HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!
I shared a picture last week about the number of mass shootings since Uvalde and had hopes we could get thru a few days without another. Well, there were 13 more mass shootings just last weekend. This weekend there were several rallies across the country calling for action on gun laws. Congress has been working on a plan that basically does nothing because Republicans won’t support anything of substance even when the majority of the country supports background checks, red flag laws, and even banning the AR-15. The youth of our country have been on the front lines and many are now old enough to vote. I think it is going to be those young adults that force the change we need. But we all have to vote to get people in office that are actually working for the country, not the dollars they receive from the NRA.
Last Saturday we had our first Family Fun Day since COVID turned the world upside down. We left the rain behind and headed to Bay Beach Amusement Park in Green Bay, Wisconsin, where the sun was shining. The park is filled with great vintage rides and tickets for them are just 25 cents. The larger rides can take up to four tickets but all in all, it was a pretty inexpensive day and a whole lot of fun!
I have not been on a carnival ride in over 20 years so when my kids told me the Big Wheel Ferris Wheel was wheelchair accessible I couldn’t wait to get on it. Because of my disability, we also got to move to the front of the line. The staff had to put in special equipment to hold my chair in place and they did it with smiles on their faces. It was a little breezy up there but the views were amazing!
After we practically closed down the park we laughed that we still had tickets. Kaden walked up to a couple of grandparents surrounded by little kids and made their day by giving our leftover tickets to them. We could have saved them for another visit but we hadn’t been to this park since the kids were about Charlotte, Remi, and Natalie’s age so who knows when we would be back again.
We left the park and traveled across the street so the kids and the grands could drive go-carts and play mini-golf. Sadly, Mr. Dollycas was fighting a terrible head cold so he took a little rest in the car while I kept Charlotte entertained.
On our way home we pulled into a Denny’s for a late supper before we all headed home already talking about our next family fun day.
Since I usually work 7 days a week I spent this week getting caught up on blog and tour stuff and trying to find the bottom of my overflowing email inbox in addition to what I usually do every day. One day off put me behind but time spent with family is the most important part of life and I will always jump at the chance to spend time with them.
And that cold Mr. Dollycas had . . . he has now shared it with me and Daughter #2. Funny we made it all the way through COVID without having so much as a sniffle. He goes back to the office and has been sick twice and this time it spread to the rest of the household. We will be hitting it hard with DayQuil and NightQuil in hopes of getting better quick!
