Combining the sugar rush of candy making with a fascinating look at Amish life, a quirky whodunit, and a sweet romance between chocolatier Bailey King and Sheriff Aiden Brody, Amanda Flower’s USA Today bestselling Amish Candy Shop Mysteries continue, as summer wedding season comes to the village of Harvest, Ohio…
Horror d’oeuvres
Summer is finally upon the village of Harvest, Ohio, nestled in picturesque Amish Country, and folks are abuzz over their very own Bailey King’s upcoming June wedding. The Amish Candy shop owner and star of TV’s Bailey’s Amish Sweets is marrying Holmes County Sheriff Aiden Brody. To sweeten the occasion will be a scrumptious giant chocolate truffle wedding cake, made especially for the happy couple by Bailey’s New York City mentor, Jean Pierre. Other than the risk of the ring bearer, Jethro the pig, taking a bite out of the confection, what could go wrong?
As it turns out, a food-related disaster does befall the day. But with Bailey in the mix, it’s nothing so pedestrian as a peckish pig. At the reception, a wedding guest dies after sampling the hors d’oeuvres. Café owner and new caterer Darcy Woodin, who made all the food except the desserts, is pegged by police as the number one suspect. Even more incriminating, the victim is one of Darcy’s ex-boyfriends . . .
Still, Bailey is friends with Darcy, and she’s certain the young woman is innocent. Even before the first dance with her new husband, Bailey’s on the case. Can she help solve it in time for her honeymoon—or will a killer try to end her happily ever after before it’s even begun . . .?

Dollycas’s Thoughts
It’s here! Bailey King and Aiden Brody’s wedding day is here. Bailey’s New York City mentor, Jean Pierre, has arrived in Harvest with a giant chocolate truffle wedding cake to celebrate the long-awaited event. Bailey’s best friend, Cass Calbera, arrives with him to handle her maid-of-honor duties, and Jethro the pig is ready to carry the rings down the aisle. The entire town was invited to the event, and most attended.
Sadly, the reception doesn’t go as smoothly as the wedding. A guest dies after eating one of the hors d’oeuvres. It was the first catering job for café owner and Bailey’s friend Darcy Woodin. The victim, Jason Hackney, was an ex-boyfriend of Darcy’s, so she is at the top of the suspect list. Bailey believes her friend is innocent. With this murder, Bailey and Aiden’s honeymoon plans are cancelled as they both dig into their investigations.
Will Bailey and Aiden get their happily ever after, or has the killer just started making trouble?
We have been waiting for this wedding as was everyone in and around Harvest, Amish and English. It was wonderful that Jean Pierre came to town for the event with a very special cake. He was quite taken with the town and its happenings and became quick friends with Darcy’s grandmother, Lois. That woman is a hoot, and I enjoyed how smitten Jean Pierre was with her.
I wanted to boot Margot Rawlings out of town. The community planner couldn’t let Bailey enjoy her time getting ready for her wedding. No, Margot planned an event to start right after and expected Bailey to help her almost to the moment she walked down the aisle. Then, after the wedding, with the honeymoon on hold, she left the entire start of her Summer Soiree, including setup, to Bailey while she took her husband to an appointment. She also put a huge burden on Charlotte and Bailey with a huge chocolate truffle order. What if Bailey hadn’t been there?
Aiden’s mother, Juliet, needed help with Jethro, too. Maami, Bailey’s grandmother, also had a health scare, which put things into perspective for a lot of people. I write about these people as if I know them personally. That’s a credit to Amanda Flower. She has created genuine characters, and I have been invested in their lives since book one, Assaulted Caramel.
Bailey truly had her hands full and was pulled in many directions. Through it all, she did something she does so well. Moving between the Amish and the English, asking the right questions, listening to the responses, but also what is left unsaid. She worked hard, putting the pieces of the puzzling whodunit together again before Aiden.
I always have a good time trying to solve the mystery before Bailey. This time, I was caught up in the various subplots, twists, and misdirections, and when I finished the book, I realized I had made no notes or highlights. The descriptive detail took me right into Harvest for every moment, side by side, with all its residents.
Readers waited a little longer for the 10th Amish Candy Shop Mystery, but Truffle Trouble was well worth the wait! Bailey King Brody’s heart shines bright in this story; the woman can’t say “NO” and tries to see the best in everyone. She is surrounded by wonderfully quirky characters and a few bad apples, in a unique town where there is always something happening. Each visit ends much too soon. I highly recommend every book in this series. For maximum enjoyment, they are best read in order, but each can be read on its own.
