Spring has sprung in the Rocky Mountains, and Clear Creek is celebrating the arrival of the new season and increased tourism with a host of events — including a special cooking class taught by Jemma’s good friend, Chef Leandro.
When a knit-wit chef barges into Leandro’s kitchen insisting it’s now his, sparks fly between the two. It seems that everyone wants the new chef gone, but no one expects Jemma to find the man stabbed through the heart.
Leandro’s knife skills — and his argument with the dead man — make him the obvious suspect. But Jemma’s ready to cross needles with the Sheriff and anyone else who tries to place the blame on her friend.
With the killer’s eyes on Jemma from the start, she needs to weave in the ends before things unravel!
Dollycas’s Thoughts
It’s Spring in Clear Creek, and with tourists soon to arrive, many events have been planned. Jemma has the idea for a cooking class taught by Chef Leandro. They are good friends, so the extraordinary chef happily agrees.
Then, a chef arrives with the crazy notion that Chef Leandro’s kitchen now belongs to him, and tempers flare. After an explanation is revealed, arrangements are made accordingly, but no one is happy. There are many people who would like the new chef to leave town. When Jemma finds the man dead, a knife through his heart, everyone appears to be surprised. Leandro tops the suspect list due to their conflict, but Jemma stands firm that her friend would never kill anyone. She knows it’s up to her to unravel this mess and save Leandro, but the real killer is close; she needs to knit the clues together fast.
Opening this book was like walking in the front door to visit some good friends. Jemma is now running the yarn shop she inherited from her grandmother and is also very involved in the events happening in Clear Creek. Her relationship with the Head of Security for the resort, Brandon, is now on firm footing. Now that they are engaged, many are anxious for them to set the date, especially Granny. Her friend, Chef Leandro, is very talented, engaging, and down-to-earth. He is happy to share his knowledge in the cooking classes Jemma arranges. Of course, Jemma still has “abysmal cooking skills”.
Clear Creek is a small town in the Rockies that is becoming a popular tourist destination. Ms. McKinnon’s detailed descriptions bring the town and its residents to life very well. It is so much fun to virtually visit, sans the murders. It is somewhere I would love to visit in person.
The murder of Chef Declan Carter had more suspects than I originally thought it would. The killer was crafty in stealing Chef Leandro’s knives and using one as their murder weapon, but Jemma didn’t let that deter her. She knew her chef was innocent. She followed the clues and was threatened because of it, but she wasn’t giving up. Brandon wanted to keep her safe, as did her friend, Sheriff Matthew Chase. I loved the meetings held to compare notes, theories, and ideas. The showdown was made even more exciting by the weather and waves. I found that I was actually on the edge of my seat. Jemma was a much better person than I probably would have been. I am also happy that she has so many good people who care about her.
In Skein Sight is filled with wonderful characters who have become a close-knit unit. Together, they take on a tangled web of a mystery. Ms. McKinnon has treated her readers to a well-plotted and well-written story. The ending has me hoping I won’t have to wait too long for book #6.
