The Twenty-One-Year Contract:
Sequel to Secrets, Shame, and a Shoebox
by L. B. Griffin
It is my pleasure to welcome L.B. Griffin
to Escape With Dollycas today!
Hi L.B.,
What are three things most people don’t know about you?
- I might not seem it but I’m shy along with imposters syndrome. I force myself out of my comfort zone, pretty much all the time while trying to appear confident.
2. My education was poor. I was often sick. Or taken out of school by my mother. I’ve been virtually deaf in one ear all my life. I couldn’t hear anything the teachers said in school as I hid at the back. So that didn’t help I began to teach myself and learn once I left school. Work was an education in itself.
3. I got a masters in Education by the age of 43. I did it part-time over two years while working full-time, and being a mother. I never had any idea how to write a thesis. Or what University expected of me. It was an interesting experience. In the end, I found I loved academia.
What books/authors have most inspired you?
Little Women. Louisa May Alcott.
Of Mice and Men. John Steinbeck.
A Small Island. Andrea Levy
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
Oh goodness. I love research. I get lost in it, for days. I want to get it right and find it so interesting. Though the research comes as I work and write the book. I stop and check it out, then write some more. I want it to be interesting, not forced.
Do you ever suffer from Writer’s Block?
Hmm. Just recently. I’ve been overwhelmed with what life has been throwing at me. I keep challenging myself. I always do. Asking am I good enough. Is it good enough? Am I wasting my time? I thank Lori for this chance to get to grips with something that takes me away from the issue. I’ve had to concentrate on something entirely different. Lori will never know how much she has helped me.
What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer?
Rejection is hard to take. Don’t give up on your dream. When you finish a manuscript put it away. Edit. Edit. Edit. Put it away and then re-read. Make it’ shiny as possible before you submit. Oh, yes, send it to publishers who are open for submissions in your genre. Apparently, publishers are flooded with, for example: sci-fi shapeshifters when they only publish encyclopedias. 😊
When you are not writing what do you like to do?
Read. Walk. See my children. Travel. See my friends. Go to fitness classes. I’ve put on a ton of weight since retiring and so unfit it is unbelievable. Maybe it’s an age thing?
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
Ah. So many places. Our world is beautiful. We were going to South Africa when covid broke out. I’m unsure if we are fit enough for that journey now, but I love the light it seems to have in the country. I like to paint. It looked like somewhere I could pick up a brush.
What is next on the horizon for you?
I would like to say if I had one wish, it would be to take my husband abroad. At the moment, with his condition, we are struggling for insurance.
I’m in the midst of a work in progress and have a few other stories up my sleeve. Hopefully, I’ll get my act together and finish the WIP within the year and see where we go from there.
One last thing from me. Lori. Thank you.
Thank you Lynn for visiting today!
Now keep reading for information about Lynn’s new book!

More About L. B. Griffin

It’s a poignant, disturbing and a heart-warming page-turner that has left me chomping at the bit to continue Harriet’s story.’
The sequel, and also standalone – The Twenty-One-Year Contract, is already receiving fantastic five-star reviews such as: VINE VOICE “This book will have you laughing, crying and cheering.”
