Sunday Salon/Sunday Post – More Cozy Cuts – Weekly Rewind – Mail Call

The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an informal week in review
gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

book-1It broke my heart this week to learn that Penguin Random House did another slash and will not be continuing even more cozy series. Series by Ellery Adams, Diane Vallere and Hannah Reed are the newest ones on the chopping block.  I looked ahead on Amazon and instead of the 12- 15 cozies they have been releasing the past few months, which was a drop from the 20+ they were releasing each month before, they will now only be releasing about 8 per month month. It is frustrating too when the authors tell us sales for the books had been good. It makes me wonder the criteria for choosing which series’ to cancel.

Cozy mysteries seem to be very popular and the fans are loyal. Thankfully some of the authors are finding new publishers or deciding to try self publishing. For me personally after I read about these characters for even just one but certainly 2, 3 or more books, I become invested in them and get frustrated when I don’t know how everyone ended up. When the first purge started one author, Julie Hyzy, was able to “end” her White House Chef Mysteries to give her readers closure. I wish more authors were able to do that. This whole phase shows just one way book publishing is changing.

Remembering Daddy
Remembering Daddy

A busy week ended in one of hope. Our family took part in the Prevent Suicide Walk for Hope on Saturday. The Walk ended early due to rain which was taken a couple of ways by different walkers. “Tears from heaven” Tears for renewed hope” plus the “It’s just rain” 🙂 A year ago we walked in a larger Out of Darkness walk and most of us were still numb. This walk was smaller and more personal and I enjoyed the featured speaker, Deeatra Kajfosz, Founder of LiFE OF HOPE and Suicide Attempt Survivor. She talked about Life beyond Suicidal Thought, Behavior, and Action. It gave me a little insight and food for thought.

After the walk Kris’ daughter and her cousin came to spend the rest of the day with Nana and Papa. Movies, video games, baking, taking silly pictures. A perfect way to end the day!

Did you have a good week? Mine had its ups and downs. I felt really drained after doing all the suicide prevention posts on Facebook and Twitter last week. But one of my wonderful nieces shook up my perspective a bit with just a few words and that really helped. I also read a long awaited book from my favorite suspense author, Home by Harlan Coben, it is an excellent read. My review will be up on Tuesday.

Today is a double “we remember” day for me. It is the anniversary of the that terrible day in 2001 that took so many lives and changed so much about our nation. It is also the last day of Suicide Prevention Week where people who have loss someone to suicide remember and try to raise awareness about suicide in an effort to #StopSuicide – Suicide takes over 42,000 lives each year. It has been a rough week for me and so many others impacted by both of these things.

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

Come hell or high water I was not going to miss seeing Bret Michaels at the county fair. The high water was a concern when woke to thunderstorms in the morning, it cleared off in the afternoon, and then lightning and thunder started during the last few songs, but we had time to visit with people and get to our car and out of the park before the rain started to fall. We had such a good time. I also have a new more comfortable wheelchair so back pain was minimal, o.k. I did take a little pain medicine before.

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

There was a big celebration in town this weekend. The TRUCK N’ SHOW. All kinds of trucks can be seen up close at the Community Center Grounds. There are 2 parades. The first one on Friday night all the street lights are shut off and the trucks all have their’s shining brightly and the air horns blaring. Mr. Dollycas took the boys down to watch and Kaden took several pictures.

Saturday there was another parade that featured trucks and motor cycles but the boys chose to go to the pool instead. Sadly I stayed home from it all, resting my back and trying to get caught up on blog and book tour pages. If my back keeps improving we may be able to squeeze in a Family Fun Day yet this summer.

Are you watching the Olympics?

This year current and previous residents of my hometown of Columbus, Wisconsin are tuning in to watch Heather Miller-Koch. She grew up there and was not only on the track team but played basketball too. Now she is representing the United States in the heptathlon in Rio. Columbus is a small town of about 5,000 people and the words of her high school coach say what all of us are thinking. “For a community our size and a program and a school our size, to say that I’ve coached an Olympian and we have an Olympian from Columbus, I think that’s the amazing part,” Hensler said. “I’m very proud of that fact. That I get to say that I coached Heather Miller.”  Good Luck Heather!

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

Kids-Cooking-cooking-with-kids-118032_291_263It was a full week around here, watching the political conventions the past 2 weeks took away the relaxation I usually find on night time television so I will have some catching up to do. In addition to a few dramas I usually watch I find myself watching MasterChef, Chopped and Chopped Junior. The kids on Chopped Junior  and MasterChef Junior continue to surprise me. When I was their age I was lucky if my mother allowed me to heat up a can of soup on the stove. Listening them talk about flavors and their palates and seeing their creativity is so much fun to watch. It encourages me to get my grandchildren more involved in the kitchen. They tend to try different things when they help to prepare the meals. Plus it is something fun to do together.

Happy SUNDAY Everyone!

19503
Well this was an interesting week. First thing Monday morning I was off to the doctor for my lower back pain and was diagnosed with sciatica. Given a variety of medications, shown some exercises, that are hard to do with one side, the sore side, mostly paralyzed, and was told swimming was a good thing to help me through this but could also have been what caused it. You may remember a couple of weeks ago I told you I was able to get back into a pool after 16 years. Using muscles that have not been used a lot lately.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week was rough, needed to take the big pain pills and spent limited time at the computer. By Thursday was feeling better and am working the schedule advised of 2 hours at the computer followed by 1 hour of rest. I will be continuing that schedule for awhile but will still try to get all my blog and tour work done. I did miss my Flashback Friday post this week just because I ran out of time but it should return this week if I continue to improve with no major relapses. Fingers and toes crossed.
