Sunday Salon – Sherlock – Weekly Recap – Mail Call

The Sunday Salon.com

The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an informal week in review
gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

So Happy Sunday Everyone!

Sherlock napping in the recliner.

Sherlock Update: My kitty came home from the vet Monday afternoon. He was having trouble just moving. He was just like me, his right side wasn’t cooperating and he kept falling over. Fast Forward to today. He is walking around still favoring his right side but tipping much less often. He is jumping off the bed and into the recliner or window seat. He takes his medicine every morning and is eating like a champ. He is even wanting to play. Thank you for all the prayers. He is definitely on the mend.

Now let’s hit the books! Here’s my recap of my week!

Monday
Monday’s Music Moves ME! Got rockin’ with Bon Jovi!
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? I revealed the book I just couldn’t finish.

Tuesday
I reviewed On the Island by Tracy Garvis Graves. I am giving my review copy away!

Wednesday
Cozy Wednesday brought author Jenn McKinlay to visit. She takes her characters on a road trip in Red Velvet Revenge (Cupcake Bakery Mystery). We are giving away 2 copies!

Thursday
I reviewed Play Him Again (A Matt Hudson Novel) by Jeffrey Stone. This was a fun read!

Friday
I reviewed Plotting at the PTA by Lauren Alden. This is a fun cozy series set in Wisconsin in a fictional town not far from where I live.

Saturday
I reviewed my Just For Fun book for July, Swapping Paint (Stock Car Racing Mysteries) and the second book in the series too Hooked Up. The are by Joyce and Jim Lavene and had been on my wish list for quite awhile. Loved them and they went straight to my keeper shelf.

The Lazy Days of Summer Giveaway Hop goes through Wednesday so be sure to check it out.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!

Sunday Salon – Sick Kitty – Weekly Recap – Mail Call

The Sunday Salon.com

The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an informal week in review
gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

So Happy Sunday Everyone!

My Regal Assistant

My writing assistant is not by my side today. Sherlock got outside during that terrible heat wave and must have picked up some kind of bug. He wasn’t eating very much and by Thursday he was not eating anything  or drinking much at all. He is a smaller skinny cat to begin with but when he got to the vet on Friday he had lost 1.3 pounds since his visit there in June. They are keeping him hospitalized through the weekend to continue to give him fluids and force him to eat. Morrie and Watson are trying to help out in his absence but frankly they just want to sit on the keyboard and have their bellies rubbed.

By the way we did get a little rain last week but still need much more 🙂

Now Let’s Talk Books! Here’s A Recap Of My Week:

Monday’s Music Moves Me is celebrating it’s 99th week tomorrow with a huge party planned for Week 100! Last week’s theme was “Gone but not Forgotten”.

As always Mondays include It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? This is the first time in a long time I had a book I COULD NOT FINISH. I’ll share which one in tomorrow’s post.

Tuesday I reviewed Land of a Hundred Wonders by Lesley Kagen. I absolutely love the way she writes and brings characters to life.

Cozy Wednesday brought Liz Lipperman for a visit. Her new book Beef Stolen-Off (A Clueless Cook Mystery) is a must read for every cozy lover. There is still time to enter the giveaway. There are 2 copies!!

Thursday Helga Zeiner was my guest. She is touring with the Partners In Crime Virtual Book Tours for her book Section 132 Imprisoned In A Polygamous Sect This is a fabulous read and I recommend it highly! I am giving away 1 e-book copy. You can find out about future tour stops here.

Friday I reviewed Gone: A Novel by Cathy Hanauer. I was a bit conflicted about this one. I think it would be a good book for a book club. It could provoke quite the discussion.

Saturday I reviewed the latest installment of one of my favorite series. How to Dine on Killer Wine: A Party-Planning Mystery by Penny Warner. That Presley Parker takes us to the most interesting places.

There are also two Blog Hop Giveaways still happening. The No Strings Attached Giveaway Hop ends tonight. The Vacation Read Giveaway Hop goes through Wednesday.

New Arrivals

I hope you all have a wonderful week!!

Sunday Salon – Rain, Rain, Come This Way – Recap – Mail Call

The Sunday Salon.com

The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an informal week in review
gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

So Happy Sunday Everyone!

My granddaughter was baptized last Sunday so I was away from the computer most of the day. I hope to have a picture to post soon.

The heat has subsided here a bit but we still need rain badly. A quick shower passed through yesterday about 7 a.m. but much more is needed. Our grass is brown and all the crops in the fields look awful.  The drought in Southern Wisconsin has officially been classified as severe. The area farmers are really feeling the pain. The are feeding their livestock like it is winter because the pastures are dying. The corn crop is in jeopardy as well. The normal summer treat of  fresh sweet corn is just not available unless you want to pay the high prices in the grocery store for corn that has been trucked in from elsewhere. We had a mild winter with hardly any snow and now a summer with hardly any rain.  Water restrictions are in place all over and there are even wells going dry.  We are over 6 inches of rain behind what is normal for this time of year.  Mother Nature is definitely testing us.

Now let’s talk books! Here’s my blog week:

Monday means the normal memes. Monday’s Music Moves Me! and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

On Tuesday I reviewed My Father at 100: A Memoir by Ron Reagan. I think the author learned a lot about his father writing this book and it was an interesting read.

For Cozy Wednesday this week I featured Pies and Prejudice (A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery) by Ellery Adams. This is a brand new series and I am giving 2 copies away.

Thursday I hosted the Virtual Book Tour for Lost Girls by Caitlin Rother. I didn’t know much about this story or that the book was causing such an uproar because the family did not authorize its publication.

Friday I reviewed Murder on the Half Shelf (A Booktown Mystery) by Lorna Barrett. This is the first book in this series to come out in hardcover.

Saturday I reviewed The Wicked Wives by Gus Pelagatti. The book is based on a true story from the 1930’s.

I always love this week. Most of the cozies coming out in August have arrived!!
Plus some other books I Can’t Wait To Read.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Saw this on Facebook this week and it just cracked me up!
Happy Reading!!!

Sunday Salon – Week in Review – Mail Call

The Sunday Salon.com

The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an informal week in review
gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

So Happy Sunday Everyone!

How has the weather been where you are? Here is Southern Wisconsin the heat and humidity has really been oppressive.

We did take our grandson to the local 4th of July parade on Wednesday. It was only about an hour long instead of the usual three. Too hot for any animals and didn’t see even one clown. Just a few floats, tractors, fire trucks, the local high school marching band and a few Zor Shiners.

This was not from my town but you get the idea.

The rest of the week has been spent indoors, staying out of the heat and staying cool.

Last night I had a nice treat. I got out to see Magic Mike with my daughters, niece and sister-in-law. Fun was had by all.

Last week was a slower pace on the blog front with the holiday and Mr. Dollycas home everyday on vacation. He had planned a bunch of outdoor work but it was just “too damn hot”.

Here’s my blog week:

Started out the week on Monday with Monday’s Music Moves Me! This is a fun meme conducted by Xmas Dolly, co-conductors Stacy from Stacy Uncorked, Lorie from The Shewbridges of Celebration, and Callie at Jamerican Spice. We start out each week dancing in our seats. This meme will celebrate its 100th week in just 4 weeks. The hosts are holding a huge giveaway and are always welcome to new bloggers joining the party.

Monday also means It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? Hosted by Sheila at Book Journey”. This is my favorite meme. I love getting around and seeing what everyone is reading.

Tuesday was New Release Tuesday. So many new books came out including a bunch of new cozy mysteries, my favorites.

Cozy Wednesday moved to Thursday this week because of the holiday. Joelle Charbonneau was my guest. Murder for Choir (A Glee Club Mystery) starts a brand new series. You can still enter the giveaway to win a copy.

Friday was the start of the Summer Reads Giveaway Hop. The Hop runs through Wednesday.

This would be the perfect place to “Escape Into A Good Book”.
I hope you all have an awesome week!

Sunday Salon – Always Learning – Weekly Recap – Mail Call

The Sunday Salon.com

The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an informal week in review
gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

So Happy Sunday Everyone!

Have you ever gotten your blog set up just perfectly and then something stops working?

That happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I found out my wonderful Beach Holiday theme was no longer covered by technical support from the creator and the last few times WordPress updated things with my theme stopped working.

This week with a lot of help from a very patient wonderful person I upgraded my theme. I tried to keep basically the same background and relaxing feel. All the features are working and while I still have much to learn.

It just means we have to keep learning new things everyday.  For me than means learning more of the technical working of blogs and reading wonderful books every day. I hope you will leave a comment and let me know what you think of my new theme. Any tips or hints are always welcome too!

Besides working on the technical stuff I had a good content week as well.

Monday meant my normal memes. It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? and Mondays Music Moves Me!

Tuesday I reviewed Ocean Beach by Wendy Wax. It comes out this Tuesday and is a perfect escape beach read!

Cozy Wednesday brought one of my favorite cozy authors Julie Hyzy by for a visit. She talks about her love affair with Marshall Fields.

Thursday I hosted the Virtual Blog Stop for All He Saw Was The Girl by Peter Leonard. I do enjoy this author’s writing style.

Friday I reviewed Nose for Trouble by Doranna Durgin. This was a fantastic cozy. It was originally released in 2005 and it has been updated and was re-released this past April.

Saturday I reviewed Quilt or Innocence by Elizabeth Craig. I will admit I didn’t like some of these characters at first but the story pulled me through and I can’t wait to read the next installment.

This was also a big week for special events. I am taking part in the Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon. I am not doing as well as I had hoped as my time keeps being diverted away from reading, but I hope to finish strong today.

I am also involved in two Giveaway Hops. The Midsummer’s Eve Giveaway Hop runs through Tuesday and The Literary Blog Hop goes through Wednesday.

There are also 4 more giveaways listed on my Current Giveaways Page.

These are both for review later this summer.

This looks like my kind of place!

I hope you have a fantastic Sunday and an awesome week!

Happy Reading!

Sunday Salon – Happy Father’s Day – Weekly Recap – Mail Call

The Sunday Salon.com

The Sunday Salon used to be a meme but was getting so huge it became unmanageable, so it is now a Facebook group that has become an informal week in review
gathering place for bloggers.

It is also a place to share our thoughts about things of a bookish nature.

So Happy Sunday Everyone!

My dad passed away back in June 1988 just two weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. I will enjoy my memories today. It will be a relaxing day with the kids making their father’s day special!! I will be reading and watching the NASCAR race.

How are you spending the day?

Another busy week!

On Monday I returned to a meme that I had taken a short break from. Monday always start out better with a little music and Xmas Dolly hosts Monday’s Music Moves Me. With her co-conductors they orchestrate a virtual dance party every Monday. She is planning a big celebration to celebrate the 100th week just one week from tomorrow.

I also start off each week with Sheila at Book Journey with It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? Sheila celebrated her three year blogoversary last week! Congrats Sheila!!

Tuesday I welcomed Tara McTiernan, author of Barefoot Girls. They is still time to enter to win a copy of her book.

Cozy Wednesday brought Alyse Carlson by to tell us about her new Garden Society Mystery series and the first book The Azalea Assault. A wonderful debut! There is a giveaway for this one too!

Thursday was the start of the Clean Your Shelf Giveaway Hop. Lots of great giveaways happening.

I also reviewed Summer Breeze by Nancy Thayer on Thursday. I was a little disappointed in this one.

Friday I reviewed The Devil’s Highway by R. Scott Douglas. Another author to watch.

I didn’t get as much reading done for this week as I had hoped for so Saturday left me without a book to review. I have been slowly moving posts from my old blog Dollycas’s Thoughts to this new blog. I came across an article I wrote back in 2010 about Who Made You The Reader You Are Today? It was one of my favorite posts so I reposted it here yesterday. I hope you will tell me about Who Made You The Reader You Are Today!

I also had an excellent reading week that I will tell you all about tomorrow!!

Just one this week!

The Virtual Blog Tour for this book stops here July 12.

This is such a cool picture I just had to share!!

I hope you have a wonderful day and a glorious week!

It  was an excellent blogging week!

This is my favorite week every month. The UPS driver brings me packages almost every day! It is hard to believe that he’s the same driver that delivered to Rhodes Bake-n-Serv when I was the office manager there over 11 years ago. He tries to sneak up the drive so my dogs don’t go crazy barking but it never works and we end up having a good laugh. Well here is what he brought me this week:

I know I need to push away from this computer and
Read, Read, Read!

I hope you have an awesome week!!
