HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!
It was a rough week around the world and in the US. Filled with chaos, corruption, and sadness, I was afraid to tune in to the news on television or the internet. Kicking off last weekend with a mass shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, on Saturday that killed two people and wounded nine more; a mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, during a Hanukkah celebration that killed 15 people and wounded 40 others; and then on Sunday the news that beloved filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer and producer Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their home from knife wounds. All were horrific, but the reaction and posts from the man in the White House, especially about Rob Reiner and his wife, were callous and cruel. He continued the week by adding his name to the Kennedy Center and giving a national address full of lies. Our country deserves so much better.

I watched the Rob Reiner special on ABC. What a tragedy. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy, including his work on political causes important to him and all of us. His movies were legendary. Do you have a favorite? It would be hard for me to select just one.

The cozy mystery world was also rocked by the passing of author Dorothy Howell on Monday.

We also lost former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle and his family in a plane crash in North Carolina on Thursday. Following his racing career, he was known for his humanitarian efforts.

Gil Gerard, best known for playing Buck Rogers, passed away on Tuesday. And Anthony Geary, Luke from General Hospital, passed away on Tuesday, too.
Here at home, in addition to working every day, we dealt with another blast of frigid temperatures, have almost finished our Christmas shopping, and enjoyed time with our new grandson, who turned 10 weeks old yesterday. His highlight of the week was meeting Santa. My reading focus was to complete as many reading challenges as I could.

I finished the week by jumping on the AI bandwagon to create a holiday picture of myself. Oh, to look this good every day.

I enjoyed your post! My wish is that Christmas week is a good one!!
Your photo is lovely! AI can do some wonderful things.
I am thinking every day about this quote from Robert Pirsig in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance: “I think that if we are going to reform the world, and make it a better place to live in, the way to do it is not with talk about relationships of a political nature, which are inevitably dualistic, full of subjects and objects and their relationship to one another; or with programs full of things for other people to do. I think that kind of approach starts it at the end and presumes the end is the beginning. Programs of a political nature are important end products of social quality that can be effective only if the underlying structure of social values is right. The social values are right only if the individual values are right. The place to improve the world is first in one’s own heart and head and hands, and then work outward from there. Other people can talk about how to expand the destiny of mankind. I just want to talk about how to fix a motorcycle.”
Wishing you and yours a very merry Christmas
It was a very sad week to say the least.
Love your pic!
Merry Christmas!
There was indeed a lot of sad news this past week, though there were also some bright spots, most notably the response of many people to the tragic events. In Bondi particularly, first responders and medical personnel converged from as far as several hours away to ensure that the hospitals and operating rooms were fully staffed, and the bravery exhibited by individuals during the attack is inspiring. (I take Mr. Rogers’s injunction to “Look for the helpers” to heart; it’s how I try to balance or counteract the horror and despair such attacks engender.)
You have been dealing with some really cold temperatures up north! Not to mention snow. I wish you could send some of that here to the Southwest, where we need it!
I forgot to say: Have a very merry Christmas!
Definitely a rough week! Hope this one is better.
