Dollycas’s Thoughts
Following a short prologue we arrive on Bluestar Island 12 days before Christmas and the town has all kinds of fun events planned for its residents. But not all is shiny and bright. Mr. Blackwell is Scrooge year round but he is being extra Scroogey this holiday season by raising the rents on all the store properties he owns putting most businesses in dire straights including Melinda Coleman’s Seaside Bookshop.
Melinda has also been working to get the town medical center upgraded to a small hospital with more space, doctors, and services. Her father recently had a medical emergency and had to be taken off island because the medical center was not equipped to handle his issue. Thankfully, he made it there in time and is recovering nicely but she doesn’t want anyone else to go through what they did or worse someone not being able to be treated in time.
She and Liam Turner have become good friends. Liam has a three-year-old son, Tate. They are adjusting to life following the death of Tate’s mother. Liam has quit his job and now is quite the woodworker making custom furniture. He has taken a job working for Mr. Blackwell to restore parts of his home following some storm damage. He knows he only got the job because no one else wanted it. The man is demanding and threatens to fire Liam on a daily basis. Liam needs the money so he is trying to finish the job as fast as he can.
Everyone sees what a great couple Melinda and Liam would make but they just don’t see it. Can these 2 friends help each other with the chaos in their lives? Can these true friends find true love?
I escaped right into this heartwarming story.
Ms. Faye’s characters are genuine and true to life. They develop so well over the course of the story in believable ways. Melinda is a strong woman put in a terrible position for the greater good. Her actions throughout the story show what a huge heart she has. Liam is a great dad with a good support system. His life took a tragic unexpected turn and he is trying to deal with everything life is throwing at him. The town residents move in and out of their lives as people of a small town do. At one point these residents could have won an award for jumping to conclusions and catty behavior but that sadly does happen in real life too.
The story shines with hope, faith, love, sacrifice, and what could really be called a Christmas miracle.
I have not read the other books in this series but I had no trouble following along. With new starring characters in each story, they can each be read easily on their own. Life on Bluestar Island appears to be quite interesting and I want to know more so I hope I am able to visit again.
A Seaside Bookshop Christmas is a wonderful well-written small-town romance that is sure to put you into the holiday spirit. It could easily be made into a Hallmark Movie with all the cozy holiday feels. A Perfect Escape!

My Thoughts,
The cover spoke Cozy. As in just a warm sit-by-the-fire read.
I was beckoned. A few of my favorite things lured me to Christmas. Small town charm. A sweet romance and fun recipes at the end.
A perfect pre-holiday read cuz’ it really isn’t Christmas yet. But a read that speaks Christmas maybe even in July. I enjoyed meeting Jennifer Faye and her characters. I enjoyed the charming town.
A Hallmark movie in a book!
