HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!
We were dealing with high temperatures again this past week, with the added bonus of smoke from the Canadian wildfires. We spent many hours in the Hazardous Range. Sometimes it was hard to see too far down the block. The air quality was better on Friday evening and the weekend, but we are still under air quality alerts, with Monday being another high alert day. While dealing with the smoke is unhealthy and a hindrance, it is nothing like what our friends to the north are facing. I pray for everyone dealing with the fires, the lost loved ones, and the loss of property.
Monday evening, Charlotte played her last softball game of the season. It was fun watching these little girls play and learn the basics of the sport.
On Tuesday, I met with both my oncologists, and they agreed I am doing great cancer-wise. The visits were bittersweet, though, as both are leaving Wisconsin for points west at the end of the month. One to Washington State and one to Wyoming. They both saw me through one of the hardest times of my life, and I will be forever grateful to both of them. My treatment started during COVID, which complicated everything, but we worked through all the ups and downs. My disability added some challenges, but I never felt like it hindered my care. They saw me for who I was, not my paralysis. They understood what I was dealing with and helped me cope.
The radiology oncologist released me from his care, although if I ever have any concerns, I just have to call. I have to keep seeing a medical oncologist to keep receiving my anastrozole for a few more years, so I am being transferred to a doctor here in town. I will see her in January.
In addition to these wonderful doctors, their nurses are excellent. The hugs I received today meant so much. Sara and Stacy were there for me when the tears were falling, and the side effects were scary. They were just always a phone call away, too. I appreciate the time they always had for me, no matter the subject. The good news is that they are staying, and will be working with the new oncologists, and will still be just a phone call away.
Trips to the cancer center have been part of my life for 6 years. The place is truly full of angels. It was hard saying goodbye. More than a few tears were shed.
Friday evening, Daughter #2, Korbyn, and I traveled to watch Natalie play softball. They had lost their earlier game 1 -3, so we weren’t sure what to expect for the evening game. Well, the girls were on fire. Everyone was hitting the ball hard, and their work in the field was excellent. Natalie pitched the final inning, and she struck her first three batters in a row to end the game with a score of 18-3. It was their best game of the season.
Mr. Dollycas joined us Saturday morning, and again, the ladies were there to win. Natalie again pitched, and her teammates in the field had her back. They won again, 9-4. Their final game on Saturday did not go their way. The opposing pitcher was very good. Our girls were held to just 5 runs. Truthfully, in this heat, all the teams playing in this tournament should be applauded. We were under the shade of trees and canopies with an occasional breeze blowing through, and we were melting. They had to play in full uniforms, in the hot sun, and exert themselves for 90 minutes, with warm-ups in between the games. Oh, to be young again.

We are dealing with smoke from the Canadian wildfires too, and it’s just started to let up a bit. This happened last year too and I am fearing it will continue each summer!

I definitely feel ya with air quality. Here in Utah we have had constant fires since early June. But I was expecting it when we haven’t had hardly any snow in a couple of years. Hope you have a good week.
I’m sorry about the poor air quality though it doesn’t seem to have stopped your girls games. I’m also glad to hear your health is still stable.

I really hope we are done with the smoky air. It’s nice to hear that you were well cared for during cancer treatment. It’s nice to have some good memories of a very, very difficult and scary time. Nurses at cancer centers are *the* best!!!
