Aspiring witch and culinary entrepreneur, Mia Malone, must dispel a deadly plot to wreck her clients’ wedding in this charming continuation of New York Times bestselling author Lynn Cahoon’s Kitchen Witch Mystery series.
Business is bubbling at Mia’s catering service and cooking school, Mia’s Morsels, but toil and trouble are not far behind. Mia just accepted her toughest gig yet: last-minute wedding planner for Magic Springs’ own Romeo and Juliet. Though the small town is fairly accepting of magic, two families have been locked in a vicious feud spanning generations. Unfortunately for both families, they’re about to become in-laws! Amethyst and Tok are excited to wed in a few weeks and somehow Mia must ensure the event is flawless.
But when she goes to pick up paperwork from the couple’s previous wedding planner, Mia discovers the woman murdered in an apparent attempt to stop the contentious union. Now, not only is Mia a prime suspect, as the new planner, but she may also be the killer’s next target. Backed by her squad, her charms—literal and figurative—and a protective amulet from her Grans, it’s up to Mia to save the star-crossed couple’s wedding, her professional reputation…and maybe even her life!

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Mia Malone is about to take on a huge job. She has been hired as a wedding planner for the first time and is taking over for another planner that was fired. It’s a big wedding too. Amethyst and Tok are seen as Magic Springs’ Romeo and Juliet. Their families have been involved in a feud for so many years some people don’t even remember what they were fighting about. Mia plans to give the young couple the wedding of their dreams and she knows it won’t be easy. The first order of business is meeting with the former wedding planner to find out how much work she has ahead of her. Then she needs to get the in-laws and their demands under control.
Turns out the first step wasn’t so easy as when Mia went to find the previous planner she was dead. It appears she was killed in order to kill the wedding. Since she found the body and benefitted from the woman’s death Mia finds herself at the top of the list of suspects. Who knows, she may meet the same fate since she is moving full speed ahead with the wedding plans.
Christine has been asked to step in for a bridesmaid who can’t attend. Trent and Levi become the girl’s bodyguards and Gran equips Mia with a protective amulet so that Mia can get the couple to the altar to say their I Do’s and fly away on their honeymoon and live to tell the tale.
I like my paranormal stories on the light side. I am not a fan of werewolves or vampires but witches like Mia and her Gran I could read about all day long. This time we meet some new “creatures”, the groom’s tribe. The groom’s brother was a little over the top but the rest of the family had pretty normal issues for being involved in a feud. I was very pleased by the way these families were portrayed, they were kept nicely in the cozy realm.
I love the core characters Ms. Cahoon has created for this series. Mia is still learning about her powers but she has a great teacher in her Gran. Both are strong independent women with huge hearts. Christina, the sister of Mia’s ex has moved in, works with Mia, and is attending culinary school. She and Mia have become best friends and work together so well. Trent and Mia’s relationship is really growing as is Christine’s relationship with his brother Levi. We were introduced to the guy’s mother when she pitches in to help and I hope we see a lot more of her.
Readers are treated to a great whodunit full of twists and turns, witches and wolves, murder and mayhem. My personal suspect list was pretty long but it did include the right guilty person and they moved up the line pretty rapidly the closer we got to the wedding. The ending played out realistically with a believable motive just with some very unusual participants.
I always admire this author’s writing style. She sets a scene with ease and delivers a unique story that is fun to read with engaging characters without falling into the trap of being overly wordy.
Three Tainted Teas was a charmingly delightful read. I can’t wait to visit Magic Springs again in late March when Four Charming Spells is released.
