While Jemma is fulfilling her one festival assignment of helping vendors set up, she learns a man has swapped the ornaments he’d listed on his application for a book he’s written about the string of local murders. To avoid reigniting everyone’s emotional distress, the event organizer asks him to leave. When Jemma and Brandon check back, instead of finding an empty booth they find the man dead.
Before Jemma can reassure anyone that her focus is on the wedding, not the investigation, unsettling gifts that twist The Twelve Days of Christmas start appearing at her shop. The holiday tune has never been more threatening.
The killer’s grudge is personal, but Jemma has more to protect this Christmas than her life. She needs to wind up the investigation so she and Brandon can finally tie the knot!
Dollycas’s Thoughts
We return to Clear Creek just in time for the annual Christmas festival and, more importantly, Jemma and Brandon’s wedding. Before either one can happen, Jemma in helping vendors set up for the festival. She notices that one of the vendors is selling his book about several local murders instead of the local holiday items he listed on his application. Event organizer Emmilene tells him he’s violated his contract and needs to pack up and leave within the hour. But when Jemma and Brandon return, they find the books and a dead author.
Jemma has no desire to get involved in another murder investigation, especially with her wedding day quickly approaching. But someone doesn’t even give her a chance to say so. Instead, she starts to receive disturbing “gifts” based on The Twelve Days of Christmas. The killer is making the situation very personal. Each message definitely carries a layer of hatred.
Jemma and Brandon have no choice. If they want their wedding to be a celebration, they need to catch the murderer/gifter before they walk down that frosty aisle.
I was delighted to return to Clear Creek for the Christmas festival and Jemma and Brandon’s nuptials.
I love that it brought Brandon’s parents back to town. His mom, Tori, was happy to see them, but we see that it was something other than the weather that caused them to move away. Jemma has such a big heart, kind and caring. With everything on her plate, she carves out time to spend with Tori. Under the guise of helping her knit a hat, Jemma gets to know her future mother-in-law and forms a friendship. Brandon and his dad, Nathan, are surprised how quickly the two women connected in real ways.
Brandon and his dad spent some quality time too, when Brandon wasn’t helping Zak, the head of Clear Creek Security, and Sheriff Matthew Chase catch the killer and deal with all of Jemma’s gifts. Emmilene organized the festival while Kitty, Chloe, and some temporary helpers minded Black Sheep Yarns and Woolies. Granny was in charge of the Cozy Tree where hats are knitted for charity. Tori even stopped by to help. They all wanted to give Jemma plenty of time to complete all her tasks needed for the wedding.
Jemma really tried to leave the investigating to the investigators, but each “gift” received pulled her in. She was reviewing her life since she came back to Clear Creek. Who could be targeting her? The person was clearly watching her every move. Who could it be? The mystery has some dark notes, but the author tempers them well with the warmth of the holiday festivities and the wedding.
Christmastime is a wonderful time to visit Clear Creek. This little community goes all out. The Cozy Tree is a wonderful idea to do a little good over the holidays. While an outdoor winter wedding would never be for me, I loved it for Jemma and Brandon. With fresh snow, torch poles holding white candles, and everyone who welcomed Jemma back to Clear Creek- everyone from the Sheriff’s office, friends, and family- and Granny as the officiant, it was a perfect day and a wondrous way to end this series.
All’s Wool That Ends Wool brings to a close a series I have loved from the beginning. All the loose threads were knit together, and our favorite characters were left in a good place. That being said, it is not easy to say goodbye to these genuine, heartwarming fictional friends.
I highly recommend each book in the Clear Creek Mystery Series. They would make great Christmas gifts for yourself and all the lovers of crafty, cozy mysteries on your list.
