HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!
The weather here has been downright balmy with highs in the lower 40s and upper 30s. The snow is melting and the sun has been shining. We may hit 50 this week! But I know Mother Nature can turn everything around in a snap. There is plenty of time for another big blizzard or two to hit. But I am enjoying the warmth and sunshine while they last.
The week had been going along fine, Mr. Dollycas and I working on our computers during the day, reading and watching our favorite shows, and playing with the grandkids in the evenings. Then Thursday, a little after 10 a.m. our internet, cable, and landlines went down. Our first thought was here we go again, Spectrum never did run us a new line but we hadn’t had any issues for a couple of months. My husband called Spectrum and learned it wasn’t just us, there was an outage and it should be repaired by 12:30. We decided to use our cell phones as hot spots to keep working until the internet came back. He was able to get his work cell phone linked to his computer pretty quickly. I couldn’t get mine to work at all. I also couldn’t post anything from my phone. The one message I tried to post on Facebook just sat there will a little spinning wheel. Mr. Dollycas’s work phone and computer block social media and his personal phone was just a glorified paperweight like mine, so he was no help.
12:30 came and went, called again and the message said everything would be up by 2:30. I confess, I went and sat in my recliner and read a book. 2:30 and then 3:30 came and went. Son #2 took a trip to the grocery store to pick up things to make for supper and he found out there was a major outage. The whole city and beyond was without internet, cable, and phones. Most businesses had closed early, people were complaining, some quite irate. He didn’t know how the store was operating, people were able to use their debit and credit cards but confirmation took a lot longer.
Mr. Dollycas’s work day ended and he started to prepare supper. Our future daughter-in-law whose cell phone is through a different carrier arrived to tell us what caused the outage. A farmer was digging a trench in his field and hit a cable line and came very close to puncturing a gas line. With the gas line being so close to the cable line extra caution was needed to fix the cable and it was going to take much longer to repair than they originally thought.
So, I remembered that Chita Rivera had died earlier in the week and it seemed like a perfect time to watch a movie. Son #2 helped me get the DVD player hooked up and I popped in my DVD of Sweet Charity and watched and relaxed. I love all the dance numbers but have never been happy with the end. When that ended it was back to my book.
Later when I had finished my book and everyone else was asleep I noticed our cable came back on followed by the internet about 45 minutes later. Then my cell phone started binging with notifications. U S Cellular had been down all day in our area too. I am not sure how both outages were connected but I was darn happy the services were back after being down for over 14 hours. So Thursday was a complete wash and I realized how dependent I am on my devices. I may need a support group.
Yesterday Son #2 and his family moved into their new place. It was fun to have them here. Now, the house sure is quiet. The good news is that they are still in the same town as us so will get to enjoy their company often.

Being without any communication for a day must have been really frustrating. I’m surprised that the don’t have better signage to avoid people digging up the cables like that. I hope they do better in the future.

Wow, it’s scary that one farmer can wipe out the internet for an entire town. I’m glad they got it fixed. Have a great week!
Almost hitting a gas line—whew! Very scary! I’m glad they were able to safely restore service.
Hope you have a great, if a sadly quieter, week.
What an adventure/misadventure! And you saw it through…proud of you. My week was dull by comparison, healing from foot surgery keeps me on the bed with my foot propped up. Thankfully, Ms. Billie, my 85 year old employee was able to keep the bookstore open Friday and Saturday. I shouted orders from the bedroom–she mostly ignored them. LOL
I kid you not that I went to leave a comment about how annoying that must have been without service or the internet (Like how did people call out for emergencies??) and my internet went out. lol! It was only for a few seconds but the timing was hilarious.
Looks like you have some good cozy mysteries on your list. I’ll have to check out your posts about the ones you’ve read.

OMG! I am glad it was only for a few seconds. I would hate to pass that problem on to anyone, LOL
I’d die without my internet connection, good for you holding on. (that baby sure is a cutie)
