HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!
After a couple of good days, last Tuesday was especially hard. The nurse arrived to change the dressing on my PICC “peripherally inserted central catheter” and then couldn’t draw any blood for the weekly tests. So she did all she could to get blood out of my veins with no luck after several tries. Then later, when we tried to infuse the antibiotics, the line appeared to be plugged. We called the nurse, and I had the choice of going to the ER or waiting to see what happened the next day. She also ordered a vial of medicine that would open a blockage. It knocked me down, as my body failed me again. It was just so frustrating, and I had myself a pity party while trying to get everything done I needed to get done for the book tours. I didn’t go to the ER. I curled up with a book instead. That always gets me out of my own head.
Wednesday morning, the phlebotomist from the hospital came and got blood the first try from a place the nurse the day before tried and couldn’t fill a vial. The nurse stopped by to see what was going on with my line. She replaced the dressing again and changed the port tip, and voilà, it flushed perfectly and has been working ever since. I missed 3 doses of antibiotics, but they will be added to the end. We will see if it will draw blood on Tuesday.
Daughter #1 came for a visit on Friday. The people I saw last week forgot to write an order for the visiting nurse to change my bandages, so she was the perfect person to handle it, and she did an excellent job. She also did my afternoon infusion while Mr. Dollycas was doing other things. She had brought Remington with her, and when she went home, he stayed for the weekend. He has been playing his video games and helping Mr.Dollycas with his springtime to-do list. He has also been giving Daisy some much-needed exercise.
I still have to catch up on reviews and had hoped to make a big dent this weekend, but stuff just keeps getting in the way. I have a plan, I just need to execute it and avoid distractions.
How are you doing with what’s going on in the world? Last week was especially crazy and maddening. It is affecting me more than I thought. The man from Maryland and several others who have been sent to El Salvador “by mistake” and the administration doing nothing to bring them home, defying court orders, hurts my soul. The insider trading scheme/tariffs with people’s 401ks and other investments have lost so much money, while the rich made billions, about sent me over the edge. The Safe Act is nothing more than taking away a woman’s right to vote.. I hope it dies in the Senate, but if not, there will be a run on name changes and passports for those who can afford them. We are not in this alone and must continue to fight, but some days it seems like our paths are set and nothing will be done to stop the madness. Each new day brings a new terror.
How was your week?

Your summary of our nation’s debacle is spot-on! How could this happen?
Thank you, Lori, for sharing information about the Safe Act. I feel disheartened about my country. It’s easy to find people and places to blame, but it’s hard to find a way to move forward. I feel energized by my fellow bloggers who continue to share truth with us. Again, thank you.
Every day seems to bring some fresh hell…staying optimistic is very difficult…only one of my state Senator’s and state legislators is not in lockstep with that odious person…sighhhh
God luck with your medical things…
I’m glad you were able to avoid a trip to the ER. I hope future blood draws are easier. Hugs.
As someone who lives outside the US I find it absolutely horrifying to hear each new development as it occurs, and I am sure that we aren’t hearing everything!
Good luck with your treatment this week.
