Beauty and the Deceased (A Resale Boutique Mystery)
by Debra Sennefelder
I am so happy to welcome Debra Sennefelder
to Escape With Dollycas today!
Hi Debra,
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m the author of the Resale Boutique Mystery series and the Food Blogger Mystery
series. I was born and raised in New York City and I now live and write in Connecticut with my BFF, Connie. She’s a two-year-old Shih Tzu. When I’m not writing, I love to bake and read.
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
It depends on the book. For BEAUTY AND THE DECEASED, I didn’t have to do much research. For an upcoming project, I will be diving into a lot of how-to content so that I can learn a new skill.
Do you ever suffer from Writer’s Block?
No. Sure, there are times when I get stuck but they don’t last long and I’ve found that if I simply move onto to doing something else, like tackling admin work or maybe I’ll step away and exercise or read. Eventually whatever got me stuck usually works its way out and I’m back at my computer.
What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer?
I would suggest keep writing, honing your craft, and read widely.
When you are not writing what do you like to do?
I love to spend time in the kitchen cooking and baking. I also enjoy reading and taking walks with Connie.
How has the COVID pandemic affected you and you’re writing.
No, it hasn’t. I’ve been contracted to produce books so I couldn’t allow for the pandemic to interfere with my writing schedule. Though, it was challenging having family in the house all day, every day for a year.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
I’d love to go back to Wyoming and Montana. And I’d love to go to Alaska. Wyoming and Montana are beautiful, breathtaking. And I imagine Alaska would be amazing. Plus, I’d love to see the bears fish for salmon.
What is next on the horizon for you?
I’ve sold a new series featuring a cookie artist (that new skill I have to learn) who takes over her aunt’s bakery. That book won’t be out until at least 2023. I’m currently writing the next Resale Boutique book.
Thank you Debra so much for dropping by today.

Kelly Quinn’s Long Island consignment shop offers high style at secondhand prices—but when a body is found on the beach, she needs to start hunting for a wolf in sheep’s clothing . . .
Kelly is thrilled when she gets a visit from a cousin she hasn’t seen in years. Becky’s cosmetics company is taking off, and she just might have laid the foundation for a big-money buyout. It’s a time to celebrate—but Kelly is heartbroken when a killer puts an end to their happy reunion during a mysterious midnight meeting near the shore.
Despite multiple warnings to steer clear, Kelly starts shadowing a variety of suspects both inside and outside the beauty business—when she isn’t busy filling the racks of the Lucky Cove Resale Boutique with lots of new inventory from a local shopaholic. Gossip and accusations are flying, but there’s no glossing over this ugly crime, and she’s going to make sure the culprit faces justice…

This is a new to me series. I love the concept of a consignment shop. Wish we had one here. I find many people are able to buy some really great items when shopping there.
I enjoy visiting consignment shops and look forward to reading this intriguing resale shop mystery.
A cookie artist sounds like a fun occupation. I am looking forward to this new series.
