National bestselling author Lucy Burdette’s intrepid food critic Hayley Snow must sniff out a killer in the ninth Key West Food Critic mystery.

Key West food critic Hayley Snow scents-es something fishy when a customer falls stone-crab cold dead on a seafood tasting tour.

Thanksgiving is nearly here, and Key West food critic Hayley Snow has just one more assignment to put to bed for Key Zest magazine before she gets to celebrate with her family and her police officer fiancé, Nathan Bransford. Then, just days later, wedding bells will ring—if death doesn’t toll first.

The sweet potatoes and stuffing will have to wait when Hayley picks up a distraught phone call from her friend, Analise Smith. On the last stop of a seafood tasting tour run by Analise, one of the customers collapsed—dead. With the police on the verge of shutting down the tour—and ruining Analise’s business—Hayley can hardly refuse her friend’s entreaties to investigate.

As if wedding jitters and family strife weren’t enough for Hayley to worry about, there’s crusty pastry chef Martha Hubbard, whose key lime pie may have been the murder weapon—but did she poison her own pie or was she framed? As the hours to Turkey Day tick away, the pressure cooker is on for Hayley to serve up the culprit on a silver platter in A Deadly Feast, national bestselling author Lucy Burdette’s taste-tempting ninth Key West Food Critic mystery.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

It’s almost Thanksgiving and food critic Hayley Snow already has plenty on her plate.

  • Her wedding to Detective Nathan Bransford is just a few days away.
  • Her father, stepmother, and stepbrother will be arriving in Key West soon for the festivities including Thanksgiving dinner at her mother’s.
  • She needs to find a place for her and her groom to live because the contractor they hired to renovate Nathan’s houseboat keeps flaking on them.
  • She is taking part in a seafood tasting tour to write an article for Key Zest Magazine.
  • Her groom is working on some top secret case and is missing all the pre-wedding festivities which has her very worried.
  • Plus, the murder she now has to solve. Yes, at that seafood tasting tour, one of the other participants died right in front of everyone. At least, this puts her article on hold.

A normal bride would be all wrapped up in wedding plans the week before her wedding, but Hayley Snow is not a normal bride. She takes on so much I was exhausted just reading about everything she was doing. Oh! to have her energy!

I love Hayley Snow. She is a great protagonist. She is smart and has great instincts and her investigating talents have grown so much since the first book. The one thing she can’t do is say “No” to anyone. This time a chef asked for her help but truthfully she would have investigated anyway, even after Nathan asks her to leave it to the police. In full disclosure, Nathan’s plate was as full as Hayley’s but the case he was working totally took over. Miss Gloria never fails to bring the comedy to almost any situation. She is a real treat. Almost all my other favorite characters returned in this story too. One was out of town and some just have small cameo appearances but it was nice to see them. I was also happy to see Hayley’s whole family together to support her.

The book was very entertaining. All the daily drama leading up to the real main event captivated me from the start. Because of that, the mystery portion of the story got a little lost for me. I was wrapped up in all the other chaos in Hayley’s normal life until things really started to come together in a very exciting way near the end. There was definitely some edge of the seat moments. Then the ending was positively heartwarming.

Again, this author brings on my cravings with all the delectable food. Lobster Macaroni and Cheese, Mojito Cookies, Strawberries and Lime Sponge Cake Trifle, and some unique twists on the usual Thanksgiving fare. Yes, the recipes are at the back of the book. Perfect to make your own holiday feast.

I have enjoyed each and every visit to Key West. These are some of my favorite cozy characters and a literary vacation to Key West is always fun, no matter what time of year.

Fans of this series will be delighted by this book. New readers will enjoy it even more if they start the series from the beginning.

When a killer strikes just before flan time, beloved food critic Hayley Snow is forced to sniff out the killer before someone else bites the dust.

Hayley Snow, fiery food critic for Key Zest magazine, has just landed a ticket to one of the most prestigious events in Key West: a high-brow three-day conference at the Harry Truman Little White House. Even though she’ll be working the event helping her mother’s fledgling catering business, there’s plenty of spicy gossip to go around. But just before her mother’s decadent flan is put to the test, Key West’s most prized possession, Hemingway’s Nobel prize gold medal for The Old Man and the Sea, is discovered stolen from its case.

Unsavory suspicions point to Gabriel, a family friend and one of the new busboys working the event, who mysteriously goes missing moments later. Anxious to clear his name, Gabriel’s family enlists Hayley to help find him, but right as they begin their search, his body is found stabbed to death in the storeroom.

Hayley has no shortage of suspects to interrogate and very little time before the killer adds another victim to the menu in national bestselling author Lucy Burdette’s delectable eighth Key West Food Critic mystery, Death on the Menu.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Key West is a place steeped with history. Whether it be the Harry Truman Little White House or the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, both are huge tourist attractions. We visit just in time for a conference bringing a Cuban delegation to Key West to celebrate the similarities and differences hoping to forge a path of working together. Hemingway’s Nobel prize medal has been brought to town to be put on display with other treasures during the conference. Hayley’s mother has been hired to cater the food for the event. Hayley and Miss Gloria have been recruited to help serve. Hayley’s boyfriend Nathan would like the ladies to stay away from the conference. His intel says they may be trouble with all the protestors. But Hayley assures him that security is tight and they will be safe. Then the Nobel prize is stolen and one of her mother’s employees is missing. An all out search doesn’t find the medal but the employee is found in a storeroom, stabbed with a kitchen knife. Someone that passed through security has to be the killer, which means everyone. With suspects galore Hayley dives right in to find the murderer and hoping when she does she will find Hemingway’s prize too and ease the tension with the guests from Cuba.

This story has a slow build as the author introduces all the history and reasons for the conference. Hayley is still working on stories for Key Zest but isn’t in the office much. She spends most of her time with her mother getting food ready and serving. I missed the interaction with the other people at Key Zest. That being said there was so really cool guests to the conference. Jimmy Buffett and Barack Obama surprised the attendees with their appearances. I enjoyed Hayley supporting her mom and going above and beyond to make the event a success. Miss Gloria is always entertaining. I wish I had her energy.

After the body is found the pace picks up as both the police and Hayley need to catch the killer before the conference ends. For Hayley, that means being in the right place at the right time and keeping her ears open. With several twists and a keen insight, Hayley makes a discovery that blows the whole case wide open. I really enjoyed tagging along for this one.

After the killer is caught and the characters get back to their Key West lives the story ends in a way that had me smiling ear to ear and very excited for the next book in this series. I hope we don’t have to wait too long.

By the time you reach the 8th book in a series, the characters and the place have evolved in so many ways. To really enjoy this story I recommend reading the prior books first. Miss Burdette does provide some background details because of the publisher change, but to really know Hayley Snow, you need to start at the beginning.

On Houseboat Row by Lucy Burdette

IMG_0273Because the theme of this blog is “escaping” to read, I thought you might be interested in hearing—and seeing—more about where food critic Hayley Snow lives. She shares a houseboat on Houseboat Row with her octagenarian roommate, Miss Gloria.

IMG_0040Even though the characters and story in KILLER TAKEOUT are fictional, Houseboat Row really exists! Although this hodgepodge collection of boats sits on a busy corner (Palm Avenue and S. Roosevelt Blvd. for those who know Key West), once you step off the parking lot and onto the docks, the weight of the the world slides off your back. I imagine Hayley and Miss Gloria living on a little yellow one-story boat, with two bedrooms, a living area, and a galley kitchen. At the far end of the boat is a small deck where Miss Gloria grows tomatoes and herbs. At the other end, the deck is larger, big enough for a dining table and some chairs to lounge in and watch the world go by.

IMG_0045Many a dinner party has been thrown on the deck over the course of the series, and KILLER TAKEOUT is no exception. In fact, since the book takes place during the crazy, hectic Fantasy Fest week, Hayley and Miss Gloria retreat to their boat frequently, often joined by family and friends.

FullSizeRenderWe all hope you’ll enjoy your seventh visit to Key West and even imagine yourself as one of the neighbors…

It’s Fantasy Fest at Key West, and food critic Hayley Snow is ready to celebrate. But a killer seems intent on crashing the party. . .

Every year, Key West’s weeklong Mardi Gras–style festival has tourists and locals alike lining up for costumed revelry and delicious eats. Key Zest magazine has assigned Hayley to write a piece on the fest’s grab-and-go food, so she’s planning on hitting up the mobile eateries while checking out the party preparations.

Hayley’s office mate, Danielle, recently elected Queen of Fantasy Fest, is also buzzing between festivities and fundraisers.  But when a former royal rival gets taken out, Hayley needs to put down her party hat and her pen and figure out who served up a side of murder—before Danielle gets crowned a killer. . .

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Zombies, a hurricane, and murder! OH MY!! This story is “KILLER”!!!

Never a dull moment in Key West, but Halloween seems extra special. The week plus long event, Fantasy Fest, includes great food and drink, several events each day and costumes that are fun, scary, and some downright risqué.  Hayley Snow is right in the middle of it all. She is reviewing places that serve takeout for Key Zest. Everything from food trucks to restaurants. She is also covering and participating in several events.

Her coworker Danielle was elected Queen of Fantasy Fest after weeks of fundraising but she seems to have made an enemy. Another contestant is not taking her loss well and making Danielle miserable.

Hayley dons makeup to zombify herself and takes part in the Zombie Bicycle Ride. Alcohol, costume restraints, or lack of balance has zombies tumbling everywhere. One right by Hayley so she stops to help. It takes awhile but she realizes it is the woman that has been bullying Danielle. When she dies police think there may have been foul play and Danielle is their main suspect. Hayley quickly starts her own investigation.

Oh and in addition to that and work, her mother has arrived in Key West with her fiancé for their wedding, and Hurricane Margaret is brewing and Key West is in it’s path.

Lucy Burdette has filled these pages full. What a fantastic story!

All our favorite characters are back and Key West is full of tourists too. I absolutely love Miss Gloria. She is over 80 and Hayley has a hard time keeping up with her.  Hayley and Bransford’s romance has some bumps and there is some trouble at Key Zest, I really enjoyed all the dialogue. The characters continue to grow and even after 7 stories they are fresh and interesting. I would love to be friends with all of them.

The subplots entwine so comfortably with the main plot. Don’t interpret that to mean there is not excitement because there is plenty of that. I couldn’t believe how quickly I flew through this book. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. It was after midnight and I kept telling myself just one more chapter, just one more chapter, and soon I was to the recipes.

Don’t miss this one! Pack your virtual bags and head to Key West and enjoy!! Be sure to send me a postcard (comment) telling me all about your trip!!

Lucy Burdette is my Special Guest today!
Her new book, Fatal Reservations was released yesterday!

LUCY BURDETTE: Pop quiz cozy readers! What’s the most important question for a writer to ask when she starts a new book?

I’ll pause for a minute while you mull things over…

Okay, time’s up. If you said: Why is that nutty amateur sleuth involved in yet one more murder investigation?…you get an A+ for the day! Anyway, that’s where I usually begin. Hayley Snow, the food critic character in the Key West mysteries, has no earthly reason to be solving crimes. Unless of course someone she cares about deeply is involved. And unless they beg for her help…or demonstrate how deeply mired they are in trouble so that good-hearted Hayley can’t help but step up.

Lorenzo with Trimmings

Lorenzo with Trimmings

As I began to write Fatal Reservations, that’s exactly the question I asked. And the answer came from a character who’s appeared in each book and who has become more and more important to Hayley, Lorenzo the tarot card reader. Lorenzo made his debut in the Key West series with AN APPETITE FOR MURDER. While writing that first book, I’d seen a tarot card reader on Mallory Square among the throng of street performers, and knew he belonged in the story. I imagined my protagonist Hayley Snow taking her mother’s lead, preferring a reading to a psychotherapy session. I had no idea how important Lorenzo would become. And how he’d also become a friend, and a muse.

Fatal ReservationsIn FATAL RESERVATIONS, he moves from being a sidekick to the main focus of the mystery. Usually mild-mannered and calm, in the way of a man who can see into the future, Lorenzo is attacked in a City Commission meeting and later accused of murder when one of the other street performers from the Mallory Square sunset celebration is found dead. Rather than stay and face the music, he disappears, leaving Hayley to take care of his new kitten and save him from a future of reading cards in the Florida State Penitentiary.

About FATAL RESERVATIONS: Food critic Hayley Snow sets aside her knife and fork when her dear friend Lorenzo the tarot card reader is accused of murdering his flaming-fork-juggling nemesis. If Lorenzo could read his own cards, he might draw The Hanged Man. He can only hope that Hayley draws Justice as she tries to clear him of murder.

“This strong series continues a unique blend of island mayhem and sparkling characters surrounding a layered mystery.”— Booklist

About Lucy: Lucy Burdette (aka Roberta Isleib) is the author of 14 mysteries, including FATAL RESERVATIONS the sixth in the Key West series featuring food critic Hayley Snow. Her books and stories have been short-listed for Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity awards. She’s a past president of Sisters in Crime. Like her food critic character in the Key West series, she is passionate about food.

In the latest Key West Food Critic mystery, Hayley Snow’s beat is reviewing restaurants for Key Zest magazine. But she sets aside her knife and fork when a dear friend is accused of murder…

Hayley Snow looks forward to reviewing For Goodness Sake, a new floating restaurant that promises a fresh take on Japanese delicacies like flambéed grouper with locally sourced seaweed. But nearby land-based restaurateurs would rather see their buoyant competition sink.Sent to a City Commission meeting to cover the controversy, Hayley witnesses another uproar. The quirky performers of the daily Sunset Celebration are struggling to hold onto their performance space. The fight for Mallory Square has renewed old rivalries between Hayley’s Tarot-card reading friend Lorenzo and a flaming-fork-juggling nemesis, Bart Frontgate—but things take a deadly turn when Bart is found murdered.

If Lorenzo could read his own cards, he might draw The Hanged Man. He can only hope that Hayley draws Justice as she tries to clear him of murder…

INCLUDES RECIPES

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Hayley, Miss Gloria, Lorenzo and all the other characters we have grown to love are back in this 6th installment of the Key West Food Critic Mysteries.

This time Lorenzo lands in the soup when one of the performers from the Sunset Celebration is murdered. Seems they were not the best of friends. There is also a bit of a shake up at Key Zest as Palamina tries to put her own touches into both the office and the e-zine. Miss Gloria becomes a tour guide at the cemetery, there is a thief police are trying to catch and a new floating restaurant has many locals all in a tizzy. There is so much packed into 320 pages and it all flows together perfectly.

Lucy Burdette writes a story that not only includes a mystery or two but shines a beautiful light on Key West and its delicious food. The author’s passion for food is clear with all the yummy descriptions sprinkled throughout the book. Yes, she does include recipes too.

Friendship also is a key theme. Hayley will do anything for her friends. She does her best to keep them safe and puts herself in peril to find the truth when one of them is wrongly accused. Her romantic life has been a little rocky but this time the author took the step in that department I was hoping and praying she would take.

What more can I say, I loved this story. Burdette has served up another delightful feast of mayhem and mystery for us readers to enjoy. I really can’t wait for my next escape to Key West with Hayley and all her friends.

special guest blue

I am so happy to welcome Lucy Burdette here today.

“One cat just leads to another. . . . The place is so damned big it doesn’t really seem as though there were many cats until you see them all moving like a mass migration at feeding time. . . .” Ernest Hemingway

LucyBMileZeroI’m so pleased to be invited to post today on Dollycas’s blog in celebration of Murder With Ganache-the fourth book in my Key West foodie mystery series. Following along with the theme of “escapes,” I thought I’d chat about my idea of a perfect escape on this island.

murder with ganacheKey West, where I live most of the year and where my food critic series takes place, is a busy, lively town, chock full of tourists, and artists, and homeless folks, and people yearning to dodge a dreary winter. Oh yes, it can be crowded and noisy. But there are several spots visit when I need a little peace to unwind.

Hemingways+studioOne of these special places is the estate where Ernest Hemingway lived from 1931-1939. It’s a gorgeous, private piece of land, including a wonderful old home, the attached studio that housed Hemingway’s office, and an amazing pool with tropical gardens. One of the most-loved features of the property is the colony of cats who live on the premises, allegedly descendants of Hemingway’s felines.

When I met a woman who worked as one of the cat caretakers at the Hemingway House and began to learn more about the cats, I knew I’d want to use this place in my next book. Here’s how my main character Hayley describes it in Murder With Ganache:

Rudy+ValentinoIt’s almost impossible to enter the grounds inside the wall surrounding Hemingway’s house without feeling your blood pressure drop a few points. The house is gorgeous–a two story white structure with tall arched windows flanked by lemon-colored shutters and porches that wrap all the way around both floors. And the landscape is green and tropical, a haven for the fifty plus glossy, polydactyl felines that make their home here. My favorite vacillated between Rudy Valentino, a yellow tiger, and Duke Ellington, a gray striper who spent his afternoons stretched along a railing near the entrance so visitors could admire him. Evinrude hated it when I came home smelling of Hemingway cats, turning his nose and whiskers up at my feeble explanations.

DukeGanacheIf you look carefully at this photo of the new book (shown here with one of Hayley’s favorite cats, Duke Ellington), you’ll see that the Hemingway House made the cover! In Murder With Ganache, Hayley’s best friend Connie is getting married and all of Hayley’s family has come to help her celebrate. That includes her father, stepmother, mother, mother’s boyfriend, and her grumpy teenage stepbrother. Juggling the personalities and making sure everyone gets enough of what they need–let’s just say Hayley’s got a very full plate.

This book may be about Hemingway cats, and cupcakes, and wedding angst, and a murder mystery, but in the end, it’s also about finding and embracing family in whatever form they come. I hope you’ll settle in and enjoy a few hours of tropical escape–but fix yourself a snack first–you’re going to need it!

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Oh I would love to be in Key West right now instead freezing here in Wisconsin. Thanks to Lucy Burdette I was able to have a mini escape there. She really has outdone herself with this installment.

Hayley is a super strong character that just jumps off the page but really struck me with this story was the interaction between her mom and step-mom. The usual angst was there of her mom being jealous of the relationship Hayley has with her step-mom but the way a tragedy brings these women together just warmed my heart. In this day and age it is sometimes hard for divorced couples to put their children first whether the children are 2, 15, or 30. I was really happy to see the two sides of the family come together.

The story had a wonderful mystery and plenty of twists in both the main plot and the subplot. There were a lot of characters in this story but it was very easy to follow. I missed the tarot card reader that was prevalent in the previous books. We had a glimpse of him but not the usual Hayley visits.

Lucy Burdette is a great cozy author. I look forward to my visits to Key West. I can’t wait for my next trip.

Hayley Snow loves her job as the food critic for Key Zest magazine, tasting the offerings from Key West’s most innovative restaurants. She’d rate her life four stars, until she’s forced into the spotlight…and another murder investigation.

Hayley’s boss has volunteered her to be a judge for the Key West Topped Chef contest hoping to score some extra publicity for his magazine.  Hayley is both nervous and excited until she realizes one of the other judges is Sam Rizzoli. She just slammed his restaurant in her very first negative review.

When Rizzoli ends up dead speculation is one of his business rivals is responsible but Hayley has a feeling maybe someone is taking the chef contest a little too seriously. Hayley sees the police are not following the right leads so she decides it is up to her to serve up the actual killer.

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Lucy Burdette has me in love with Key West. Life on a boat in nice sunny Florida eating her way through all the delightful cuisine the area has to offer. Hayley better watch out I want to steal her job!

Burdette is such a strong writer and creates really lively characters and puts them in spectacular situations. The plots are tight and the twists are plenty.

The murder takes us from the docks to the inner workings of a reality tv show and even into the world of drag queens. I absolutely loved it. The new characters turned the story on its ear while they recurring characters continue to steal out hearts. Hayley’s mom even appears in Key West via Skype and Gloria becomes Hayley’s sidekick in the investigation..

A new character to this story is someone returning to Key West. She has disrupted Hayley’s life with her return and I am very interested to see how she effects it in future installments. Maybe a new direction is just what Hayley needs.

Add this one to your Summer Reading Lists! An impressive read that will tickle all of your senses. There are recipes included too!! so you can actually tickle your taste buds!!

Death in Four Courses (Key West Food Critic Mystery, #2)

Hayley Snow is the new food critic for Key Zest magazine. The annual Key West literary conference is featuring food writing this year. This is bringing all the famous food writers from across the country to Key West. Hayley is excited to be attending the conference and has asked her mom to join her. They are both such “foodies”.

Superstar food critic Jonah Barrows is the keynote speaker. Hayley hopes to glean some knowledge to make her reviews more modern and cutting edge. But his address is like nothing she or any other attendee or speaker had imagined. He has recently released his memoir and has included many secrets that have many of his colleagues up in arms and in his speech he promises many more secrets will be revealed. He has decided honesty at all costs in his new mantra.

When Jonah is found dead the suspects are many and Hayley is right in the middle of the action. She needs to grill everyone involved and find out who had the biggest beef with Jonah. She has to do it carefully or she could be the one getting burned.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I love this amateur sleuth! In my review of the first book of the series, An Appetite For Murder, I gushed that I wanted to be this character. Well that feeling has grown with this next installment. It is even better than the last.

Lucy Burdette takes us on a trip to Key West from the seat of out comfy chairs. She has created wonderful characters in an very engaging mystery that kept me guessing whodunit until the end.

My favorite character was Hayley’s mom. The apple did not fall far from the tree there. We can see clearly where Hayley gets her spunk and drive. The also both love food. I had no trouble at all picturing her mom cruising around Key West on that little pink scooter.

The topic of reviews whether they be for food or books have a lot in common and this installment makes me want to continue to make my reviews better and better. I honestly felt for Hayley when she was “scooped” by another critic from a large newspaper. Reviewers work hard to keep their thoughts original, meaningful and informative. The feeling is awful when you go to post your review around the blogosphere and see other reviewers used the exact same words you did to express their feelings about the book. Sometimes it means a major rewrite in a hurry. Thankfully though most book reviews don’t add to your waistline the way food reviews do 🙂 o.k. some do but darn I try hard to stay away from cookies, cupcakes and Hot Fudge Pie. Yes, there is a super easy recipe for Hot Fudge Pie in the back of this book! Who knew reading could be so delicious

There is no question that this story deserves 5 stars! I am just sad that we have to wait until May for our next Key West adventure!!

Welcome to Cozy Wednesday!

I saw the cover of Lucy’s An Appetite For Murder: A Key West Food Critic Mystery and knew I was going to love it. The idea of escaping to Key West during a cold Wisconsin winter sounded like a grand idea. Plus the cat on the cover resembles my Sherlock 🙂

I was so excited that Lucy agreed to be a guest here. I had read her other series and enjoyed them so much. I am so happy she is back with a new series and here today to tell us a little bit about it.

Hi Lucy!

Many thanks to Lori for inviting me to talk about my brand new Key West food critic mystery, An Appetite For Murder, written by Lucy Burdette (formerly known as Roberta Isleib.) I’m truly thrilled to be joining the ranks of other culinary mystery writers, including the renowned Diane Mott Davidson. (I have to brag a little–her blurb is on the front cover of my new book!) So I thought it would be fun to talk a little about food, glorious food, as they sang in Oliver!

This is the launch of my third mystery series, but the first one focused on food. (Although any readers of the advice column mysteries will remember that the main character, Dr. Rebecca Butterman, was an excellent cook.) It’s such a pleasure to write about things I love–and food is certainly one of them. I love to eat, to read about new recipes, to cook, to eat out in restaurants, to read about food in both memoirs and fiction. This series has given me license to do all that with a vengeance! My husband likes to tease that “Isleib” means “is stomach” in German. His other fictionalized translation for my family name is “large lunch followed by a restful nap.” No telling what he’ll make up for Burdette…

Anyway, I don’t think I’d like to be a food critic in real life–when I go out to eat, I like to choose what I feel like eating, not what I think other folks want to hear about. And there are places where I’d draw lines that my character Hayley Snow, cannot. For instance, tentacles. Raw fish and meat. Slimy things. Like that:). That said, all the restaurants in the book really exist in Key West and I’ve had wonderful meals in each of them. The only fictionalized establishment is the one Hayley visits in Miami Beach. I suppose if she’s going to start writing bad reviews or if someone is actually poisoned in a future book in a restaurant, I’ll have to do more inventing.

One of the first readers of An Appetite For Murder commented on the way I have chosen to lead off each of the chapters with a quote about food, chefs, or eating. Finding the quotes was so, so much fun. I started with more standard citations that would be familiar to many people, for example Miss Piggy’s famous “don’t eat more than you can lift.” But then the more I read, the more possibilities I found so I could tailor the quote to fit the action and the characters in each chapter–foreshadow what’s to come in many cases. And I came across gems like this one from Dwight Garner: “It is possible to imagine him having a small meal of minor critics for breakfast, as if they were kippers…

I so hope you all enjoy An Appetite For Murder –would love to hear your feedback!

Haley Snow leaves New Jersey to follow the man of her dreams to Key West, Florida. Things don’t go as planned when Hayley learns she’s not the only woman in his life. She is determined to stay in Key West and since her entire life has revolved around food, cooking it, eating it, and writing about it, she decides to apply to be the food critic for a brand new magazine. Sounds good until Hayley learns her new boss would be the other woman in her ex-boyfriend’s life. Things get crazy when the police show up at her door to question her about a murder. The other woman is dead and Haley’s career as a food critic could be over before it has even begun.

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Key West – Paradise – The perfect setting!! for mystery and mayhem!!!

Lucy Burdette weaves us through the streets of this small island, a popular tourist spot, and a place loved by both Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams. Key West’s culinary influences and offerings are as diverse as its population. Hayley has a variety of eateries to critique.

I have absolutely fallen for this character. I want to be this character. Even with the suspicion of being a murderer. She lives in a beautiful place, has wonderful friends and even lives on a boat. Her days are filled with eating yummy food, visits with chefs, a cat herder, a tarot card reader and did I mention she lives on a boat!

The mystery is divine, it is perfectly paced and the ending is a surprise. I have an appetite for much more from Lucy Burnette and the awesome life of Hayley Snow. This is very delicious debut of what will definitely be a delectable series.
