Synopsis
The author of Bun for Your Life returns to Destiny, New York, where bakery owners and amateur sleuths Molly Tyler and Olivia Williams never crumble under pressure…
While the rest of Destiny is focused on the arrival of an upper crust perfume mogul, Molly is more concerned about what’s on the front page of the newspaper: her mother. Library director Anne Tyler was photographed at the most romantic restaurant in town having a cozy dinner with library advisory board member Philip Baldelli. But there’s more for Molly to worry about after Philip is found dead a few days later.
When Detective Sean Corsino zeroes in on Anne as a person of interest in the case, it turns down the heat on his budding romance with Molly. But after he’s injured during the course of his investigation, Molly and Olivia must step in to sift through the clues and clear Anne’s name.
Dollycas’s Thoughts
If you look at the front page of the local newspaper you would think there was more than library business going on between Molly’s mom, Anne, and board member Philip Baldelli. Anne assures Molly there is nothing to worry about, but then the man is found dead and Anne is being questioned by Detective Sean Corsino. Yes, new Molly’s boyfriend. Before he can wrap up the case and clear Anne he finds himself in the hospital. Another detective takes over the case but Molly decides she needs to track down the real killer herself.
I really enjoy Molly and Sean together with their basset hounds. Their romance is building, but it is not without a few bumps along the way. One huge bump happens when a person from his past comes to Destiny with only 1 thing on her mind. So Molly definitely has her hands full. One drawback to her character is how upset she gets when Sean doesn’t share his investigation findings with her. I understand her mother is a suspect but he is just doing his job and trying to avoid get kicked off the case because he is dating the main suspect’s daughter.
The romance was a little bit more prominent than the mystery this time but I was pleased with both plots lines separately and when they converged. There was always something happening, never a dull moment in Destiny. I was charmed by the characters and Destiny sounds like a wonderful place.
I read this book easily in one sitting. I was anxious to see how everything turned out.
I hope to take a trip to Destiny again soon and reconnect with this fun group of characters.
