HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

Yesterday was the big day. I received my COVID 19 Vaccine. I was fortunate to receive the Johnson and Johnson brand so after just 1 shot I’m done. I do have to wait 2 weeks for the vaccine to be fully effective. They had a mass event at the clinic. My appointment was for 11 a.m. and I was the 627th shot of the day. The event was to continue until 4 p.m. They really had an excellent set-up. It took about 40 minutes including the 15 minute wait time required after receiving the shot. Daughter #2 was my driver/wheelchair pusher for the day. Sadly she was unable to get an appointment for herself but hopefully, she will soon find one that will work with her work schedule. Her brother and sister still need to get vaccinated as well. I will continue to wear my mask and social distance as recommended. We are all in this together, and these vaccinations are what we need for our lives to start to get back to normal. Everyone should now be eligible or will be soon. Try to gets yours as soon as you can.

I had an appointment with my oncologist last week and he says I am doing great with just minor side effects from the drugs I am on. I questioned him about my energy level because I still tire easily as I try to do normal things. We both agreed my paralysis doesn’t help but he reminded me my body has been through an ordeal and to try to push myself a little more each day but not to get upset when my body can’t keep up with what my brain wants to do. It is nice to get a pep talk and check in with him every few weeks and catch up with the fantastic people at the cancer center.

Other than that is was a pretty quiet week around here. Book tours, reading, blogging, and television filled many hours. I also continued unpacking and was thrilled to find the box with my pants in it. I also found 2 banana boxes full of books that were never unpacked at the last house. Several full series of older cozy mysteries. There is no room here for them so I have to decide if I want to save them, give them away, or list them on PaperbackSwap.

Did you have a good week?

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

Happy Easter!

i am so glad to have March in the rearview mirror. I miss Kris every day but his birthday and the day he died always are hard. The pandemic makes it worst because we can’t get together as a family to celebrate his life. With vaccines now available I hope next year we will be able to get together again. Of course, moving didn’t help either and it brought along all its own stressors.

On the vaccine front, Mr. Dollycas got his 1st shot on Thursday and I have an appointment on April 10 to get mine. Baby steps to get our lives back on track and the new normal.

In addition to blogging, reading, and book tours this week I spent quite a bit of time unpacking but there is still much to do. I am trying to eliminate one bookshelf and it isn’t easy. I also thought I was more organized with my packing and I am quickly seeing that wasn’t the case. I know I packed my pants and jeans in a box but so far I haven’t found that box. I am sure it is here somewhere.

How was your week?

~Lori

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

Moving has been quite an adventure. There was a little mix-up last week with our internet/cable provider regarding scheduling. Our calendars said the technician would be here Saturday at 11 a.m. Their schedule showed Sunday at noon. Not sure how that happened but it meant no post like this last week.

Because of my and my husband’s physical limitations, Son #2 has had to do most if not all of the heavy lifting. We have been slowly moving the last couple of weeks and finally stayed at the new house last Sunday night. Sadly, we still had a lot of stuff so the moving continued all week. This weekend we moved to cleaning the old place and getting the garage emptied. Yes, we moved a lot to the house 7 years ago but left a lot behind.  We purged quite a bit again with this move. We filled a dumpster and our trash containers but there always seems like there is more junk to throw away. Tuesday is the day we have to be completely out of the old place. Son #2’s girlfriend arrived home from visiting family in Florida Friday night. That girl is a force and she is on a mission so I know she will lead the charge to get us out on time. While it wasn’t perfect I am going to miss that house. We had made it our own over the years and it does hurt to leave it. March is always hard on me and this year was made tougher with this move but I turned the whole thing over to God. He has a plan and we are where we are supposed to be. I hope his future plans include a home we own with a walk-in bathtub and a porch with fewer steps 🙂

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

This was a week spent packing and purging. We will be adding painting to the mix too. We are getting excited about our move and just anxious to get in and get settled. I personally have not seen the inside of the place yet, just pictures and videos so that may be why I am a little stressed out but am just so thankful we found a place.

This week also included my first post-surgery mammogram. I really needed to see a clear scan and that didn’t happen. The radiologist just said we would do another one in 6 months. I met with my oncologist the next day and he stated the mammogram showed some areas to watch but I shouldn’t worry anything there is likely to be benign and the Verzenio I am taking is to stop reoccurrence. Since then the radiologist’s report has gone up on My Chart. Reading it myself helped a lot. While there are some mildly suspicious areas they were unable to get all the magnification images they wanted because I was shaking while standing due to my paralysis and loss of strength due to the cancer treatments so hopefully that will improve six months down the road. So I am going to take my wise friends and family advice and “keep positive thoughts” and let it go until my next scan.

This weekend also starts my worse time of the year. I really hate March and would skip the month if I could. March 13, 2020, I received my breast cancer diagnosis. March 14, 2001, was the accident that left my right side paralyzed. March 15, 2015, we lost our son Kristopher to suicide. Then smooth sailing until Kris’ birthday on March 29. I will be so happy when April Fools Day rolls around.

Good News! We found a new place to live this week. It was beyond frustrating that none of the apartments returned our calls and I was getting worried. Then Daughter #1’s significant other sent us info for a lower level of a house not far from where we live now and we jumped on it. The landlord received several responses but he ultimately chose us. The place is about the same size as the house we are in now but everything is on one level which is better for us. We will be painting a few rooms before we move in because the former tenant had an autistic child and the colors are a little bright for us. This weekend the packing and purging began with all the kids and grandkids helping. It’s going to be a busy couple of weeks. We are so grateful to have found a place and that we will be able to meet our current landlord’s schedule for us to be out of here. Thank you for your support and prayers, I know they made a difference.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

This was an extremely stressful week. On Wednesday we received notice from our landlord that the house we have been renting since May of 2013 has been sold and that we need to be out by March 30. We had no idea the place was even for sale.

The past few days we have learned there is a housing shortage in the area and rental selections are slim. There are no houses in the area for rent at all that we can afford so we are looking at apartments. That means doing a major purge of our belongings while hoping we get accepted for one of the apartments we have applied for. For those of you that have followed forever, you may remember we ended up here because we lost our home, a home that was built by us with the help of friends, family, and church members, to a predatory leader and never received any relief. We then had to move within a 3-week timeframe and were blessed to have found this house which was far from perfect for us but we have made it work over the years. It is taking everything I have to go through this again. We are leaning heavily on our kids.

I know I have asked a lot of you this past year with my cancer fight and I hate to ask you for more but if you pray please pray we find a new home and for the strength to get through this difficult time. If you are not a pray-er, good vibes are appreciated too. Right now the stress comes from the uncertainty. I hope by next week we have a new address and a plan.

Thank you.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

A Week in the Life of Dollycas

It was a busy week around here. In addition to book tours, blog work, and reading some good books our week started Monday with Daisy Mae’s first trip to the vet. She has doubled in size since she became part of our family a month ago. She wasn’t happy with the shot and nasal vaccinations but after a few sleepy hours, she was back to her energetic self.  We just love those ears!

Then on Friday, Daughter #1 arrived with the boys so we could teach her how to do her own taxes in the future. She was a fast learner and after a couple of hours was on her way home with Kaden. Remi stayed for a sleepover with Daisy.

I stayed up late Friday night until almost 2 a.m. reading A Side of Murder by Amy Pershing. So Saturday morning I had my first Book Hangover of 2021.

About noon Son #2 arrived with Charlotte and granddog Thunder. Time for the tax routine with him. He had a few new things to cover but soon his taxes were e-filed. They stayed for a nice visit. Daughter #1 arrived to take Remi home but stayed for a while too. A short time later we peeked into the living room and captured this shot. Papa’s lap is always the best place to nap for Charlotte and Thunder.

Everyone has now gone home. The house is quiet and we are contemplating what to make for supper. With one more day of the weekend left you never know if it will be a quiet Sunday or one filled with family. I do believe some of it will be spent on Daughter #2’s taxes and fun times with Daisy. I will also be at the computer working catching up on the things I set aside yesterday to enjoy the most important things in my life, my family.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

I am listening to the wrap up of the impeachment proceedings while I type this and am so frustrated. I wonder if a member of Congress was injured or killed if that would have changed some votes. McConnell admitted that Trump was responsible but because he was out of office he couldn’t be convicted and went on to say Trump still could be held responsible by the courts. I hope and pray our justice system takes this up and nails that man to the wall along with all of his co-conspirators. Off my soapbox.

The weather here is still cold and blustery but I had to venture out on Thursday for bloodwork and a follow-up with my oncologist. All my numbers are good. I am still working on getting my strength up so I can throw my walker to the curb especially for the short distances around the house. I am upset because I have gained back all the weight I lost, the only good side effect of chemo. The doctor said that can be due to the meds I am on. I told him I thought it was because food tastes good again. We had a good laugh. He has scheduled me for a mammogram next month and another appointment with him the next day along with more bloodwork. I said I was excited about the mammogram because until I can see with my own eyes the tumors are gone I can’t believe it. He then said he was optimistic about that . . . SAY WHAT . . . after all I have been through they better be gone. So now I am pessimistic and nervous.  I am now counting the days. My mammogram is scheduled on the exact same day and almost the exact same hour, 1 year later, than the one the showed the original tumor. I don’t think I can handle a repeat of that experience.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE!

It was a quiet week around here. My heart broke on Thursday when I learned a friend I had had since grade school passed away after suffering the past few years with ALS. I wish we had gotten to spend more time together but I have some great memories that span the years. My sympathy goes out to her family who lost her much too soon.

Snow was the highlight of the week. We had several inches fall both Sunday and Thursday so of course, our snowblower refused to start. Son #2 came to our aid on Sunday. On Thursday when Daughter #2 arrived home from work she couldn’t get the car in the driveway due to some nice drifts. She grabbed a shovel and started making a path while waiting for her brother but then this amazing man on a riding snow blower came down the street and asked her if she would like him to make a few passes for her. She was very happy to say yes. He made quick work of it and soon her car was in the driveway. Our son arrived shortly after but since the snow was still coming down heavily he decided to wait until Friday to clear the sidewalks and front porch. Now all the snow has been cleared and the frigid temperatures have set in. I think I would rather have more snow. LOL

I hope to find the wonderful man with the snowblower so I can thank him too!

Daughter #1 dropped by for a short visit on Friday and she not only had Kaden and Remi with her but Charlotte and Thomas too. She had the day off and took Thomas shopping to pick out a birthday present. Of course, Miss Charlotte tagged along.

As soon as they were out the door, Miss Natalie arrived to spend the weekend with us. She spent her time playing with the puppy, watching movies with her aunt, playing with the puppy, baking brownies with Papa, giving the puppy a bath, hanging out with Nana, and oh yeah, playing with the puppy. I swear she has grown 6 inches since Christmas. It is always such a joy to have her in the house. We always have fun and the weekend passes too quickly.
