Lost something? Gabriela Rose knows how to get it back. As a recovery agent, she’s hired by individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms, or missing assets of any kind. She’s reliable, cool under pressure, and well trained in weapons of all types. But Gabriela’s latest job isn’t for some bamboozled billionaire, it’s for her own family, whose home is going to be wiped off the map if they can’t come up with a lot of money fast.
Inspired by an old family legend, Gabriela sets off for the jungles of Peru in pursuit of the Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Lima. But this particular job comes with a huge problem attached to it—Gabriela’s ex-husband, Rafer. It’s Rafer who has the map that possibly points the way to the treasure, and he’s not about to let Gabriela find it without him.
Rafer is as relaxed as Gabriela is driven, and he has a lifetime’s experience getting under his ex-wife’s skin. But when they aren’t bickering about old times the two make a formidable team, and it’s going to take a team to defeat the vicious drug lord who has also been searching for the fabled ring. A drug lord who doesn’t mind leaving a large body count behind him to get it.
Recovery Agent Gabriela Rose finds lost treasures and she is an expert at what she does. Now it is her own family that needs her help. Their town has been destroyed by a recent storm and they have to act fast if they are going to save it. According to an old family legend, they are connected to the Lost Treasure of Lima which includes The Ring of Solomon. Finding it could bring a huge payout for her family. She agrees to use her talents to find it but first, she needs to locate the map she needs to start her quest. That means she needs to go to the home her ex-husband received in the divorce. As soon as he learns of her plans he decides to accompany her on the adventure. In between fighting like an old married couple and fighting off a dangerous drug lord they do make a pretty good team. Now they just need to find the treasure and live long enough to save the little South Carolina town where they grew up.
Snakes! Snakes!! SNAKES!!!
I love Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series so I was excited to see her take on another strong woman’s adventures. She exceeded all my expectations. Gabriela Rose is a fantastic protagonist with guts and grit. She is strong, smart, determined, and courageous. A female Indiana Jones! She goes into places most people can’t even imagine and she absolutely loves it. She is joined on her current quest by her ex-husband Rafer. He is strong and smart as well but a bit of a slob. He is “disturbingly hot” though at “six feet two and nicely muscled”. They have their issues but they have each other’s back and make a terrific team. They also take their family’s needs to heart and it drives them to succeed. I really like these characters and am anxious to see how their relationship continues to play out as the series continues.
They travel to the jungles of Peru and Costa Rica and on to California to find their treasure with side stops in New York and South Carolina and come in contact with a variety of people. Some very bad people who have no problem killing people to get what they want or people at random. Some mostly good people who want to help them but have questionable occupations and histories. Then you have the SNAKES!! They seem to be everywhere. The human characters are very well crafted. Some are slimy as the snakes while others will have you rooting for them along the way.
This story is a true adventure and action-packed, I was completely captivated by the history of the missing treasure and how many people had searched and were still searching for it. I really enjoyed the underwater descriptions but each place Gabriela and Rafer traveled was wonderfully described to paint a vivid picture. You would never catch me on a trip to most of these places but I sure had a good time tagging along virtually with these characters, well except for the snakes.
Ms. Evanovich threw in some fantastic twists. With all the explosions and bullets flying the suspense was kept at a high level. A gripping novel it was almost impossible to put down. I only took two very short breaks and stayed up late to finish it all in one sitting not even worrying about the book hangover I would have the next day.
It wouldn’t be an Evanovich novel without her signature humor and this book has it in spades. Whether in the downtime or in the most stressful situations she places the funny absolutely perfectly.
The Recovery Agent was a spectacular story and a sensational debut for this series. I am looking forward to many more escapades with Gabriela Rose. This one was entertaining and fun and I can’t wait for more. Maybe with fewer Snakes! You will find The Recovery Agent on my Best Reads List for 2022. Did I mention there were a lot of snakes?

From Janet Evanovich, #1 bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum novels, and Lee Goldberg, bestselling author and television writer for Monk, comes the first adventure in an electrifying new series featuring an FBI agent who always gets her man, and a fearless con artist who lives for the chase.
Nicolas Fox is an international con man, famous for running elaborate scams on very rich and powerful people. He knows that the FBI has been hot on his trail for years—particularly FBI Special Agent Kate O’Hare. But just when it seems that Fox has been captured for good, he pulls off his greatest con of all: He convinces the FBI to offer him a job, working side by side with O’Hare.
Their first assignment takes them to the side streets of Berlin, the California desert, and remote Indonesian islands as they team up to catch Derek Griffin, a corrupt investment banker charged with stealing millions from his clients. Finding Griffin on his private island is going to test O’Hare’s patience and Fox’s skill. High-speed chases, pirates, and Toblerone bars are all in a day’s work . . . if O’Hare and Fox don’t kill each other first.
As a Janet Evanovich fan I knew I would like this story.
While the authors stretch reality with a female who is a former Navy SEAL, this character was quite interesting but she is no Stephanie Plum. Kate O’Hare is a great protagonist and a woman on a mission and then that mission suddenly gets turned upside down. Likewise Nicolas Fox is an awesome con man but he is no Ranger, but he is a thorn in Kate side, that does make her heart rate increase.
Putting aside Evanovich’s Plum Series and letting this series stand on its own is hard but readers have to do that. This story does have some humor but it is more complex and plotted out just a bit differently which is what I believe Goldberg brings to the story. Together they bring us a story that is entertaining.
It was an amazing fast read. There were a few tense moments of suspense but this is a very light mystery. A fun beach read or a fun break if you read a lot of thriller books.
I have the second book, The Chase, waiting on my kindle and I plan to read it soon. For me the jury is still out on this series.

Yes that says August. My life has just been crazy since Great Escapes Book Tours have taken off. I am reading about 1 less book a week and I really hate that! but I am loving these tours so I just need to sleep less, read and type faster, and maybe spend a little less time talking to friends on Facebook. 🙂
One of my challenges this year has to get to caught up on some of my favorite series. The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovich is the one I am concentrating on right now. I love these stories and they seem to give me just the pick me up I need. Plus they are really fast reads! Thankfully this is a Just For Fun catch up month!

Stephanie Plum was on the trip of a lifetime to Hawaii when things go horribly wrong and she heads back to Trenton early. When she returns home she finds out the guy in the seat next to her on the airplane for the first leg of her trip home has been found dead. No wonder he missed the flight. His killer could be anyone and when Stephanie learns the FBI is involved and that the key seems to be a picture the deceased was supposed to be carrying she knows she is in trouble. She has seen that picture, in her carry on bag from the plane.
So now she appears to be the killers new target plus Morelli, Trenton’s hottest cop, isn’t talking about Hawaii. Ranger, the man of mystery, isn’t talking about Hawaii. And all Stephanie is willing to say about her Hawaiian vacation is . . . It’s complicated.
These stories are like a pair of comfortable slippers. All the characters we have grown to love getting themselves in crazy trouble and Ranger and Morelli doing their best to win Stephanie’s heart and keep her alive in the process.
Since the movie was made I can clearly picture all the characters even though Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will always be my vision of Ranger. Just my personal preference.
The stories are light and funny and a very quick read. When I need to escape into a book for pure amusement Stephanie Plum is my go to girl. She and Lula always put a smile on my face.

Where there’s smoke there’s fire, and no one knows this better than New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum.
Vinnie is just trying to rebuild his bail bonds office but that is not happening easily. When the backhoe shows up to prepare the sight they find much more than they bargained for. Not just one dead body but two and there could be more.
Stephanie just wants to pick up her FTA’s and collect her pay but she can’t help but do a little investigating. She needs to do something to get her mind off the curse Morelli’s grandmother put on her and her family has decided she really needs to settle down so they are throwing yet another man at her.
When she finds out the dead bodies have been left to scare her, she realizes the killer may be after her next.
With a cold-blooded killer after her, a handful of hot men, and a capture list that includes a dancing bear and a senior citizen vampire, Stephanie’s life looks like it’s about to go up in smoke.
Sunday afternoon I was in the mood to read something fun. It didn’t take me long to pick up this book. You just can’t go wrong with a Stephanie Plum novel. They are quick reads and like always this one had me laughing out loud.
Let’s see besides the dead bodies, you have a man that always seems to answer his door stark naked who found out how quickly Lula can blow if you call her “fat”. Then you have another man who has failed to appear who thinks he is a vampire and will only come out at night. Another man who has no money so he leaves his “dancing bear” with Vinnie as collateral. Oh my this batch of bailed out individuals were something else.
Of course you have the regular cast of characters, “hunkalicious” Ranger, “McDreamy” Morelli, bodacious Lula, and Crazy Grandma Mazur all keep Stephanie’s life in utter chaos.
As any series that goes on this long things can get a little stale sometimes but it was the perfect pick me up for me. Just what I needed.
