A snow globe becomes a murder weapon in the latest cozy mystery from the national bestselling author of Snow Way Out and The Iced Princess.

Mayor Lewis Frost has always been known as Frosty to his friends—not that he has many these days. Controversies swirling around the city council have members wondering if Frosty is trying to snow them. After one councilman storms off in a huff, the mayor turns to curio shop manager Camryn Brooks and asks her to consider taking a seat on the council.

Later, when Cami goes to his office to discuss the proposal, her blood runs cold. She finds Frosty dead, and the very snow globe she sold him earlier that day lies in sparkling shards on his carpet—along with a large diamond. Does the snow globe—which features a peculiar tableau of an armed man and three menacing bears—hold a clue to Frosty’s demise? One way or another, it’s up to Cami to shake things up before the killer’s trail goes cold…

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Things are a bit frosty in town and not just the weather. Mayor Frost is not seeing eye to eye with the city council. Several approached him right in the Brew Ha Ha Coffee Shop to voice their displeasure. At least he wasn’t too upset to walk into Curio Finds to purchase an unusual snow globe and tell Cami to stop by his office later. When she gets there she is horrified to find him dead with his new snow globe the apparent murder weapon.

I love so many things about this series, the setting is so unique and every time I read one I want to buy everyone on my Christmas list a snow globe, but can never find ones as special at those in Curio Finds.

The characters continue to evolve in each story and I truly enjoyed this time as the circle of the 3 girlfriends is growing to be a circle of 6 friends. They are all fun and very engaging and realistically written. The author also keeps the series fresh by introducing new people that expand the suspect pool. A diverse group of tourists, local townspeople and one that is surrounded in mystery.

This time I figured out early why the mayor was killed but there were so many twists and turns I was completed stumped as to who the actual killer could be. I felt a little smart that I was ahead of Cami in one aspect and felt a cozy rush as I tried to sleuth out the guilty party before she did, but I ended up being right there with her at the end. It was a complete surprise but still made absolute sense.

Frosty The Dead Man is definitely by favorite book in the series. It is a wonderful winter read, set right before Christmas. Cozy lovers are sure to pleased!

Camryn Brooks from The Snow Globe Shop Mysteries by Christine Husom

The second book in the Snow Globe Shop Mystery Series, The Iced Princess, was just released, and protagonist, Camryn Brooks is happy to share another story with you. She’s a woman who has been thrown into traumatic circumstances a few times in her life. When she was only five years old, her parents tragically died and she went to live with her aunt’s family. It was a shock to her only child’s system to move from a quiet household to a boisterous one with a passionate, expressive uncle and four older siblings.

Her aunt and uncle, Beth and Eddie Vanelli adopted her, but kept her birth surname of Brooks since her great-great grandfather, Arthur Brooks, had founded their hometown of Brooks Landing. Cami was the only Brooks descendant still there. Even though she was very young when her birth parents died, Cami has retained a special, lifetime closeness to her mother. And to her father as well, but to a lesser extent. When she is troubled, or contemplating something, Cami often finds a penny, and believes it from her mother. A penny from heaven.

snow way outAfter Cami graduated from high school, she attended the University of Chicago and studied public policy. The art and culture in Chicago was nothing like she had experienced in sleepy Brooks Landing. She also loved the independence of making decisions without having the whole family weighing in every step of the way. When she earned her degree, she took a job with a state senator who was eventually elected a United States. senator. Cami was hired as the senator’s legislative affairs director. She also had her name legally changed from Cami to Camryn because she thought it sounded more professional.

But, as luck would have it, the senator’s husband took a personal interest in Cami, and the senator thought they were having an affair. Cami fled Washington, and the media scandal, and returned to Brooks Landing. It was good timing for her parents who needed help running Curio Finds. Although it was not the work she had ever planned to do, she was glad to be helping out, and happy to be back among family and friends again.

One of her best friends, Alice “Pinky” Nelson runs a coffee shop, Brew Ha-Ha, in the building adjoining Curio Finds. Their other childhood friends, teacher Erin Vickerman and Brooks Landing Police Officer, Mark Weston are often around. As is the assistant chief of police, Clinton Lonsbury, who Cami finds both attractive and irritating.

Cami has her quirks, like looking for messages in the pennies she finds, and fighting against her suspicious nature when it appears her friends might be involved with something they shouldn’t be. But she is smart and loyal and drawn to causes. She also can successfully pull off a believable-looking Marilyn Monroe with the right costume, hair style, and make-up. Enjoy.

The national bestselling author of Snow Way Out returns with more sparkling snow globes and cold-blooded murder…

Their former high-school classmate, Molly Dalton, is not exactly who they had in mind. Has the rich socialite worked a day in her life? But Molly practically begs for the job.

On her first day, Molly seems to be in her own little world, and Cami worries that her new employee may flake out. The problem turns out to be far worse than that when Cami discovers Molly dead in the back of the shop, after drinking a poisoned cup of coffee. Soon there is an avalanche of suspects as Cami starts shoveling through the clues—including a shattered snow globe of Marilyn Monroe. Now Cami will have to venture out of her safety zone before the pathological poisoner stirs up more trouble…

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I liked these characters in Snow Way Out as you saw from my review yesterday. They are even better in The Iced Princess.

I knew Cami was adopted by her aunt and uncle when she was just a little girl, after her parents had died, but the connection she has with her deceased mom really resonated in this story. You see pennies happen to appear out of nowhere when Cami is troubled or just needing a sign of love. I don’t know why this didn’t stand out to me more in the first book. I wish I had a connection like that with my mom, my dad, or my son. Reading about them in this story just gave me a warm feeling.

We have 2 new characters in this story, Molly Dalton and Emmy Anders. Molly was one of Pinky and Cami’s classmates who married very well but is bored being home. Emmy is an older retired woman who has some time on her hands. Cami and Pinky had been talking about hiring some extra help for the holidays so they offer both a them part-time employment. On their very first day tension is in the air and one of them dies. The last body was found in the park, this one is right in their store. Can Cami get to the truth and find why someone was killed in her store on their first day of work? She finds out there are more than the obvious suspect but can she get the police to see that too?

This story moves at a fast clip. Secrets from long ago are revealed and could have monumental consequences. There are several twists to keep us readers on out toes. This mystery was very well written and plotted. I liked the start of a new romance. I enjoyed the small bits of comic relief to keep the story from getting too heavy. The characters are growing too. I really like Cami’s adoptive parents. Beth is having chemo treatments and Eddie tries to stay by her side or keep her close by so he can take care of her even though she is a very independent woman. They are so upbeat and have such a positive outlook even after all they have been through, and they have raised their children to be the same way.

Oh and don’t forget the beautiful snow globes. After reading this story and Snow Way Out back to back I wanted to give everyone snow globes for Christmas.

Curio shop manager Camryn Brooks thought she’d seen every kind of snow globe—until she saw one depicting a crime scene…

Ever since she was a child, Cami has loved the sparkling beauty of snow globes, and now, she sells them.  In fact, they’re so popular, Cami and her friend—coffee shop owner Alice “Pinky” Nelson—are hosting a snow globe making class.

After the flurry of activity has ended and everyone has gone off with their own handmade snow globes, Cami spots a new globe left behind on a shelf, featuring an odd tableau—a man sleeping on a park bench.

On her way home, she drifts through the town park and is shaken to come upon the scene from the globe—a man sitting on a bench. But he isn’t sleeping—he has a knife in his back. When the police arrive, it’s clear they consider Cami a little flaky and possibly a suspect. After her friends also come under suspicion, Cami starts plowing through clues to find the cold-blooded backstabber—before someone else gets iced…

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I wish we had a store like this nearby. I would buy, buy, buy!!

Camryn Brooks has taken over running her parents store, Curio Finds, after returning in despair from her job in Washington D.C.. Her mother is going through chemo and her dad wants to be close by to take care of her. Her friend,   Alice “Pinky” Nelson, runs the connected coffee shop, Brew Ha Ha. Together they decided to host a snow globe making class. After the class is over Cami notices a new snow globe on a shelf in the store. A man in a park sleeping on a bench. Strange, who would have left that there? Cami starts her walk home through the park and notices a scene much like the scene in the new snow globe. She nudges the man and finds out he is not asleep, HE IS DEAD! This has to be connected to the snow globe and only the people in the class could have left it in the store. Could one of Cami’s friends or customers be a killer?

I like these characters. Cami, “my name  is Camryn”, has a chip on her shoulder after being forced out of Washington by circumstances she tried to control. But I like that she is back home, her parents, especially her mom needs her to be close by. The love this family shares is so evident. They also love their snow globe store and going on little trips to find new items to sell. I look forward to getting to know this family better. Erin, a school teacher, and Mark a police officer, round out the group that has been friends for most of their lives.  Clint, the assistant police chief, was ahead of them in school, but with this case tends to be around a lot. Clint does have one very annoying habit that drives Cami crazy. There is a lot of room for these characters to develop, but we have been given a  fine introduction.

The build up of the mystery was good but I had a hard time believing the way it played out. It also made me sad.  Cami doesn’t really investigate or solve the case but she does not know who to trust. Her friends are up to something she just hopes it isn’t murder.

It is the characters that will being me back to read The Iced Princess. They are quite a bunch.
