HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!
We had a jam-packed weekend last week. In addition to playing on her school and community recreation sports teams, Natalie tried out last year and earned a place on the roster for a traveling softball team. They play and practice year-round. They had their 1st tournament last weekend at the Woodside Sports Complex in the Wisconsin Dells. There were 2 softball fields set up in the dome, one a little smaller than the other. The tournament started Friday evening, with their second game starting at 9:30! We were so glad we had booked a hotel just down the road. There was another game Saturday afternoon.
While the team didn’t score any wins, they did very well for playing their first games together as a team, going up against talented teams that had played together a lot. Playing indoors on rough turf is so different than playing outside. It was a real learning experience for everyone. We are so proud of Natalie. She is the only one from her area on the team. She attends practice on weekends and on school days after she has basketball practices or games, and does this all while being an excellent student. Practices require a drive of about 45 minutes, so adult commitment is required as well. We are excited for the next tournament.

Then on Sunday, Remi played basketball at home. All the boys played great. They have grown in their abilities and are so much fun to watch. They won the first two games handily, and lost the 3rd, but not by much. Nana got in trouble for looking at her phone and not the game for a moment, when a ball hit me in the shoulder. I was fine, but it’s rough when the referee and former school teacher you have known forever gives you a good talking to. 🙄

So proud of Remi and Daughter #1, who coaches the team. She was a fine player, and she is a fantastic coach.

Wisconsin, like a lot of the nation, was hit with the Arctic Blast this weekend.

Early Thursday morning, we were awakened to a furnace that wasn’t working. It had happened before, and then it was just a matter of relighting the pilot light. This time, when the landlord arrived, he found the blower was not working. He left to get parts, and by late afternoon, everything was fixed just in time for the outside temperatures to drop rapidly. Schools and businesses closed, and events were cancelled. We are near Fond du Lac. As you can see, our area topped the charts. I think some southern states even had snow!

Then yesterday, there was another senseless murder in Minnesota, and the thugs at ICE and the President are again telling us not to believe our eyes. “Alex Jeffrey Pretti was a registered nurse with NO CRIMINAL RECORD and only a few parking tickets to his name. He was an athlete and an avid outdoorsman. He was a brother and a son. He worked for the VA, where he cared for veterans’ health. He was an ICE observer who was legally filming the ICE agents’ actions when he was stopped, detained, DISARMED, and THEN shot several times by ICE agents. Alex had a legal permit to carry a firearm, and multiple videos of the killing clearly show that he did not draw his weapon or brandish it at ICE agents. He was ONLY filming when they approached him, and was ONLY holding his camera (cell phone). ICE agents had taken his weapon from its holster BEFORE they shot him.” I just learned he graduated from high school in Green Bay, Wisconsin, which brings it closer to home, and still so heartbreaking.
This, on top of all the other cruel and atrocious things ICE did the rest of the week and before, not only in Minnesota but also in other states, too. Enough is enough. This has to stop!

I agree with you, it has to stop. There is a video clearly showing that Alex Pritti was shot in the back.
Oof, glad the furnace was fixed pretty quickly! Not the kind of weather to do without it.
The situation in Minneapolis is awful; one of my close friends lives there, and I worry. Gotta keep hoping somehow the tensions will ease and people will be safe.
I’m glad you got to see you g-kids play sports this week. We were supposed to go see ours play next weekend, but I’m not sure if the weather will be good enough for us to travel so far. We shall see.
I am horrified by the violence of people who are working for the federal government. And I cannot understand the thinking of those who continue to support these people.
Love all the sports you got to watch. I agree with you on everything going on in Minnesota.
I’m glad the furnace was fixed before that weather hit, you obviously have a decent landlord.
Well done to your grandkids on their sporting prowess, it’s lovely that you take the time to support them.
Wishing you a happy reading week
A friend in Atlanta was surprised to see now on her front steps, driveway, and in the streets! The last time that happened was several years ago. Keep warm!

I meant snow, of course, in Atlanta!
