Dollycas’s Thoughts
We are back in Normal, Kentucky, just in time to celebrate the grand opening of the Old Train Station Motel at a Hoe Down. It was fun until the power was knocked out by a lightning storm. Mae West found herself in a heap of trouble when looking for treasure from a map she found. Instead of a treasure, she falls right on top of Jay Russel’s dead body.
The Laundry Club has taken on the case, which makes Mae’s boyfriend, Detective Hank Sharp, very unhappy. They are determined to catch the killer whether he likes it or not.
It is always fun to return to Normal and catch up with Mae, Betts, Abby, Queenie, Dottie, Hank, and the rest of the fine eclectic group that inhabits the small town. Ms. Kappes has created a marvelous cast of core characters for this series. They are always up to something.
In this story, Mae stumbles over another dead body, and no matter how much Hank begs her to leave the investigation to him, she just can’t let it go. She goes so far as to withhold information from him, and it could put their whole relationship in jeopardy. After a few twists and turns, Mae finds herself up close and personal with the killer. A great take-down followed for a very satisfying conclusion.
Hitches, Hideouts, & Homicide was a fun addition to this series. I know I may never catch up on this series, especially with #43
