HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!
It’s always something. Since my arm surgeries back in March, I have been super careful with that arm. I wear an arm sleeve almost 24/7, and when I leave the house, I add an elbow pad to shore up protection. A week ago, last Wednesday, I noticed a blister had formed right near the top of the incision. We quickly covered it to protect it from the sleeve. On Friday afternoon, the blister burst, releasing a significant amount of clear fluid. I thought, ‘Here I go again; the fix only lasted four months.’
I sent a message to my infectious disease doctor first, and he replied that since the liquid was clear, the antibiotics he had me on were working. The wound was not infected, but I should message the hand and arm surgeon’s office to see if he needed or wanted to give any instructions on how to proceed with wound care. They replied right as their office was closing that I needed to come in on Monday.
We enjoyed our weekend and called early Monday morning for an appointment. They would squeeze me in at 1 p.m. We immediately thought I would see them and be sent to the hospital like last time, so I packed a bag and grabbed my Kindle and its charger. We arrived at the office, and after a short wait, we were taken back to a room. The nurse barely looked at my arm and said the doctor would be right in. And he was. It was the plastic surgeon who did the muscle flap procedure to build up my elbow. I had expected an associate, so again, I thought the worst.
Instead, he looked at it, pressed around on it, and explained that this happens sometimes when they move things around under the skin. As the muscle he moved makes itself at home, pockets can form, and those pockets can fill with fluid. When it has nowhere else to go, a blister forms, and when it fills to capacity, it bursts. While he couldn’t guarantee that he wouldn’t have to go in at some future date, he was very confident about his work. So, no hospital. He instructed Mr. Dollycas on how to properly pack and bandage the wound. He then left and returned with supplies for us to take home, and said we could have a video chat in about 3 weeks. It will take time to heal, but we see progress already.
It was a rough week for celebrities; we lost Ozzy Osbourn, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Connie Francis, and Chuck Mangione. My kids are wrestling fans, so they feel the loss of Hulk Hogan. My heart broke when what I thought was confirmed, Chef Anne Burrell, took her own life. They have all left great legacies behind.

I can imagine how relieved you were to learn that this issue was part of the process, without serous consequences.
So very good to hear the blister/burst is nothing to be concerned about!
Preopare a bag every time you go to the doc and you’ll wind up not needing it! 🙂
Yes, we were sad about Ozzy. I am glad the doctor feels confident, and i will send healing thoughts.
I am glad that there was nothing seriously wrong with your arm.
Have a great week!
