Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

snow

Typing this on Saturday afternoon as we are waiting for the real first big snowstorm of the year to hit tonight and tomorrow. Mr. Dollycas has the snow blower ready to go, but I am worried about the roads as my daughter will be traveling back and forth to work tonight and tomorrow. She is the one that was in the accident last March during on a very blustery day and is a little nervous. Her dad may become her designated driver. As for me, I will be cuddling up with a cozy or two.

Speaking of cozies, I have to mention the number of books coming from Berkley/Penguin Random House for January is only 5 books. This from the company that used to release 15 – 20 cozies a month. The past year we have seen series cancelled in record numbers and very few new ones being added. Thankfully several authors are finding new homes at other publishing groups. Small firms or publishers that used to take a back seat to the powerhouse of cozies from Penguin. They are reducing their number of traditional mysteries and suspense as well, only 7 coming in January. Not sure what their reasoning or strategy is but it is a bit scary. I feel bad for both the authors and the employees that are being hit hardest by these decisions. If you want to stay up on the series coming, continuing or being cancelled be sure to visit the Save Our Cozies Facebook Group. It is a group of authors and fans of cozy mysteries.

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

christmas_online_shoppingI keep finding myself distracted at the computer these days. I do 90% of my Christmas shopping online. This year due to everyone’s schedules we are not having our immediate family celebration until January 7. I have found several bargains, in fact I impressed myself with my shopping at J.C. Penney yesterday for my oldest grandson. I saved over $200 before my Ebates and Swagbucks plus earned store rewards.

I am done shopping for my youngest son and husband too. Mr. Dollycas received 1 gift early, a new recliner. The girls are a little harder to shop for and I keep thinking since we are celebrating so late this year should I wait on some of their the grandkids gifts and shop the after holiday sales. I keep going to sites and filling my carts but just can’t push the “place order” button. I am definitely overthinking this as I keep leaving my blog and tour work to check “just one more place” or “look one more time”.

Before my accident Mr. Dollycas and I would grab our lists and do all the shopping in one day and then have a wonderful dinner out. These days he isn’t as mobile and I clog up the aisles in my wheelchair so we can no longer divide the list, head in different directions like we used to. Plus with me having only one working hand all the wrapping falls into my youngest daughter’s and husband’s laps, so I just shop, shop, shop, and they take care of the boxes and bags that show up at the door. Of course my daughter shops too and has her own stuff to wrap. At least this year they will have a little extra time 🙂

P.S. If you not signed up for  Ebates and Swagbucks I encourage you to do so. It is so easy and I have earned cash back and points for gift cards the last few years that allowed me to get extra gifts or something just for me.

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful week. Mr. Dollycas, my two youngest children and I were joined by my oldest grandson for Thanksgiving and the weekend. It was a pretty quiet weekend for us. I did take all day Thursday off from the computer and read and binge watched How To Get Away with Murder. Spent the rest of the weekend catching up a few things on my blog and reading. Of course I spent plenty of time with Kaden, he always brightens me day. As I type this I am listening to the Wisconsin Badger game. The Packers have had an awful start to the year and am hoping they do better this week.

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

We had our first snowfall in Wisconsin yesterday. Started the morning in the high 60’s, then the wind picked up like crazy and a bit of snow overnight which mostly melted after the sun came up. I just ignored it and hope it doesn’t return for a while 🙂

craving-for-cozies-button-2017-3002017-alphabet-soup-buttonIt is that time of year when we readers try to finish our yearly reading challenges and start to plan for next year. There is a blog, A Novel Challenge, that has always been by go to place for seeing what challenges everyone is hosting but the blog has not been updated for about a month. Hope is it just a temporary issue and they start posting again soon. Does anyone know of other blogs that keep lists and info on Reading Challenges?

I will be hosting 3 in 2017. The Alphabet Soup Challenge and the Craving for Cozies Challenge are both ready for people to sign up. I will also be hosting a Literary Escapes Challenge – Reading 1 book from each state plus the District of Columbia and some books set abroad to complete the challenge. The announcement and sign up should be up before the end of the month. I hope you will join in on the fun.

As far as this year’s challenges I have finished a few and working hard to finish the rest. Why is this year going so quickly? 🙂

I hope you had a good week, it was definitely an eventful one! Don’t worry no politics here 🙂 The weather was nicer than I had expected, didn’t even need a jacket when I went to vote on Tuesday. My grandson turned 9 yesterday. Hoping to see him in person today but he has had an awful stomach flu the last few days. What a way to spend your birthday. I am looking forward to another busy week of blogging, book tours and reading.  What do you have planned?

Fall Back

I am a Spring and Summer person. No matter how hot we can find ways to cool off. Jump into a pool, crank up the air conditioning, wear as little as possible still staying appropriate. During the Fall it is not too bad, but when Winter comes in Wisconsin I can never seem to get warm, the cold gets into my bones. No matter how many layers of clothing, or blankets I wrap up in, or the hot beverages I drink I am always cold or at least chilly. The winds bites, the snow falls and daylight is in shorter supply. I wish I could afford to head South for the winter but that is far out of reach. I am hoping for a mild winter and that it passes as quickly as Summer did. They say in Wisconsin there are days or weeks when you can experience all 4 Seasons temps no matter what the calendar says.. I know that to be true, so I am hoping for a little warmer winter this year. Snow is great but for me it could Snow anytime between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day and then bring on Spring!!

I wish I didn’t live so far away from our grandchildren this time of year. I love seeing them in their costumes and we had many more trick or treaters at our old home. That was such a small town we knew many of the children and their parents. That is not the case here. The problem is Mr. Dollycas still buys as much candy as he did there and that leaves way to much for us to eat. 🙂

litcoinsI have recently discovered Reader’s Legacy. Reader’s Legacy is a revolutionary social media site for authors, publishers and book lovers. As ‘the largest book club in the world’, and with over 3 million books for sale. Think GoodReads on steroids. You can build a library, follow friends, connect with authors and so much more. You also can collect LitCoins that you can use to buy real books for free!! They have videos to help you get everything set up and you can even import your books from GoodReads. It is another place to connect and can be linked to your social media accounts. I am just getting  things set up and already have 30 followers. I am still getting used to the “Read Feed” and finding my way around but I really like that we can earn LitCoins and buy books for things were are doing on other sites. Check it out just click here.

Daughter Lizzie and Granddaughter Natalie

I think summer ended much too soon, I am not ready for this chilly weather but last weekend we made a trip to a nearby apple orchard and this weekend we are baking. Apple cupcakes, apple crisp, and more. My granddaughter is here for the weekend. Even 19 months after my son’s death the 15th of ever month is a day filled with sadness. When that day falls during the work week there is not much we can do but when it falls on the weekend we try to get together and do something to lighten our grief. Her being here this weekend has kept us on our toes and busy. Kris is still on our minds but having fun with his little “princess” makes the day brighter. Now I know I have recipe for Apple Kuchen with Rhodes bread dough on the bottom and custard on the top, I just need to find it 🙂

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

kaden-10082016

I took the day off yesterday to watch my grandson in a flag football tournament. It was chilly and windy, so much so that us spectators faces are still red with a little windburn but it was a wonderful day. This was not a school event but a recreation program that has grown by leaps and bounds since my own children participated. On 4 small fields the first and second graders along with the 3rd and 4th graders played true flag football, each alternating the fields, across the the way the 5th and 6th graders were suited up for a little more contact type of football and even a little way beyond us the were more kids playing soccer. No trophies were given out for anything and the kids were all having a great time and so were the adults. Us adults were cold but the kids kept plenty warm running up and down the fields. Kids of all abilities were playing together, each taking turns in a fair way so everyone has equal playing time. Both sides were cheered on from the sidelines. Oh and both girls and boys were playing together. There was no discrimination by gender or talent. These kids played together and there were winners and losers and while the scores were recorded that was not the focus of the day. The focus of the day was having fun and teaching skills not only needed for football but life. With what has happened in the political world this past week, and from one candidate in particular since the campaign began, it was a breath of fresh air to see these events yesterday. We have a great country where our children learn not just in school, but in recreation programs and by the examples they see around them. The coaches are all volunteer and have a passion in seeing the kids succeed. Is that what we all want? In a times when school budgets have been cut and programs cancelled what I witnessed yesterday was just a small example of what people can do for the good of others and I was very proud of the possibilities my small home town offers.
