From author Lena Gregory comes a hunt for more than just treasure…
Danika Delany is loving running her uncle’s old fashioned malt shop on eastern Long Island and putting her own modern spin on the treats they serve. Life is finally looking up for her! That is, until local billionaire Maxwell Crumbholtz dies and leaves his fortune in the form of a treasure hunt. Chaos descends on Watchogue, and Dani and the rest of the gang from the Coffee & Cream Café join the melee when they enter the contest, try to decipher the clues, and go in search of the treasure. But Dani digs up more than she expected when she discovers a dead body buried instead of a treasure! To make matters worse, a witness claims to have seen Dani at the scene of the murder. Now, instead of a four-billion-dollar payday, Dani is on the hunt for a killer.
Dollycas’s Thoughts
The Coffee & Cream Café is doing well with Danika Delany serving up a variety of sweet treats but the big news in Watchogue is the death of Maxwell Crumbholtz, a local billionaire. He intends to make his sons fight for their inheritance. He devised a treasure hunt and opened it to the public. Dani and her friends have decided to take the plunge and join the masses by entering the contest. They will all have to work together to decipher the clues and follow where they lead. Winning four billion dollars would be great for everyone.
The hunt barely gets underway when Team Underdog digs up a body instead of the next clue and her new relationship with “Detective Delicious” may end before it really gets started when a witness asserts Dani was there when the murder took place. Now she has to find the killer to clear her name, but she intends to continue the hunt for the treasure too.
Ms. Gregory has created such a strong group of core characters for this series. They are unique and engaging with smart dialogues. The situations they find themselves in run the gambit of fun everyday life to desperate times when they need to pull together. The characters continue to grow with each new book and throughout each story. I love Dani’s mother’s family dinners. Relatives seem to come out of the woodwork to attend and hilarity comes to the party as well. I admire that they do it more often than I ever could. Lining up family schedules is not easy.
With the treasure hunt, several new characters are introduced. An elderly couple, a gamer/YouTube star and his friends, a professional treasure hunter and his assistant, some TikTokers, and the Crumbholtz brothers. A well-crafted diverse group that was easy to keep straight, especially with them all being suspects.
The mystery was very well-plotted and with a large number of suspects it wasn’t difficult to employ quite a few red herrings. At one point or another, I thought every one of the suspects could be the killer. I was totally surprised until everything played out in front of my eyes at a sensational showdown. Something truly unexpected made my jaw drop.
Double Scoop of Murder is a fantastically well-written cozy mystery with wonderful characters and a fun theme. I highly recommend the entire series to cozy readers who love mysteries filled with family, friends, and ICE CREAM!! Scoop up your copy of Double Scoop of Murder today.

About Lena Gregory
Lena Gregory is the author of the Bay Island Psychic Mysteries, which take place on a small island between the north and south forks of Long Island, New York, the All-Day Breakfast Café Mysteries, which are set on the outskirts of Florida’s Ocala National Forest, the Mini-Meadows Mysteries, set in a community of tiny homes in Central Florida, and the Coffee & Cream Café Mysteries, which take place in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, New York.
Lena grew up in a small town on the south shore of eastern Long Island, but she recently traded in cold, damp, gray winters for the warmth and sunshine of central Florida, where she now lives with her husband, three kids, son-in-law, and four dogs. Her hobbies include spending time with family, reading, and walking. Her love for writing developed when her youngest son was born and didn’t sleep through the night. She works full-time as a writer and a freelance editor and is a member of Sisters in Crime.

~Christy’s Cozy Corners
I appreciated the twists and turns the mystery provided and was shocked by the dangerous confrontations.
With gasps and laughs DOUBLE SCOOP OF MURDER is a delectable treat.
~Cozy Up With Kathy
Laughter, ice cream, coffee, treasure, family, friends, romance, and murder. You might think at first glance that one of these things is not like the other, but you would be wrong because when master author Lena Gregory is at the helm, all the threads come together perfectly.
~Reading Is My SuperPower
This story features a solid mystery with excellent twists and some moments of true breath-gasping tension, that I just wasn’t sure who was the true culprit until the end! I will certainly return to this series for more.
~Sarah Can’t Stop Reading Books
Double Scoop of Murder was a wonderful continuation of the Coffee & Cream Café Mysteries. It’s the third book in the series written by Lena Gregory, and I’m hoping for more.
~Novels Alive
This was a fun cozy, with well-developed characters, and enough twists and turns to keep my interest. As expected from Gregory, she has all the components of a cozy mystery all wrapped up nicely. Although this is the third in the series, it was easily read as a stand-alone. Now, to go back and read the others.
