What Lucy Heard: A PIP Inc. Mystery
by Nancy Jarvis

I am delighted to welcome Pat Pirard from the PIP Inc. Mystery Series to Escape With Dollycas today!
Hi Pat.
Describe yourself. I’m 35 (sometimes I think going on 8 when it comes to dressing in disguises), have a quirky way of thinking about things, am fiercely loyal, love my pets and friends almost as much as my new husband, and have green eyes which compliment my strawberry blonde hair. I’m trying to tone down my love of bling, but if I didn’t have to look serious to get hired or can’t clank on the job, I might have three bracelets on each wrist, wear a necklace or two, and have several rings on my fingers.
What makes you laugh? My BFF Syda’s quest for her artistic muse and my cat Wimsey (named after Dorothy Sayer’s character Lord Peter Wimsey) when he thinks he deserves more attention than he’s getting never fail to make me laugh.
Are you afraid of anything? I’m afraid of lots of things but most people don’t know that about me because I don’t act like I’m afraid of anything.
Do you have a special talent or gift? You mean other than being a crack shot with my 357 Magnum? I would have to say being logical and wholeheartedly believing the Sherlock Holmes line about after eliminating the impossible what remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.
Do you have a secret? Yes, but it’s a secret so I’m not sharing it with you.
Who is the most important person in your life? Human or furry? My new husband Tim is the most important person in my life (sorry Syda) but please don’t make me chose between my Dalmatian, Dot, and my ginger tabby, Lord Peter Wimsey.
What is your most embarrassing moment? Oh. Gosh, there have been so many, but the one that comes to mind right now is dressing up like old ladies so Syda and I could slip into a trial I had been forbidden to attend and then having to admit what I had done in front of an entire courtroom when I was called to testify.
What do you do for fun? Eat, bake, hang out with my pets and my BFF Syda who is always up for anything, but mostly I like to do anything that lets me spend time with the man in my life.
If you could change anything about your life what would it be? I’d probably still be the Santa Cruz County Law Librarian with my own parking place…no. Much as I loved my job, I’m having fun doing what I’m doing now and I never would have met my husband if I hadn’t been downsized.
Tell me about your author. She’s a friend of mine. She says I tell great stories and has asked me to write like she does. Unfortunately, I’ve tried, but get nowhere, so we have agreed to collaborate with me doing the talking and her doing the writing.
Do you like the way they write you? I do because I have a lot of input on me. I’m based on a real person but I had conditions for my author using me. For example, I always wished my eyes were green, so I told her that if I was going to help her write me, that was a deal breaking requirement, Fortunately, my author was happy to accommodate me.
Thank you, Pat, for visiting today.
Keep reading for more info about Pat and the new mystery she is trying to solve.

Pat Pirard, Santa Cruz Law Librarian newly turned private investigator, is asked to help with jury selection. She has one condition before she agrees: she must meet the suspect and believe he’s innocent. The accused’s story about how his fingerprints got on the murder weapon and why he was at the murder scene seems so outlandish that he convinces contrarian Pat he must be telling the truth. But as she listens to testimony during the trial she fears she’s been duped and is helping a killer get away with murder. Pat’s life turns into a race to solve the crime before the jury reaches a verdict.
About Nancy Lynn Jarvis

Nancy Lynn Jarvis wore many hats before she started writing cozy mysteries. After earning a BA in behavioral science from San Jose State University, she worked in the advertising department of the San Jose Mercury News, as a librarian, as the business manager for Shakespeare/Santa Cruz, and as a Realtor.
Nancy’s work history reflects her philosophy: people should try something radically different every few years, a philosophy she applies to her writing, as well. She has written seven Regan McHenry Real Estate Mysteries; six PIP Inc. Mysteries; a stand-alone novel “Mags and the AARP Gang” about a group of octogenarian bank robbers; edited “Cozy Food: 128 Cozy Mystery Writers Share Their Favorite Recipes,” and short story anthologies, “Santa Cruz Weird,” and “Santa Cruz Ghost Stories.” She also has an ebook on Amazon, which she keeps adding to as she writes more short stories.
