Summer returned to our area on Wednesday, it was in the high 70s making it really hard to stay at my desk. But later that day all thoughts about anything good were washed away by the mass shooting in Maine. When are our lawmakers going to start valuing people more than the money they get from the NRA and gun manufacturers? Not anytime soon, after listening to the new Speaker of the House. Just more “thoughts and prayers”. I watched Stephen Colbert Thursday night. At about 6:41 into his monologue, he took on the tragedy and he made some excellent points. You can see the video here, you can scroll ahead to the part I am talking about. My heart is with the people of Maine.
Kaden’s football team played in Round 2 of the playoffs Friday night. While it would have been a 3-hour drive there we were planning to attend with Daughter #1 but she let us know Friday morning that Remi had a fever of 102 and they wouldn’t be able to go. Mr Dollycas and I went back and forth all day. We finally checked the weather report at 1:30 and saw a cold front with high winds was blowing in earlier than planned, so we decided to stay home and watch the live stream. Frankly, the seats are so much better. It is warmer. And the bathroom is closer. But I don’t get my Kaden hug after the game and yelling at the screen without a bunch of other fans isn’t as much fun.
Kaden had a great game, he played a lot, made some key tackles, helped hurry the quarterback throw the ball away more than once, and on the last play of the game, he helped force a fumble and “almost” recovered the ball but time ran out. The camera didn’t have a good angle of the play but with the way he bounced off the field and the smile on his face I knew he was involved and he confirmed it when we talked. Thank you to our friend and fabulous sports photographer Jim Kelsh for getting some great shots of #74, our Kaden, aka Diesel.
Saturday meant Halloween here in town and the three littlest grands hit the town’s Halloween on Main for lots of fun and treats. Son #2 had some fun too. Here they are at the fire station.
Things of a bookish nature happened all week too. Reading, reviews, and book tours. It got hectic at times but I was able to get everything done. This week will be more of the same as we plan to hit the road for another long trip on Friday afternoon and Natalie has a basketball tournament right here in town on Saturday.

I haven’t read a coffeehouse mystery in a while. Glad to see they are still going strong. Football looks like a fun time.

I’m glad Kaden had a good game and enjoyed himself! Have a great week!
Mass shootings really make our legislators show their ugliest side (though the new Speaker of the House has more ugly sides than most people). Can the pro-gun people really see these murderers as somehow super-charged American boys? That’s how they come across.

Several Europeans told me they would love to visit America but they are afraid of all the violence here. It’s absurd to me that we allow people to buy assault rifles but we want to ban…books?
Congratulations to Kaden!
