Welcome to Cozy Wednesday!
This week is a little different as the book I am featuring is for your children or grandchildren.

Hi Wendi,
Welcome to Escape With Dollycas.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
My motto since I was seven has been the Rolling Stones song, ‘Ruby Tuesday.” I decided to “Change with every new day.” I try new things. I started writing in the divorce field which changed to helping those people date again I became a dating coach and still host singles events. I worked in the schools and volunteer with a cat rescue group which led to the Jack Jack The Cat series.
I am also a hypnotherapist and nurse. I like doing new things such as playing the drums and sky diving.
What are three things most people don’t know about you?
I seek out adventures globally and am writing a book about them. One was almost being kidnapped to be a man’s “third wife.”
I used to have a morbid fear of public speaking. I would have pounded a nail in my hand to avoid that. Now you can’t get me off the podium and I do speeches internationally.
I don’t have a good boundary when it comes to animals and birds. I feel their pain and could never work in a vet’s office.
What books/authors have most inspired you?
I was in third grade when I began reading mysteries and became hooked. I particularly like the British and Scandinavian ones. Those inspired me to write The Adventures of Margo, Girl Detective.
I also get into Jane Austin novels. With my psychology background I like reading that genre. I have been to many Buddhist shrines and read his teachings and the Dahli Lama’s.
What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
The amount of research varies. For the Jack Jack The Cat and the Yellowstone Adventure I spent a year studying wildlife, their migration patterns and pestering the Fish and Game Department for how a cat could escape wolves etc. For The Adventures of Margo, Girl Detective I had to see what fossils could be found in Ohio. I went to London and interviewed the Metropolitan Police and the War Office for several cases in Margo’s sequel.
Do you ever suffer from Writer’s Block?
I don’t know if I get it. I have inspiration which comes in waves. When I’m stressed or tired, plots don’t come as easily. Sometimes it’s like an explosion in my brain and my pen can hardly keep up with my ideas.
What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer?
Decide if you want a traditional publisher or to self-publish. You may have to submit manuscript to several publishers. JK Rowlings was turned down 35 times by publishers for her first Harry Potter manuscript.
Get feedback from friends before submitting. One friend told me that Margo was too perfect and kids would not identify with her. I added the chapter Margo Gets Fired.
When you are not writing what do you like to do?
I like to travel internationally which helps inspire my writing. I enjoy being out in nature – whether in a forest, exploring ruins in Agkor Wat, or in my garden.
I love animals whether on safari or petting my cats. I hang with friends, go to concerts, coffee whatever.
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
I would go to hard-to-get places. Timbuktu has intrigued me for decades. When I was a child, I heard the song “Katmandu” and decided to get there sometime in my life. I’m glad I did and it was well worth it. I want to go back to Morocco. It’s the setting for my next Jack Jack The Cat book and I have some more research to do there.
What is next on the horizon for you?
Hard to know what is next on the horizon. The universe provides unexpected opportunities and I grab them. I will be volunteering later this year in Ukraine.
Thank you, Wendi, for visiting today! Wow! Volunteering in Ukraine! Be safe
Keep reading for my thoughts about The Adventures of Margo.

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Channeling my inner 10-year-old as I embark with Girl Detective Margo on her adventures. Margo does have a talent for finding lost items and animals, digging up treasures, and explaining the unexplainable. She finds the answers that the older folks in her neighborhood are looking for and is usually pretty quick about it. Her friends, Alice Brown and Bhini Patel, are always up for tagging along.
Wendi Schuller has written a story perfect for young readers. Margo is a great role model, always wanting to help people. She is wise beyond her years. I read this book on my Kindle Fire so I could see the wonderful illustrations created by Maryia Kapitsa that I would have missed on my Paperwhite. They are beautiful and bright. I wish there were more.
In my generation, it was Nancy Drew; this generation has Margo Scott. I am hoping the author writes several books featuring this young, spunky girl detective.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC.

Your Escape Into A Good Book Travel Agent

Wendi Schuller loves mysteries and devoured Agatha Christie ones at an early age. She enjoys going to where they took place or were written, such as Egypt or the Seven Dials in London. Her new series, The Adventures of Margo, Girl Detective, have many cases to solve with the help of two friends.
Wendi Schuller is a globe-trotter by nature, having travelled to over sixty countries and jungles on three continents. She got the idea for her children’s book Jack Jack The Jungle Cat in Cambodia on one of those trips with her children. Combine her love for jungle habitat and animals with a career that expanded on her innate compassion for family, children and all living things – and you have a recipe for Jack Jack The Jungle Cat. Her first published book – The Global Guide to Divorce – was written in response to the need of many families to negotiate divorce with the least amount of trauma as possible. Wendi is a nurse, a Neuro-Linguistic Programmer, and a hypnotherapist.
