Putting on the Witch
by Joyce and Jim Lavene
Epic. One word to describe this book.
From the first book in this series I was spell bound.
~Karen’s Reviews
What a great read by a couple that is dearly missed. Like all their other books this will keep you guessing and wishing there were more books to read.
~Sleuth Cafe
Contained between the covers of this book is an epic, magical adventure that carried me away in a mystical cloud of reading. I marvel that the written word could transport me in such a way.
~Lisa K’s Book Reviews
So much more than the average paranormal cozy, the story sweeps you along into a whole new world of magic and a little mayhem.
~The Angry Grey Cat Reads
The fantasy element and magical world building was wonderfully done. The mystery is well-written, the characters are likable (at least most of them are!), and I loved every word of it.
~The Book’s the Thing
This is not typical paranormal or cozy and definitely not typical paranormal cozy. I found it to be loads of fun with plenty of suspense, hilarious humor, and clever plot twists.
~I Read What You Write!
Joyce and Jim Lavene had imaginations that were truly out of this world and it was in full force in this 3rd installment of the Retired Witch Mysteries.
~Escape With Dollycas Into A Good Book
This is my favorite Lavene series! I love the paranormal aspect, as well as the close friendships, the humor, and the love.
~Book Babble
Don’t be alarmed, if like me, you are new to this series. Just jump right in and enjoy! The authors gently interweave backstory throughout, so readers fit right in.
~Mallory Heart’s Cozies
Putting on the Witch is another great book in the series…The plot is developed nicely with several twists tossed in to keep the reader guessing.
~Sapphyria’s Book Reviews
I love books that grab me right from the beginning. This book is one you will want to read without stopping. There was no way I could put this book down as the characters came to life and captured my attention.
~Texas Book-aholic
This book was incredible as is the whole series.
~Community Bookstop
Plenty of mystery abounds, with some fun twists and witchy shenanigans to keep you engaged. This would be a good one for your Halloween reading list.
~FUONLYKNEW
Anyone who enjoys mysteries with a little paranormal twist will love this series.
~3 Partners in Shopping; Nana, Mommy, &; Sissy too!
This book not your normal para-cozy it was so much more. In fact I think this goes a little deeper than most cozy mysteries.
~A. Holland Reads
I absolutely adored this book. The three witches, their friends and family are what make this book. In fact, that’s what makes all books by these authors.
~A Chick Who Reads
Jim and Joyce Lavene always created memorable characters, in unlikely situations, that always left me more than satisfied when I turned the last page. This series is certainly no exception. The Retired Witches Mysteries is a first class series, and any fan of para-normal cozy mysteries should certainly add this one to their list.
~The Cozy Mystery Journal
Putting On The Witch is about acceptance, breaking down the barriers of stereotypes and learning to accept yourself for who you are and just going with it. How in the world can a fiction book do that? I find that the Lavenes always have a message hidden in their books and this one is no exception…
~Booth Talks Books
This exciting magical cozy series will have you turning pages as fast as you can. The magic and mystery are intricately weaved together, creating a fascinating story that holds your attention from the very first page. I didn’t want to put it down.
~Brooke Blogs
Our literary world lost two amazing and talented authors this year, and by no means did they leave us with anything but a five star book…If you love the mystic and magical, then this is a series you must read.
~Bibliophile Reviews
Let your imagination run wild and escape into this fascinating world of witches and spells. Even if you are not a fan of paranormal cozy mysteries I think you will find Putting on the Witch a delight.
~MysteriesEtc
I absolutely loved this series and I can’t believe that, along with Joyce and Jim, they are gone. One can only imagine what other creative characters and worlds they would have come up with together.

Putting on the Witch is a worthy addition to the rich trove of mystery goodness the Lavenes have provided us.
~ChristyMystery
This couple of writers was really special and extraordinary: each of their books is a gem, a fun and relaxing reading. We will miss them so much.
~LibriAmoriMiei
PUTTING ON THE WITCH is a nice mix of fantasy and cozy mystery. The Lavene’s have done a fantastic job of building a world where witches, ghosts, and werewolves live alongside mortals. The best part is that this world is firmly planted in reality.
~Daniele K. on GoodReads
This book is a magical, fun, adventure! For me, this was a perfect Fall read. I curled up on the couch with my chihuahuas and a cup of tea, and read this book in one sitting. It definitely ignited my Halloween spirit!
~My Interdimensional Chaos
This was really a very fun and enjoyable read, with a great set of characters, plot and well written.
~Murder, Mystery & More…
I really enjoyed the writing and the characters were enjoyable.
~CentralEast2
This was an absolutely magical book.
~Polished Nails and Puppy Dog Tales
I was surprised by the ending, and thought that it was a good fit for the book and series.
