Journalist Rachel Davenport follows a tip to find an abducted teen but saving her isn’t going to be easy. With gunfire blazing she and the teen run through the woods to save themselves. They reach a cabin and rush in to find firefighter Pat Ryan and his K-9 rescue Bernese Mountain dog, Shadow. They have to move fast because the kidnappers are not far behind. To save themselves and the terrified teen, Pat and Rachel need to fight off the men and get to a safe place.  Will they survive or will the bad guys be more than they can handle?

The story opens with a breathtaking pace and doesn’t let up until the final page.

Rachel Davenport has been investigating human trafficking and one of the girls she interviewed has contacted her about another teen being sold soon. She knows she has to save her. I was impressed with Rachel. She didn’t really have a plan but she knew she had to try. A strong woman both in mind and body, she was all in.

Pat Ryan has basically been hiding in his uncle’s cabin. Injured in a tragic fire he has been recovering from his injuries and trying to decide what to do with his life but he has definitely put his life on hold. Then a woman and a teen come crashing through the door. They need his help and he willingly sets aside what he is dealing with to do just that. A strong man with many talents and friends who also leans on his faith to tackle this chaos he finds himself in the middle of.

Human trafficking is a huge problem everywhere and Ms. Alexander takes us inside one case. Her characters don’t know who they can truly trust but Pat hopes he has made the right choice when he reaches out for help. Both he and Rachel had to think on their feet during a chase that gave them very little time to plan anything. The dog was a true asset throughout the story and stole my heart. The author served up some really nice twists at the end, one I kind of expected but the other caught me totally by surprise.

The author plotted out a dynamic story that was impossible to put down. I easily read it all in one evening. What I love about Deena’s stories and others for this publisher is that the characters lean on their faith in God and that the romances are light. Both help to set up a happy ending after some truly traumatic events that test the characters faith and who they can trust.

Kidnapped in the Woods was a stellar read. I cared about the characters from page one and the pages were flying as I was along for the frightening ride as they tried to save their lives. Courage. Danger. Faith. This story doesn’t disappoint.
