Unnatural Causes: A Dr. Katie LeClair Mystery
by Dawn Eastman
Wow!
This is a step up from a cozy but not as dark and most police type procedural novel . . .I liked getting to know Katie as the story progressed. I definitely want to get to know her better in upcoming books.
~A Chick Who Reads
This story is just full of little medical details that just set the story apart really giving Katie some depth. The development has lots of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing even when they think they are keeping up.
~Books a Plenty Book Reviews
Unnatural Causes has more character depth than the average mystery, and it combines elements of both cozy and traditional mysteries. The story is clean, which I very much appreciate, and there’s even a hint of romance.
~The Power of Words
The author does a great job of giving you information that can make you think one thing when it was something else.
~Books, Movies, Reviews. Oh my!
This was a great read. The character(s) are fun to get to know.
~My Reading Journeys
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great mystery with all sorts of entanglements.
~Laura’s Interests
The author did a great job of feeding us clues to perhaps suspect some secrets that had not come out over time, but not so many that you figure out the ending.
~Storeybook Reviews
It’s light-hearted and low key enough for any mystery lover but filled with more suspense and tension to set it above more traditional cozies.
~That’s What She’s Reading
I was thrilled that this book not only kept me in suspense, it was really well written and didn’t cross extreme boundaries of my comfort zone. It is kind of one of those books that you read and get engrossed in, then don’t know what to do afterward…. I ponder this still… I guess I will be waiting for her next mystery!
~Bibliophile Reviews
I found this to be a suspenseful mystery that had me juggling quite a few suspects along the way. I love the redirections thrown in and the way the story just kept growing.

Katie LeClair has finally settled down as the new doctor in Baxter, MI. After years of moving, schooling, and training, she wants nothing more than to find a place she can call home, and a small town outside of Ann Arbor seemed perfect.
Katie quickly gets to work in building a life for herself in Baxter, and beyond reviving her love life, she also finds a pair of business partners in a team of father and son family practitioners. But that idyllic dream is immediately shattered when one of her patients is found dead. That wouldn’t be the worst thing, except the death is ruled a suicide, and as evidence has it, the suicide was a result of the medication Katie had prescribed. But she doesn’t remember writing it.
When a closer investigation reveals it was murder, Katie is catapulted into an off-the-books investigation that leads her down a dark path of past secrets. But someone is willing to kill to keep part of the town’s history in the shadows, and Katie must race to find out who before it’s too late in nationally bestselling author Dawn Eastman’s riveting series debut Unnatural Causes.
National bestselling author Dawn Eastman was a family medicine physician in Michigan. Now she lives in Iowa with her husband, son, and daughter. When not writing, she keeps busy catering to the whims of a bossy bichon-shih tzu mix who wants to rule the world. This is her first Dr. Katie LeClair mystery. She is also the author of THE FAMILY FORTUNE MYSTERIES.
