FATHER LOST, CHILD FOUND delivers a twisty-turny plot until the very last page.
Dollycas’s Thoughts
Twenty-four years ago, Galina-Elizabeta Ivanofโs father was killed in an oil rig fire. Someone who knew her father had a strange message read for Galina at his funeral, which sends her on a journey to find the truth.
On a bicycle trip from Hua Hin to Phuket, Charlotte Wyatt-Harmon gets a huge surprise when someone leaves a baby in her basket near Myanmar’s border. She vows to find the child’s mother.
Journalist Mason Murray is feeding his interest in crop circles, studying the true cause of the phenomenon. Are they created by extraterrestrials?
Can these 3 investigations be connected? Can these amateur sleuths get to the truth? And will they be able to handle everything they uncover?
This book, like the previous, Alone with a Tasman Tiger, was pitched to me as an Australian Cozy Mystery, and I learned then that the story had cozy mystery elements, but it was so much more. Father Lost Child Found lives up to that as well.
Galina-Elizabeta Ivanof was on a Survivor-type show in Alone with a Tasman Tiger. It was there she met her boyfriend Seb. They have recovered from that adventure and are ready to embark on a new one when Galina received the call to come home to Tallinn, Estonia, for the funeral of a family friend. It was there that the information sent her life in a different direction.
Charlotte Wyatt-Harmon was introduced in the first book in the series, An Extraordinary Wedding, a book I still need to read. In this story, she travels to Thailand for a cycling adventure with a friend until that friend leaves Charlotte to hop on a yacht with some other friends. Charlotte soon finds herself with a new traveling companion.ย Mason Murray is another friend caught up in the adventure when his research takes him close to where Charlotte is traveling.
Ms. Ellyson’s characters are very interesting with different strengths and weaknesses but ready to take on everything that is thrown at them. The author twists each of the three plotlines together with an expert hand, drawing the reader in with the turn of each page. Surprises lead to exciting, at times, edge-of-your-seat conflicts. Galina faces the most as a shocking revelation occurs, followed quickly by a strange introduction. At times, my heart broke for her.
Politics and science fiction add to the original mystery storyline. I do not usually read anything in the science fiction genre, but Ms. Ellyson’s unique plot twists had a strong hold. The concept was so interesting. It made this reader stop and think. Sometimes, stepping out of your normal box is a good thing. This was a very good thing.
Father Lost Child Found is a quick read with a brisk pace and only 236 pages. The author packs those pages with international travel, intrigue, suspense, appealing characters with their own personal struggles, along with fascinating visitors from somewhere far, far, away. For me, it was another Perfect Escape from Jane Ellyson. If you are game for an unpredictable read with compelling twists, I recommend you give yourself a gift of Father Lost Child Found. It reads on its own easily.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC.
