I had an excellent reading week last week so I decided to catch up on one of my favorite series and on my Just For Fun Reading. So this book will take the February slot on my Just For Fun Reading Challenge.
Book Fair and Foul
(Ashton Corners Book Club)
4th in Series
Setting – Alabama
A Berkley Prime Crime Mystery
The Berkley Publishing Group (August 5, 2014)
Published by The Penguin Group
Mass Market Paperback: 304 pages
E-Book ASIN: B00I3N62FS
For the mystery book lovers of Ashton Corners,
burial plots tell the most intriguing stories.
The members of the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straws Society are all chipping in as Molly Mathews, now owner of the bookstore the Book Nook, prepares the first annual Mystery Book Fair. While gossip circulates about the guest authors, club member Lizzie Turner is unpleasantly surprised to see a certain book publicist make an appearance. It seems Lizzie has a history with Ashley Dixon—a chapter of her life she’d rather leave closed.
But when someone gives Ashley a death sentence, Lizzie becomes the prime suspect in a murder mystery she can’t put down. Now Lizzie and her fellow book buffs have to read between the lines of the publicist’s past and catch the real killer before Lizzie is written off for good.
I knew I had to hurry up and read this book because Law and Author comes out September 1.
This is the 4th book in the series and the Ashton Corners Mystery Readers and Cheese Straws Society is helping the Book Nook hold a book fair. They hope it will become an annual event. The fair brings an unexpected guest, someone from Lizzie’s past. Ashley Dixon is now a publicist working with the book fair authors but she seems to have another reason for being in town. Before Lizzie can find out what it is Ashley is dead and Lizzie is even a suspect!
The was a lighthearted read that found Molly, Lizzie, and their friends trying to keep the guest authors entertained while they try to close the book on the murder. At first I thought I knew exactly who killed Ashley but I was so wrong. Erica Chase threw in a bunch of twists and those pages kept turning and turning and turning and then the true culprit was revealed and it made perfect sense.
This series is full of great characters and I am so looking forward to visiting them again soon. Erika Chase will be my guest for Cozy Wednesday on September 16!
You can find out all about Erika Chase and her books on her webpage here.

The Big Dirt Nap:
A Dirty Business Mystery
2nd in Series
Publisher: Minotaur Books;
First Edition edition (February 2, 2010)
Mass Market Paperback: 288 pages
New York media exec-turned-gardener Paula Holliday is thrilled when her friend Lucy asks her to tag along on an all-expenses-paid junket to the Titans Hotel. On display is the rare titan arum, a notoriously pungent plant known as the “corpse flower.” Unfortunately, the flower isn’t blooming—and the only thing Paula smells is a real corpse…
Lucy’s would-be suitor has been found dead—with a hole in his head—and Lucy has mysteriously disappeared. Now Paula has to start digging up clues before the police’s worst suspicions take root. Even if the odious flower finally blooms, Paula has more important things to tend to. Because murder, by any other name, really stinks…
I was really drawn to this book for its small Wisconsin connection. The University of Wisconsin has a copse flower and when it blooms it is a big event. They cover it on the news and in the newspapers. It really is a smelly thing and not in a good way.I was happy to catch up with Paula and her Dirty Business but they wasn’t much gardening due the time of year in this installment.
This is a classic cozy with the quirky characters with Paula as the amateur sleuth. A few skin of the teeth moments to keep the reader on their toes. And some very funny moments that had me laughing out loud.
This was a great choice to read Just For Fun!
*This book was from my private collection.
I have been busy catching up on my 2013 Just For Fun Challenge.

Old Maid’s Puzzle
(A Quilting Mystery)
2nd in the Series
Published by Midnight Ink
Dewey Pellicano is looking forward to celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Quilter Paradiso, the quilting shop left to her by her mother. Dewey never caught the quilting bug but realizes she has to learn to keep the store a sucess and as she learns so is starting to love it just as her mom did.
The quilting love goes out the back door as she finds out there is a dead body in the alley behind the store. As if she didn’t have enough problems, facing stiff competition from other stores she is barely keeping Quilter Paradiso afloat, she has an employee who happens to be her sister-in-law fighting her every step of the way and she just learned her shop is going to be featured on national television the day before the huge 20th Anniversary Sale. A dead body in the alley is not going to lure customers to her store even if it is on television. She has to scrap together everything she can to find the killer before the sale. Hopefully her hunky detective boyfriend Buster will lend her a hand.
There is just something about these books, once I start them I can’t put them down. As I said when I reviewed the first book, Wild Goose Chase, this is a fun series. Dewey is getting stronger. Her romance with Buster is developing nicely. Kym has taken her fight against progress to a whole new level. We are also getting into more of the lives of the supporting characters.
But it is the mystery of who killed the man in the alley that kept the pages turning with its several twists and turns that made me love this book. It was full of surprises and suspense. There are also parts that are laugh out loud funny. Terri has crafted another cozy both quilters and non quilters will absolutely love. I can’t wait to read Ocean Waves and Monkey Wrench comes out on May 8.
I may have lost all the forms and the posts about this challenge when Dollycas’s Thoughts was disabled by Google but I have all entries through September 30, saved on my computer.
Please add the book you read JUST FOR FUN in October in the comment section below. Remember to include the author’s name. Please add a note if it is a catch up book.
