would have removed her right away. Son #2 took her for a walk but I was overheated and had lost my appetite so Daisy and I went to the car, where she remained on her best behavior. I know she would have barked if she was put in there alone. The rest of the family rushes through their meals and we headed home. So needless to say, that business has received their last dollar from me.

We had planned to stop and visit my mother-in-law on the way home but I was exhausted and had a bit of a sunburn so we will save the visit for another day when she is our only stop. Mr. Dollycas has seen her a couple of times this past year but I haven’t seen her since my cancer diagnosis and COVID. I need to get myself reconditioned for this wonderful heat because I want to enjoy lots of time with family this summer.

We did have a couple of extra passengers on the way home. Kaden and Remi are here for their first overnight since our move. I have really missed these two. It was great to see their mom at the recital too and spend some time with her. The boys head home today because they still have about a week of school left.

How was your week?

  1. It sounds like the dance recital went beautifully. I’m sorry it was so hot. I know that is difficult. And I’m sad things did not go well at the restaurant. I think people are all on edge still after all these months of isolation. Sometimes I think we’ve lost our social skills!

Death in Castle Dark and Kill All Your Darlings both look promising.

I hope you will get acclimated to this hot weather so that you can spend lots of time with your family, Lori.

  2. Not sure how many years I’ve been following you but I can’t believe how grown up Natalie looks these days. Sounds like the dance recital was a success!

Too bad about that restaurant kicking the poor doggo out just for one bark. Sheesh! She couldn’t help herself. LOL
