HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!
We had a fun week!
Tuesday evening, we went to watch Natalie play a doubleheader. Her diamond was close to the parking lot, so it was easy for Mr. Dollycas to navigate with his walker.

Natalie pitched and played first base. The whole team excelled with their bats and handily won the 1st game.
The second game barely began, and the dark clouds began to move in. Everyone started packing up and heading to the cars when it started to sprinkle. Natalie’s mom was able to get me to our car, but as soon as I shut the door, the skies opened up and it poured, trapping my wonderful bonus daughter and Mr. Dollycas trying to get my wheelchair and his walker in the back as quickly as possible. They were soaked, as were several others.
The girls thought they could hang out in the dugout until it let up, but those clouds lingered, forcing them to cancel game two and run to the cars. Our trip home was intense, the rain was coming sideways and hard. Mr. Dollycas kept his eye on the white line marking the side of the road and the taillights in front of us. When we had traveled about 20 miles, the storm let up a bit, and when we pulled in our driveway, it was just sprinkling, so I didn’t get soaked. But not long after, the thunder rang out, and there was another downpour before it moved out of the area.
The bonus of the evening was getting to see and hold baby Rylynn. She is adorable and growing so fast.
She and her daddy made a getaway before all the rain rolled in.

Then on Wednesday, it was Remi’s turn. The boys play in a different park, and it is quite a trek to his diamond. We had put my scooter in the car, so I had no trouble, but Mr. Dollycas got his exercise. Plus, the boys only played 1 game, so he didn’t get the long rest he was expecting. Remi didn’t pitch this game, but he played 1st, shortstop, and outfield.
Sadly, only 3 sixth graders signed up to play rec ball this year, and there wasn’t enough room to move them up with the 7th graders, so the powers that be decided to add them to the 4th/5th grade team. I feel bad for these 3 boys, but they want to play ball and are rolling with it, and I am proud of them for that. There is a huge skill level difference, and a large height difference between a 4th grader and a 6th grader. This makes pitching harder because the strike zone is smaller, and the opposite when the other team is pitching to a taller player. At times, it looks comical on the field, too. I know the younger players will learn from the older ones, which is good. I just hope it doesn’t limit the older boys’ growth in the sport and that they don’t get discouraged. I also hope more boys sign up next year.
The rest of the week was pretty normal: book tours, writing reviews, reading, relaxing, and watching television.

I have watched Days of Our Lives as long as I can remember. There have been some fantastic and some cringeworthy episodes over its 60-year run, but last week was hard, and this next week will be hard as well. When a long-time cast member dies or is dying in real life, and they play a character is so beloved that you could never do a recast, a story has to be written to ease that character to its death as well. Drake Hogestyn had played John Black for 38 years in over 4,200 episodes. When he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he and everyone around him were optimistic. But when he knew he wasn’t going to make it, he went to the writers and producers and helped them plan John Black’s death. His true final appearance was on September 9. The show films 6-7 months in advance. The heartwrenching thing is that he was still alive when some of the episodes we are seeing now were filmed. He died on September 28, 2024. The cast members were dealing with losing their friend in real life while filming his television death. Following Drake’s death, they all filmed tributes showing the world he was even greater than we thought he was. Now, watching these episodes more than 6 months later, you can see the raw grief they were all living with. It is palpable. I waited to watch all 5 episodes together, and I cried like a baby. He famously told everyone to “swing for the fences” often. The man loved baseball. I hope he is hitting homers on that baseball field in the sky.
HOW WAS YOUR WEEK?
Weekly Rewind – June 2 – 7, 2025
Monday – Emilie Khair
Plus – Gayle Leeson
Tuesday – Lie In The Tide (A Little White Lies Thriller) by Holly Danvers #Review This was a hard review to write.
Friday – He’s to Die For: A Novel by Erin Dunn #Review @MinotaurBooks #HesToDieFor
I think my mom watched every episode of Days of Our Lives. I bet it was terribly sad to see a longtime character pass away.
It’s great that you are able to see the kids play ball this summer, though it’s never fun to get drenched.
Mysterious Case of the Dogwalker looks good. Hope you don’t get any storms, especially in Florida around the hurricane time!

My mum was a big fan of Days of Our Lives! I do remember John from some of the episodes we heard or saw.
Have a great week!
I haven’t watched Days since college. It’s impressive he was able to act for so long before he passed away.
