Synopsis

WHO WOULD RESORT TO MURDER?

Tucked away in the rolling hills of rural western Virginia is the storybook resort of Storyton Hall, catering to book lovers who want to get away from it all. To increase her number of bookings, resort manager Jane Steward has decided to host a Murder and Mayhem week so that fans of the mystery genre can gather together for some role-playing and fantasy crime solving.

But when the winner of the scavenger hunt, Felix Hampden, is found dead in the Mystery Suite, and the valuable book he won as his prize is missing, Jane realizes one of her guests is an actual murderer. Amid a resort full of fake detectives, Jane is bound and determined to find a real-life killer. There’s no room for error as Jane tries to unlock this mystery before another vacancy opens up…

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Welcome to Storyton and Storyton Hall. Book lovers are going to come for a visit and never want to leave.

Imagine a place with a library that has any book you can imagine, classics, bestsellers, children’s books, mysteries from cozy to thriller, romance from mild to wild, literary works from any author you can think of and Head Librarian, Mr. Sinclair, who can find your request in mere minutes.

Resort Manager, Jane Steward, is your host along with her Great Aunt Octavia and Great Uncle Aloysius. There is staff to meet your every need.

The Hall needs some work and Jane hopes to bring in some funds by holding a Murder and Mayhem week. The response was phenomenal and the whole place is booked for a week a fun activities. Everything is great until one of the guests is killed and then the real life mystery begins.

I was blown away by this story.  Ellery Adams has taken inspiration from all the great mystery heroes we love from Nancy Drew to Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie and wrapped those feelings into one fabulous story. In fact she has a party and invites all the guests to dress as characters from their favorite mystery novels. Some of the guests even go to great lengths to stay in character their whole visit.

The rooms are even named the Ian Fleming Lounge, the Jane Austen Parlor, the Daphne du Maurier Morning Room, the Beatrix Potter Playroom and more. I was completely enchanted with the place.

Adams has given us readers truly engaging characters. From the Stewart Family to their employees and those running the shops in Storyton,  I couldn’t pick a favorite if I tried. They are all special in their own way and are integral to this story and those coming in the future.  She also gave us a eclectic group of people visiting the Hall for this special week. Jane has her hands full with all of them.

The main plot and the subplots are interwoven with precision. It was so much fun following the clues and puzzling through the possibilities. There is also a  truly surprising twist that I can’t tell you about. No Spoilers Here!

I loved this book and I know you will too!!

Cozy Wednesday With Author Ellery Adams (Giveaway too!)

cozy wednesdayWelcome to Cozy Wednesday!

I am thrilled to welcome Ellery here today. She is the fabulous author of the
Books by the Bay Mysteries and the Charmed Pie Shoppe Mysteries.

Hi Ellery!

JBStanley ellery adamsHi Everyone!

Winter is almost over, and in Havenwood, Georgia, things are definitely heating up. Ella Mae LeFaye’s Charmed Pie Shoppe is the most popular place in town and when she’s asked to provide the desserts for the town’s most anticipated wedding, it seems as though her new business is truly taking off.

Unfortunately, Ella Mae’s personal life isn’t as successful. She’s been in love with handsome firefighter Hugh Dylan since middle school, but she can’t act on her feelings until her divorce is finalized. And her husband isn’t willing to let her go. In fact, he’ll go through terrible lengths to keep her.

At least there’s a wedding to look forward to. Ella Mae infuses each of her miniature pies and tarts with sensations of love and joy and the evening promises to be pure magic. The bride and groom dance on the lawn beneath the glow of a million stars and hovering fireflies and Ella Mae hopes to take a turn over the soft grass with Hugh. But not long after the newlyweds gallop away on horseback, the mother of the bride succumbs to a mysterious illness and slips into a coma.

Ella Mae and her family must pool their gifts and talents in order to catch an enchanted killer.  All the while, she must continue to dazzle her pie shop patrons with offerings like the one listed below.

This is one of Ella Mae’s magical wedding pies. Try it and enjoy!

And if you leave a comment telling us about your favorite pie, you could win this Charmed Pie Shoppe prize pack featuring a striped apron, heart dish towels, and a mini pie mold!

Peach Pies and Alibis (A Charmed Pie Shoppe Mystery #2)

Ella Mae has a lot on her plate with running her very successful Charmed Pie Shoppe but has decided to add a little catering to the mix. Her first job is a dessert buffet at a wedding. Things are going well until right after the couple ride away on horseback the bride’s stepmother is rushed to the hospital where she slips into a coma. This on the tails of a prominent member of the community has died. Ella Mae is afraid these two things may be related.

Ella Mae is also trying to understand her enchanted gift and wants to know the origin of her magical powers. She also needs to know if the attraction she feels for Hugh is true.  She needs to get her divorce finalized and then see if she can have a future with the guy she has loved since middle school.

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Peach Pies and Alibis is a very unique story that will have you enthralled from the first page to the last.

In her search to understand her powers Ella Mae’s journey takes the reader on a magical ride. From her mother’s beautiful gardens to a very special place for those that are charmed. I felt like I was on Ella Mae’s shoulder with a bird’s eye view watching the entire story take place. Ellery Adams has the gift to suspend time as her readers almost descend right into the book for an amazing trip that takes us beyond Havenwood. I was most definitely captivating by her words. The way she weaves this mystery with the mystery of finding the killer is flawless.

The characters are wonderful including the lovable Jack Russell terrier, Charleston Chew (Chewy). Ella’s aunts and mother, each with their distinct charms, are extraordinary characters. Loralyn and her family are the Havenwood residents that must be endured by Ella Mae and her family but they add the strife every good cozy needs. Hugh Dylan brings the romantic tension and sparks actually fly. Mr. & Mrs. Caswell even make a cameo appearance. The Shepard’s pie was delicious!

This story get my highest recommendation! If I could I would award it much more than 5 starfish!!  I know this is going to be on my 2013 favorites list!!

Written in Stone (A Books by the Bay, #4)

Olivia Limoges has been summoned to see Munin Cooper, known as the witch of Oyster Bay. Munin tells Olivia that death is coming. Neither woman realized that is was Munin’s death that was imminent. When her body is found Olivia instincts tell her there is something more sinister than a mystical force at work.

Finding Munin’s killer takes top priority for Olivia even though she needs to be getting ready for the Coastal Carolina Food Festival. Munin had given Olivia a memory jar that she had made and Olivia knows that if she can just figure out what the keepsakes mean she will be able to identify the killer. She enlists the help of the Bayside Book Writers to help her solve the pottery puzzle and help her to catch the culprit before he claims another victim.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Ellery Adams just keeps topping herself. Each book is better than the last. This is definitely one of the best books I have read this year.

One of the mysteries of this series has been the star character herself and we are finally really getting into the heart of her life in this installment. Plus the character is evolving and moving forward in the most wonderful ways.

In this story we also learn about the Lumbee Indian Tribe. The Lumbee are one of eight state-recognized Native American tribes in North Carolina. The author took the history of this tribe and wove it right into Olivia’s world. I really love the way she does this because added to the enjoyment of the story we get a little education as well. The memory jug with the keepsake clues added that additional element every great mystery needs. The puzzle to figure out, not just trying to pick up clues from what the characters say or remembering something at at that climatic moment.

To fully appreciate this story it is necessary to read all of the books in order. Only then can the reader enjoy the growth of all the characters.

Kudos Ellery!!! Bring on Poisoned Prose!! I can’t wait!!
