Eat, Pray, Hex (Crescent Moon Mysteries)
by Tara Lush
I am delighted to welcome Tara Lush to
Escape With Dollycas today!
Hi Tara,
Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I always feel a little boring when I answer this question! My life is really pretty simple: I live with my husband and Shih Tzu in Florida. I started writing romance and now I’ve moved into cozy mystery because I find that I’m better at writing about murder than sex! I used to be a journalist and have covered some pretty wild things as a reporter. I enjoy baking, reading, and really bad reality TV shows (90 Day Fiance is my current fave).
What are three things most people don’t know about you?
- I grew up in California in the 1970s and my first concert was when I was four: the Grateful Dead (thanks, Mom and Dad!)
- I once met Patrick Dempsey (Dr. McDreamy) while covering a news story.
- I have vitiligo (an autoimmune disease that attacks skin pigment)
What books/authors have most inspired you?
Oh goodness! So many. Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, Anthony Horowitz. I also adore Ellie Alexander’s work.
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
I set all of my mysteries in Florida. For many years I was the crime reporter for a newspaper here, so a lot of my fiction draws on things I saw and experienced then. I don’t do a ton of research, but I do a LOT of plotting.
Do you ever suffer from Writer’s Block?
No. Being a former reporter helps with this — I know I have to write because it’s my job.
What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer?
Read widely in your genre. Spend six months reading a lot. That’s the most important thing in genre fiction, to know what the readers want and expect.
When you are not writing what do you like to do?
I love going to yoga, walking with my husband and dog, and trying new cookie recipes.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
I REALLY want to go to Japan to see the snow monkeys. I am obsessed with primates.
What is next on the horizon for you?
I’m writing the second book in the Crescent Moon Mysteries series. Also, my agent is negotiating a contract for a new series with a publisher!
Thank you, Tara, so much for visiting today!
Now, keep reading for information about Tara’s new release.

Step into the mysterious world of weird Florida, where surprises and spirits are as common as sun and sand…
Amelia Matthews never anticipated inheriting a hotel in a small southern town, but life’s twists and turns have led her to the Sunshine State. Under the hotel’s quirky, rundown façade lie haunting secrets—an unsolved murder and a restless spirit who keeps turning off the air conditioner. In the summer. In Florida.
From the moment Amelia reluctantly walks through the door of the Crescent Moon Inn, she embarks on an unwelcome spectral adventure. Her companions on this eerie journey include the sassy feline Freddie Purrcury, the overly enthusiastic and hilarious Liz with her New Age bookstore, and the charmingly handsome local historian, Oliver.
Then Amelia discovers her hidden psychic abilities. As spooky happenings escalate, she can’t help but wish for a few minutes of peace. And maybe a margarita.
She faces a decision: sell the inn and run, or embrace her new destiny as a paranormal sleuth. In this spine-tingling cozy mystery, Amelia Matthews unravels the secrets of the inn’s haunted past while navigating psychic powers, an ornery cat, and a quirky crew of new friends. If she doesn’t solve the mystery, she just might become the inn’s next ghostly inhabitant…
Join Amelia in a captivating, laugh-out-loud adventure as she embarks on a quest to uncover the truth, and you’ll find yourself immersed in a world where the line between the ordinary and the supernatural blurs.

5 stars! Great debut to this new paranormal, cozy mystery series! Eat, Pray, Hex is the debut novel in author Tara Lush’s new paranormal cozy mystery series, Crescent Moon Mysteries, and isn’t it great to have it launched on Friday the 13th?! From its fun premise to its engaging main character to furry (Freddie Purrcury!) and supportive new friends, I was hooked from page one.
